Following on from the Boxing Day snow thread we have weather warnings from the met office for snow down part of the east coast and widespread ice. Around Northampton could also see some snow today. Take care over night and into tomorrow morning.

The theme of rather cold carries on through this week, especially away from western coasts. Some central areas could struggle to get above 0C even in the day time. Some sharp frosts. The next few days look dry and cold, with perhaps some freezing fog, especially over any snow fields. At the moment it looks like things might become milder through Thursday with rain moving in. GFS disagrees with this though and keeps things cold.

GFS then keeps teasing with a possibly dramatic return to school snow wise for some. Its a long way ahead but as ever I will keep you updated. However i may not be always able to answer specific questions due to real life so if you need to know urgently please check out the met office

FyreFly · 28/01/2015 22:42

We just had an earthquake in Rutland... no snow yet though... Anyone want to trade?

magimedi · 28/01/2015 22:47

No snow here in East Sussex, which makes me very. very happy.

ouryve · 28/01/2015 22:52

Rather a lot of snow in Co Durham. Only been rid of last week's lot a few days. Willing to trade.

GloriaSmud · 28/01/2015 22:55

FyreFly - was it about 1/2 an hour ago? Thought I felt something here (western edge of Leicester) about then. And no, still no snow! Think if we get any, it'll be early tomorrow/during the rush hour.

FyreFly · 28/01/2015 23:53

About 10:25 it happened Gloria, so that was probably it :)

SNOW! Grin Grin Grin

Had some great sideyways snow earlier today walking the dogs and some more flurries, but nothing lying till this evening.

Would have taken DD for a midnight sledge, however that would have needed a car journey to get to a proper sledging slope.....and the drive home from work tonight was interesting enough. Some of the earlier snow that melted, has frozen so it's really icey. I think the snow will still be about for some after school snow sports tomorrow. I think we're getting more snow overnight, not sure as the internet's been fucked all day, so need to catch up. ( Didn't realise we had an amber warning )

Gloria you need to move North, or up a big hill, or both Wink

And I'd like an earthquake too, but you're no getting my snow.

SpottyTeacakes · 29/01/2015 05:44

My fb is showing signs of an earthquake last night in, umm, lancs? Or somewhere like that... I don't know anywhere North of London

SpottyTeacakes · 29/01/2015 05:53

Meglet it's gone!!

MixenLane · 29/01/2015 05:56

Have woken up to see that there's no lying snow here, but it is snowing lightly at the moment. Not enough to stick or do any damage currently but suspect there's more to come later.

JillJ72 · 29/01/2015 05:59

Earthquake was in Cottesmore (Nr Oakham, Rutland). Can't remember being aware of anything in N Bucks, but was prob fast asleep as well, and not sure if would be felt here.

Cold, clear, frosty but not a really hard frost because it's quite windy. Chance of snow v debatable - not holding my breath Grin

MooseyMoo · 29/01/2015 06:09

Only rain predicted today now, not even sleet. Gutted.

When it barely snowed couple of weeks ago, I got my DD to do a snow dance to make it fall faster and thicker. Surprisingly it did - her face was a picture!

GloriaSmud · 29/01/2015 06:36

Yes, it was about that time! (the earthquake) DD2 said she felt it too.

On the weather front, we've woken up to absolutely nothing. 'Tis cold enough (0.9C) though and think we're going to get something of a wintry nature at some time during today.

mankyscotslass · 29/01/2015 07:09

We just had a heavy snow shower, it's covered everything but isn't deep and has stopped now.

It looks like a thin carpet of snow. Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/01/2015 07:46

clear blue sky here this morning Hmm

hoping for some this afternoon.

Beautiful sunny morning here. Heavy snow was forecast for a time today , yesterday, but it's changed to just cloud now
So disappointed.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/01/2015 08:15

in fact, away from the SW it looks like most of the south and midlands could see sleet or snow showers later.

GerundTheBehemoth · 29/01/2015 08:19

We have light snow forecast from 3pm-7pm today, with a bit more overnight. So far this winter, though, all snow forecasts for here (NW Kent) have come to naught...

BlackeyedSusan · 29/01/2015 08:26

nothing.

MrsVamos · 29/01/2015 08:33

Hoping for more snow than sleet showers later. Smile

FelixFelix · 29/01/2015 08:56

Woke up to a thick covering here and it's just started again. Me and dd are hibernating today as play group is cancelled. The roads haven't been gritted and cars are sliding all over the place (it's extremely hilly round here) Confused

TheWoollybacksWife · 29/01/2015 09:08

We have had a snow shower Grin (Northants) unfortunately I was in the shower and missed it but DS was very excited GrinGrin
