oybbk is the potential monster low for the 30th a wet and windy one? We should be driving that day but I can alter plans for terrible weather.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/12/2015 21:54

meglet, dont alter yet. I'm hopeful that it will swing up to the west of us, which would mostly bring rain. However if it comes more eastwards its a bit of a worry.

SNOW!!!!Xmas Grin......very strange, big proper snow flakes mixed in with heavy rain for a while (West Fife near the sea ).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/12/2015 23:20

morning all, Happy Christmas.
Keep your travel plans flexible on the 30th. Dont cancel, things may well change again! but could be a bit rough for Irish sea travel.

East Fife actually.....got my east and west muddled up...
Looked at the GFS for the next week. Maybe a bit windy Xmas Shock

Merry Christmas from a windy and rainy NW, Kitten! (But isn't the rain always persistent around Manchester Xmas Grin?!)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/12/2015 16:43

pretty much Xmas Grin

We're in Canada.

Gorgeous day here, plus six degrees, very sunny. Took DS for a long walk and toddle around outside, nice rosy cheeks when we got back. Bit of snow on the ground, not much. Forecast to be cold next week though, minus ten etc.

kippersmum · 25/12/2015 21:04

OYBBK Happy Christmas to you & your family, I hope you had a lovely day.

Thank you so much for the warning about Irish Sea travel. Not a mention in our local met office forecast & I have family traveling that day.

Once again your forecasts have been very useful :)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/12/2015 21:07

you are welcome kippersmum :)

met office have early warnings out - they arent sure whether it will be tues or weds at the moment, which is reflected in the models.

and actually in the latest gfs its both days as one low pressure after another barrels in affecting the western side of the uk.

GloriaSmud · 25/12/2015 22:46

Might be signs of it turning colder going into the New Year (they're getting very excited again on the netweather forum about it!)
A rather late-in-the-day Merry Christmas to everyone Xmas Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2015 08:58

Think their optimism maybe letting them get carried away! Colder for sure, but cold enough for snow? not sure at the moment, it looks pretty tenuous.

29th/30th still problematic. Instead of the giant monster low, there are two smaller, but nevertheless pretty active lows. One I think towards the evening on the 29th, theough the night and hot on the heels of it a second low. Mostly affecting the west, but windy everywhere.

An awful lot more rain for Cumbria yet to come.

A red 'take action' warning for the area.
What a crappy way to end the year Sad

nannynick · 26/12/2015 09:10

Had a little snow last night, enough for a drunk snowman. Turned to rain whilst building so won't stand up.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2015 10:49

just saw that. Its really unusual for a red to be issued for rain.

Ditsy4 · 26/12/2015 13:45

On flood alert red and Amber. We live on hill so lucky but exits from village flooding so maybe cut off again like 5/6 th December. Watching weather for DS1 house was only one street away last time.
Reading some threads on here about presents make me mad. I know a family who lost their whole house weeks ago that has to be their worst Christmas! Some people need a reality check! People in Glennridding, Appleby and other areas been flooded three times and now on red or Amber alert.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2015 15:59

ditsy, you are absolutely right to be angry, on many levels. People are just so wrapped up in the fantasy that they can't get things into perspective. I also think that much much more needs to be done in your area to help.

OublietteBravo · 26/12/2015 16:05

It looks really wet in the West of West Yorkshire. My FB feed is full of pictures of floodwater (Sowerby Bridge, Haworth, Bingley). I've never seen so much water (and I lived in that area for over 20 years).

hollinhurst84 · 26/12/2015 16:19

Lancashire is bad Sad
My friends house under about 5ft of water as the reservoir has burst its banks

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2015 16:23

Ive never heard of things being this bad either.

hollin - your poor poor friend. Which reservoir? Every single river in Lancashire has exceeded record levels acording to the EA.
