Weather warnings part 3 - February storms.

Really hoped we wouldnt need another thread so soon.

Tomorrow we have one dangerous storm with winds potentially 90mph off welsh coasts, 80mph inland and hitting Ireland very hard too.

met office warnings for heavy rain (exactly where we dont need it but also hitting western scotland), snow, perhaps even down to lower ground at times over night even pretty far south and storm force winds. Also widespread gales across England.

Then friday night into Saturday we have another potentially damaging low. The models have really struggled with this one and it needs a careful eye keeping on it.

Because the winds look so bad tomorrow for some (enough in the amber areas for me to suggest that you consider whether your journey is essential), I'll be logging on around 7:15am to update. My biggest concern is western Wales in the afternoon. However the track may change as the storm develops so the amber warning area may shift. It is possible that the met office may issue some red warnings close to the morning.

Looking further on, although storms may track to their more usual position (north of scotland) as the month goes on, unfortunately the rain looks set to continue, with little in the way of respite.

Just lost 3 ridge tiles off extension roof. Great.

RedToothBrush · 12/02/2014 18:17

He's just called. He's about a mile and a half away now. There's another tree half blocking the road stuck in a bus shelter but he can get past. Seems like there are trees down everywhere round here. Its scary. I think I've only known one storm this bad in the last 10 years.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/02/2014 18:18

some slightly better news - the tuesday/wednesday storm has vanished from gfs again

He's home thank fuck!

kippersmum · 12/02/2014 18:22

LadyCelia, no boats last night & today & tonight, & looking unlikely for tomorrow morning. Your parents will be able to rebook the ferry no problem I would have thought.

bobbinogs · 12/02/2014 18:22

My London to preston train has been sent back to Nuneaton, we are sitting at the station......multiple overhead wires problems.....' No further services going north or south' I think everything's cancelled....oh we'll at least I don't have to worry about driving home from preston.....

threebats · 12/02/2014 18:25

My drive to get dc's went like this - a roof blown off a house, as in, the whole actual roof not just a few tiles and deposited in middle of main road. Road into Llanelli shut completely thanks to fallen trees and the M4 shut while trains are cancelled... Tree branches all over the place - arrive home to the fence between next door and I shedding its timber like its peeling paper off a ringbinder - have electric however so am making the dinner now while I can.
Stay safe all.

GladitsnotJustMe · 12/02/2014 18:26

Poor Milly!

Elec still on here in Flintshire coast, but it's still rough.

DP home, reported that our garage roof has gone.

Doggies wondering why they're not getting a walk tonight!

Local traffic report loads of roads closed locally due to trees down... !

starsandunicorns · 12/02/2014 18:30

TwllBach · 12/02/2014 18:31

I'm in North Wales and our school closed early. It's really scary! The bridges have been closed as well so we can't get off the island and there is a lot of power off in the town. Our lights are flickering, but not off at the moment.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/02/2014 18:32

RedToothBrush · 12/02/2014 18:33

Scary landing at Manchester airport with pictures.

Barton Bridge is closed now. (Just reported on BBC local news but not yet updated on their travel site)

M6 closed until 10pm. Apparently it was getting gusts of 69mph when they decided to close it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/02/2014 18:34

Going to eat my dinner (thanks dh) then I'll be back.

Wind getting up again in N Bucks. DH was in Essex today, saw numerous accidents. On way back through Beds/Bucks he saw a tree toppled onto a car transporter. He said "bloody windy" - takes a fair bit for him to comment....

JillJ72 · 12/02/2014 18:34

Lashing down..... Sounds like hail

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/02/2014 18:35

bobbinogs, I hope they can find you some accommodation.

OYBBK just wanted to say thank you for your postings

harbinger · 12/02/2014 18:40

I feel very selfish to ask about Friday and Saturday whilst so much is happening tonight. I am very worried about travelling from the South coast to the Midlands on Friday. I believe another storm is due on Friday night, is it safe to leave the house? (re wind speed)
Travelling on the motorways will be grim but does the M25 ever get shut due to flooding?

mankyscotslass · 12/02/2014 18:41

Police have called off the City match tonight, citing safety reasons.

flootshoot · 12/02/2014 18:43

harbinger I can't comment on the windspeed but I'm in the middle of all the flooding and about 1/2 mile from the M25. It's mostly raised here and there haven't been any problems. DH has driven on it every day with no issues.

bobbinogs · 12/02/2014 18:44

Yes I do too, I was up at 4.30 this morning to get to this bloody training thing.......we're all sat here like numptys at the moment....occasional announcements to,the effect of we can't go forward or backwards and we're not, sure what's happening.......but we're safe and I know my kids are safe at home so that's the main thing.....there are worse things than a night in Nuneaton! Keep safe everyone, it sounds scary out there

SpottyTeacakes · 12/02/2014 18:45

Poor you bobbin. I got stuck on a train once between stations. It was no fun at all
