I'm keeping a close eye on Tuesday-thursday (as well as this weekends storm). None of the models agree on timing/depth/positions of storms but, there is potential for a very significant wind storm - either for us or for france (or perhaps not at all)

I've just glanced at met-monkey and they mention a possible storm for the middle of next week.
I've also just taken a look at MagicSeaweed and they've got this WinterStorm animation, of all the storms that have come our way since the beginning of December.

JerseySpud · 07/02/2014 10:01

Theres something coming next week?

God can any of us take much more of this :O

GloriaSmud · 07/02/2014 10:13

Jersey, I know. It just seems to be going on and on at the moment.
I know we laugh at the Daily Express and their 'forecasting' but their website has some Shock storm footage here from Mousehole and Torquay.

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 07/02/2014 10:17

It's heartbreaking hearing the Somerset farmers saying how they had to send their cattle away, either to market, abattoir or temporary sitings because the water was waist height now and rising.

It's only 20 miles away from here and yet it seems like another country.

HesterShaw · 07/02/2014 11:24

That Express article makes me very angry. They're not thinking of the people, they're thinking of their own hyperbolic sensationalism. There will NOT be 75 ft waves "smashing into the shore". Those height waves are swells, out at sea. They don't have even the slightest idea about anything.

However it is a sobering wave forecast. 11.5m at at 20 seconds at its peak tomorrow. 20 seconds refers to the amount of time between one swell peak and another. The longer the wave period, the mote powerful the waves. It does look bad.

Sunny at the moment though. Maybe I'll get some washing dry.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/02/2014 11:36

It makes me very angry too. People are already frightened and devastated. It's inhumane to hype the storm further. Its bad enough as it is.

What an amazing morning, lovely walk on the beach in the sunshine, the dogs looked very confused, it was still very chilly though but now it is not only sunny but warm Smile I feel like taking a video or something and playing it on a loop as we lie in front of the halogen heater tomorrow.

Does anyone else have real trouble watching the videos of waves? I'm shouting in my head 'you idiots, it's not funny move away from the seafront' and yet I Can't. Stop. Watching. Wave porn, I admit it, I have a real problem with videos of extreme weather.

JerseySpud · 07/02/2014 13:38

I hate the daily express. People on my facebook were spamming the article and i had to keep saying that they are probably exagerating

LostInWales, indeed it was! How glorious to see the sun, and i actually managed to open my bathroom window without fear of it blowing away Shock...before the rain returned, still at least its not belting it down atm.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/02/2014 18:39

So the rain has returned here.

Watch out for the wind over night and into tomorrow, it could be pretty nasty.

BlackeyedSusan · 07/02/2014 18:54

no rain yet here in the west mids the clouds are just starting to come across the sky

SpottyTeacakes · 07/02/2014 19:00

Raining here too. Hoping for no power cut!

HesterShaw · 07/02/2014 19:13

I got some washing half dry today.
Cor.

Now it's very rainy again. I looked on the weather and the sea state is only "high". I saw a "phenomenal" off Ireland once Shock

LostInWales · 07/02/2014 19:35

Lovely today until the exact minute I walked out of the house to get DS3 from school where it pelted with hard cold rain until the exact second we made it back to the front door, at which point the sun came out again Hmm.

Jaded I was watching a video of a massive wave crashing inland on the BBC site that was obviously being filmed from the upstairs of a house, I was scared watching it!

At least football has been cancelled so I can have a large glass of wine not worry about getting the kit ready and get up early tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/02/2014 20:08

Yay Lost! And also Hester, small mercies.

I did like the sunshine today.

threebats · 07/02/2014 20:36

I saw the sun today and thought to myself - its like getting caught watching a peep show - here's your peep show sun, tomorrow you'll pay for it with a storm... Naughty sun worshipper...
It was indeed a lovely sunny day today in Wales, - shades out and on, seriously... Until about 4pm when it got cloudy and spat rain.
Everything I needed to do over the weekend that meant going outdoors has been condensed into an evening after college today - I am in from now until whenever this comes and goes. I caught the weather after the news while at reception in college and it said at midday tomorrow over Swansea to about Cardiff, 80mph winds and lashing rain. A lot of us were sceptical given we have had this warning out many times this winter and its all gone to Cornwall and Somerset - I said, the law of averages is not in our favour....
My gates are bolted. My bins packed off into shed which is bolted. Cats are in (got more cat litter) and I am waiting for Charlie to pay us a visit...

kippersmum · 07/02/2014 21:42

Hester, I live in the IOM, we are used to bad weather & rough seas but to see your post that the sea state was "only high" made me stop in my tracks. We have seen Phenomenal once and Very High a couple of times. I thought we had it bad up here, you must be taking a real pounding from the sea. My thoughts are with you.

LostInWales · 07/02/2014 21:47

threebats DH wanted to drive from here (W Wales) to Cardiff and back tomorrow to see his mam, NO WAY was my response (sorry mam, love you but he is not going on the M4 during that forecast).

Meglet · 07/02/2014 21:49

I don't think I've ever slept as bad as I've slept this winter. I barely recover from one deluge of rain or howling gale waking me up.....and then another one comes along a few days later.

Wind is starting up again in north Hampshire.

LostInWales · 07/02/2014 22:03

This is the absolute joy of being deaf, I take out my hearing aids when I turn out the light and only my phone alarm vibrating under the pillow wakes me up, I hardly ever woke up for DS3 when he was small and I'm even worse now. Definitely the biggest silver lining ;-)

Weather here on the West Coast is awful, here we go again :-D

HesterShaw · 07/02/2014 22:03

:D

HesterShaw · 07/02/2014 22:03

Bugger.

:o

threebats · 07/02/2014 22:17

lostinwales I took my Nan up my mothers tonight as she was meant to go tomorrow at lunchtime - no way I told her - I am not having you at 95 years blowing off Loughor Bridge making me dive in after you... So she is safely up there tonight delivered with fish and chips and has a warm bed and company for the night.
