So summer seems to be upon us :) A little rain for some today to get through.

Tuesday sees the first real heat, with temps in the mid 20s for many in England and Wales away from the coast. I think some coastal areas could be disappointing because of relatively cool sea temps. A very warm night. Scotland ranges from high teens to low 20s.

Wednesday - highs in the high 20's low 30s for much of England and Wales (away from some coasts), Mid 20s for central and much of western Scotland. Another very warm night.
An interesting feature is the strong winds, gusting to around 30mph. With fairly lowish humdity, its going to feel quite Morrocan I think!

Thursday is a little cooler, with some heavy showers and perhaps thunderstorms.

Friday and Saturday heat up again, but the real heat doesnt at the moment look to extend quite so far north. Its quite a way ahead though and its not a nice stable high, which is easy to predict but instead a plume of hot air, with some lows to our west, which makes for quite an unstable weather system. (hence the rapid change in fortunes we've had this week) so I'm not going to hazard even a vague forecast beyond then!

OYBBK - is it really going to rain and be 12 degrees in the Lake district all next week like the forcasts are showing?

NickAngel · 02/07/2015 12:32

Light rain here now. Cloudy and muggy. No storm though. South.

butterfly133 · 02/07/2015 12:49

no sign of rain here at all. Makes me think 28 for Saturday is probably right.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/07/2015 15:01

more severe storms possible tomorrow

Viva, more like 15C-20C I think, going by todays gfs.

butterfly, I think that sounds about right.

Next week, away from western coasts it looks pleasantly warm, though the hot air is so close, that it could quite easily become hot again instead for some south and eastern parts.

I hear thunder is coming from you oybbk?!

butterfly133 · 02/07/2015 16:41

oybbk - as clearly you are the guru here, I wonder if I can ask what you think of the long term forecast? When I look at accuweather for my postcode, it looks like another very hot spell next week.

I can do some more heatproofing in the flat - which is phenomenally hot - but I don't know whether to spend the money at the moment.

digerd · 02/07/2015 17:01

29 degrees atm in SE.
Yesterday afternoon was equatorial/sweltering and 34.8 at 3pm in shade.
Indoors was 28 in bedroom - left curtains and window open and reduced to 25 in the night with a light cooling westerly breeze.

My climbing roses have shrivelled up and wilted - just like me Grin

Bookaboo · 02/07/2015 17:06

Co. Durham area here in the north east. We seemed to bear the brunt of the weather yesterday, with 3 colossal thunderstorms - one about 15.30, another at 2130, then about 0030. 2 houses had their roofs destroyed by lightning strikes and a school was struck - luckily just after home time.

pinkkoala · 02/07/2015 18:34

Any ideas what Northampton is looking like for wet and stormy weather, I really don't want either, and dd hates thunder and lightning.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/07/2015 21:19

butterfly, in the Se and EA it might be pretty hot to start with but it does look like it may well cool again mid week.

Bookaboo, the storms were certainly mighty! They formed quite a tight train too.

Pinkkoala, the models are rather split as to where might be hit at present and so I can't say. It will be overnight tomorrow that any activity takes place. It could be pretty potent I think.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/07/2015 21:20

digerd my garden too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/07/2015 06:43

Im still keeping an eye on tonights storms. One model forecasts severe storms for the Sw moving north still. The other shows more widespread storms across the south moving north.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/07/2015 12:05

estofex have issued a level 1 for us for storms.

The models are still stupidly split! So you may get severe storms, you may get nothing. argh!
If the storms do develop then they could be torrential, again with large hail

I've been following netweather's storm discussion here and they've been kind of twiddling their thumbs this morning over when/where/if there are going to be storms!

butterfly133 · 03/07/2015 15:06

OYBBK - I don't think we will get any if they also think it will be 28 here tomorrow.

I would love a really good storm though - mostly because I haven't seen one for ages!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/07/2015 16:28

even experts I really trust have no clue - but don't let tomorrows forecast temperature guide your thoughts - its not an old fashioned cold front driving these predicted storms but rather instability within the plume of hot air.

SE.

Certainly fresher air today, so assume the breeze is already coming from the Atlantic. Sun still very hot though but at least dog and I made our long walk at 2pm after having to give it a miss these last few days.

I,m fed up with having my face suffocated with sun cream making me feel hotter than ever. Has to be done , though so musn't complain!Blush
Noticed my skin on my cheeks and jowels was looking a bit on the leathery side despite me wearing a baseball capSad

VivaLeBeaver · 03/07/2015 17:14

I'm just so depressed that it's forecast rain every day in the lakes for the next seven days. Just as I arrive for a week's camping and walking.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/07/2015 20:49

So we are on storm watch now!

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/07/2015 20:52

Viva, I think there will be a reasonable amount of dry weather too.

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 03/07/2015 20:56

Hope so. I can cope with showers. Today has been gorgeous.

Id like a nice night time thunder storm as well.

GloriaSmud · 03/07/2015 21:27

Joining in the MN StormWatch!
We've just had a short shower of 'chubby' raindrops. It's overcast (but clouds don't really look that thundery though), temperature's dropping, wind's got up as has the humidity ~ 35% at 3.30pm, 80% now.

GloriaSmud · 03/07/2015 21:29

Several lightning strikes showing up over Wales way and some showers showing up here.
They're getting very excited over on the Netweather forum Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/07/2015 23:15

the storm developing over Dorset looks interesting. Watch out in a line heading NNE.
