So summer seems to be upon us :) A little rain for some today to get through.

Tuesday sees the first real heat, with temps in the mid 20s for many in England and Wales away from the coast. I think some coastal areas could be disappointing because of relatively cool sea temps. A very warm night. Scotland ranges from high teens to low 20s.

Wednesday - highs in the high 20's low 30s for much of England and Wales (away from some coasts), Mid 20s for central and much of western Scotland. Another very warm night.
An interesting feature is the strong winds, gusting to around 30mph. With fairly lowish humdity, its going to feel quite Morrocan I think!

Thursday is a little cooler, with some heavy showers and perhaps thunderstorms.

Friday and Saturday heat up again, but the real heat doesnt at the moment look to extend quite so far north. Its quite a way ahead though and its not a nice stable high, which is easy to predict but instead a plume of hot air, with some lows to our west, which makes for quite an unstable weather system. (hence the rapid change in fortunes we've had this week) so I'm not going to hazard even a vague forecast beyond then!

It's really grey here now and very humid. But all sign of rain for our post code has gone till tomorrow on the apps I have.

GloriaSmud · 01/07/2015 16:18

Really uncomfortable school run this afternoon. Not surprisingly, the children were out early and everyone disappeared off home quickly!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/07/2015 17:00

Saturday should be distinctly cooler :)

Lesson of the day. Cycling in 34C is a Bad Idea.

GloriaSmud · 01/07/2015 17:45

Oh dear, OYBBK. One of those situations where the thought 'this was a Bad Idea' usually happens when you're half way there and you've still got to cycle back!

The Metoffice has confirmed that it's been the hottest July day ever.

wankerchief · 01/07/2015 17:53

It's 32c here in Reading.
the glacial air con at my four year old nursery was just lovely, I stayed and did reading with them just so I didn't have to go back Into the hotGrin

AuntieStella · 01/07/2015 18:20

I've just seen on the BBC News that temperatures have been high in SW London. To the extent that it was 4degrees cooler inside the tropical house at Kew than it was outdoors.

SpottyTeacakes · 01/07/2015 18:40

Oybbk (hello long time no speak Smile) am I going to get rain tomorrow?! We wanted to go to the play farm but it will be crap if it's wet!

SideOrderofChips · 01/07/2015 19:43

Second day of hell here in Jersey.

I am dying.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/07/2015 19:48

Pretty cool that the record has been broken on the 1st July.

Spotty. I think anywhere south of Yorkshire could see rain in the morning. Later on there could be rain further north.

SpottyTeacakes · 01/07/2015 19:54

Hmm ok thanks. Still not sure what to do Grin suppose it won't be so fun if it's all wet

Hassled · 01/07/2015 19:57

We've had a nice breeze here (Norfolk), so while it's hot as hell it hasn't seemed too bad at all. It's positively pleasant, in fact.

SpottyTeacakes · 01/07/2015 20:29

The wind is picking up here....maybe we should peg our gazebo down

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/07/2015 21:42

rather impressive supercell near Blackpool(to the se of it) at present.

butterfly133 · 01/07/2015 22:30

Is that the weather equivalent of the Duracell bunny?

mankyscotslass · 01/07/2015 22:39

Really impressive storm here. Started about 20 minutes ago with thunder and lightning. The lightning has been pretty much constant and now we have just started with heavy rain too. Grin Grin

Perihelion · 02/07/2015 00:01

It cooled down in Edinburgh with an east wind then some showers. Think it got to about 20C and then down to 16C for work this evening. Only now getting a few lighting strikes in the Firth of Forth.
Can't imagine being in London today.....that's far too hotShock

BlackeyedSusan · 02/07/2015 01:06

it is still really hot and muggy here in the w mids. was still over thirty in the kitchen at 9pm.

fatsatsuma · 02/07/2015 06:35

OYBBK the weekend looks a lot cooler but the Met Office longer range forecast seems to imply that the weather will continue to be good in the south in the next week or two. What do you reckon?

mankyscotslass · 02/07/2015 07:14

The storm here lasted till about 11pm before rumbling off to the NE.

The lightning was impressive and the rain torrential .

Not much cooler now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/07/2015 08:39

As forecast, there were some severe storms last night, with very large hail. northern echo

Any reports from mumsnetters?

OP posts:
StormyBrid · 02/07/2015 09:40

Impressive storm in Manchester last night, according to my facebook feed.

OYBBK, any guesses as to how nice a day it'll be on Monday? We're supposed to be going to the seaside (Yorkshire coast).

Perihelion · 02/07/2015 09:47

Posted too soon about the lightning last night. Had his got into bed at about 12.30 when I heard a distant rumble. Then about an hour of lightning, at a strike rate of 1 or 2 a minute. Was so good we woke DD to watch ( holidays have started here ).Nothing directly over Edinburgh, but loads to the South, East and North.
Was great watching at the same time as looking at lightning.org Smile

GloriaSmud · 02/07/2015 09:58

Nothing here in the way of storms (netweather have a report here on last night's storms ~ scroll down a little and check out the lightning strike totals Shock)
I think last night was one of the most uncomfortable nights I've ever had ~ was still 28C when I went to bed at 11pm. 'Tis a much more comfortable 23.5C now but think we're in for storms/thundery rain later. There's a huge splodge of rain heading the UK's way in the English Channel at the moment and it looks like it could provide some proper torrential stuff.

(Reminder of livelightning and netweather's lightning detector in case of storms later.)

DidoTheDodo · 02/07/2015 10:12

It's cloudy here (rural Kent) and a bit cooler, but still muggy. I'd like a thunderstorm to clear the air, but was thinking of taking a picnic to Bodiam Castle. Mind you, a thunderstorm over Bodiam would be very impressive and I don't think I mind getting wet.

Yesterday my garden thermometer read 36 degrees. Melting...

butterfly133 · 02/07/2015 10:50

weather forecasts for my area are conflicting but one is now showing 28 and humid for Saturday. If I thought that was correct I'd be trying to rearrange, as I really can't do Tube in that humidity, I'd just pass out.
