Following on from the Boxing Day snow thread we have weather warnings from the met office for snow down part of the east coast and widespread ice. Around Northampton could also see some snow today. Take care over night and into tomorrow morning.

The theme of rather cold carries on through this week, especially away from western coasts. Some central areas could struggle to get above 0C even in the day time. Some sharp frosts. The next few days look dry and cold, with perhaps some freezing fog, especially over any snow fields. At the moment it looks like things might become milder through Thursday with rain moving in. GFS disagrees with this though and keeps things cold.

GFS then keeps teasing with a possibly dramatic return to school snow wise for some. Its a long way ahead but as ever I will keep you updated. However i may not be always able to answer specific questions due to real life so if you need to know urgently please check out the met office

Fyrefly ~ we're (as in Leicestershire) is forecast to have heavy snow later on.
I'm Grin bigtime at the thought of you flinging open the windows and shouting that at the sky but the neighbours would be all Confused and Hmm

Snowing and settling in Leicestershire

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 29/01/2015 13:12

thanks Gloria

BlackeyedSusan · 29/01/2015 13:12

big fluffy flaky sleety. not sure if settling...

... grass lightish green. falling and melting slowly. paths disappearing immediately or in max of five seconds.

it keeps slowing down which gives the stuff time to melt.

BlackeyedSusan · 29/01/2015 13:21

massive fluffy flakes, grass and a dusting in the cracks of the path and at the edge of the drive and on the roofs. however, as soon as it eases off it disappears again.

it is tormenting me.

Newbiecrafter · 29/01/2015 13:21

Biscuits, what a beautiful view from the back of your house. I love big sky like that. Must be amazing watching the weather coming in.

We,ve had a beautiful morning. Blue skies, a few fluffy clouds. Windy and cold but lovely.

No it's starting to cloud over all around, but blue sky overhead. The clouds are moving quite quickly.

I can't believe we're under the yellow warning now in the south east.

Are we supposed to be getting lots? We've had nothing so far. We're on the London surrey border.

Good luck everyone!
Xxx

Asifbymagic · 29/01/2015 13:26

It's getting sunnier. Still cold but blue sky.

Endler32 · 29/01/2015 13:27

We want snow in the south/South west Sad, any chances of us getting some anytime soon? We have had rain, sleet, hail and a few people have spotted a few flakes of snow ( not me ), hopefully it will get colder tonight and we might see a flake or two.

pigsinmud · 29/01/2015 13:37

Clouds rushing across the sky now - very dark clouds. The only problem is the temp is still 5.2!

pigsinmud · 29/01/2015 13:38

Met office forecast now says heavy rain at 2, sleet at 3 and heavy snow at 4 Confused

mankyscotslass · 29/01/2015 13:52

Grin Grin Grin Lots of snow. But I am working so can't enjoy it. It started falling at 8.15 and only stopped about 12. It's just showers now though.

The youngest dc primary school closed at lunchtime so DH has sorted them out, but eldest Manky is not going to be happy as his high school is open!

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 29/01/2015 13:55

Hurray! I'm back after a year of not being able to register. The heartbleed thingy did for me and mn wouldn't recognise my email address. Anyway,it is snowing heavily now in Leicestershire, after nothing at all. I felt the earthquake last night as we are near Oakham.I thought a car had hit the house,it was such a bang and then a lot of rumbling. It woke the DDS up,which didn't happen when we had 2 earthquakes last year.

GloriaSmud · 29/01/2015 13:57

Snow, we've had snow!
It started as rain but quickly turned to snow and has only been going 5 minutes but we've already got a cm covering. I think I just heard a rumble of thunder as well, temperature's plunged from 3.4C to 1.7C in about 10 minutes.

GloriaSmud · 29/01/2015 13:59

Yay, welcome back mirage!
Aw snow's stopped now and it's getting brighter.
