The low down on the hot weather.

So summer seems to be upon us :) A little rain for some today to get through.

Tuesday sees the first real heat, with temps in the mid 20s for many in England and Wales away from the coast. I think some coastal areas could be disappointing because of relatively cool sea temps. A very warm night. Scotland ranges from high teens to low 20s.

Wednesday - highs in the high 20's low 30s for much of England and Wales (away from some coasts), Mid 20s for central and much of western Scotland. Another very warm night.
An interesting feature is the strong winds, gusting to around 30mph. With fairly lowish humdity, its going to feel quite Morrocan I think!

Thursday is a little cooler, with some heavy showers and perhaps thunderstorms.

Friday and Saturday heat up again, but the real heat doesnt at the moment look to extend quite so far north. Its quite a way ahead though and its not a nice stable high, which is easy to predict but instead a plume of hot air, with some lows to our west, which makes for quite an unstable weather system. (hence the rapid change in fortunes we've had this week) so I'm not going to hazard even a vague forecast beyond then!

distant lightning and the rain is just starting. However, it is very gentle at present.

Just had some very interesting lightning
Rapid flashes over the very top of the building. No rain or thunder. Only ever seen electrical storms abroad.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/07/2015 23:46

cool!

Rain now but lightning major. Have checked torch is okay!

IrenetheQuaint · 04/07/2015 00:12

Amazing storm over East London! One of the heaviest I've ever seen in England with hail and lots of simultaneous thunder and lightning.

NickAngel · 04/07/2015 01:36

Thunder and lightening here. Finally.

NickAngel · 04/07/2015 01:37

Cambs- sorry

GozerTheGozerian · 04/07/2015 02:05

Wow - huge storm over Warwickshire. Not seen so much lightning for years. I was exhausted tonight too and can't stop looking out of the window like a giddy child!

NickAngel · 04/07/2015 02:14

Incredible storm here. Been going for nearly an hour. So much rain...

GloriaSmud · 04/07/2015 02:16

Storm started here (Leicester) about 10 minutes ago and I seem to be the only one that's up at the moment! Not so much thunder (that seems to be building up though) but lots of rain and some amazing lightning.

GloriaSmud · 04/07/2015 02:26

And DD2 is up (and she's the one that usually sleeps through these things!) Main storm seems to have passed for the moment.

Kampeki · 04/07/2015 02:39

Fuck! I've never been scared of a storm before but...fuck!!!

It seems to have moved away from us now, but I have never seen lightening that bright or heard thunder so loud! I usually like a good storm, but actually, I didn't like this one!

digerd · 04/07/2015 07:05

SE.
Think it began around midnight - dog told me something was about to happen.
I shut the window and closed the curtains but still saw continuous zig zagging lightning which seemed odd.
The occasional and short pelting down shower but not really much loud thunder.
I soon fell back to sleep with quivering dog in my arms
Not much rain in my pot saucers this morning.

Wilted rose blooms are now soggy and shrivelled.
Lots of dead heading and raking up to do when the weather is bearable.

VivaLeBeaver · 04/07/2015 07:13

There was a massive thunderstorm midnight last night and still going on when I woke at 6am. Lake District.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/07/2015 07:41

ours was short lived, movie style clap of thunder and short burst of rain and that was it.

mankyscotslass · 04/07/2015 07:45

We had two storms - the first about 22:45, loud and lots of lightning, then again at 2am. Lots of rain with the second one, but the kids slept through them both.

Neither storm was as severe as the Wednesday night one, but were still powerful and impressive. I'm going to look at the local news now to see what reports there are.

dementedma · 04/07/2015 08:40

Absolutely pissing down with rain here in central Scotland and has been for a while...Sad

GloriaSmud · 04/07/2015 09:06

Storm lasted about an hour here and then moved away. After an overcast start, the sun's breaking through but it's humid again ~ 20C.

43cupsoftea · 04/07/2015 09:07

Tremendous storm here in Nottm. Not sure of the time, 2-3ish I think. Sheet lighting and forked lightening, torrential rain. Then a lull, then another one, was a bit more sleepy by then so only aware of lots of flashes and loud thunder. The lawn is looking nice and green this morning Grin

HuevosRancheros · 04/07/2015 09:47

Another Nottingham poster here - storm woke me at 2.30am, so much lightning!! Was counting waiting for the thunder clap and we had more flashes before the thunder came.

Sun just broken through, going to be a sticky one again I think.

digerd · 04/07/2015 11:02

SE.

Having a moan againBlush.
Went out with the dog at 7.50 and the bit of rain produced was ineffectual ( "much adoabout nothing" came to mind.
And instead of the storm clearing the air it was uncomfortably humid/steamy.
Yesterday was nice and fresh, so the storm just made it worse.
Whine overGrin

butterfly133 · 04/07/2015 11:03

Humidity high again today
Really hoping tomorrow will cool down

Dawndonnaagain · 04/07/2015 11:06
