Weather warnings part 2 - will they fade away, or is bad weather set to remain?

Marne - that was the express and its dubious 'forecasters'. The met office were going for a rather average winter in October. See 6th October on this thread - which is a little hilarious given the deluges we've had.

They were right to go for a warmer than average/average temp though as December was 1.8C above the average. Of course we still have Jan to go from that Oct prediction but I cant see that it will go below average.

I read a long range weather forecast the other day that was written in November (might've been Netweather, I can't remember).

It predicted a 'dryer than average' December!

I bought snow boots this autumn too, boys also got a snow scooter each for Christmas from their granny. We've jinxed it.

brrrr it's rather chilly here in North Wales, and the rain is rather ferocious that and the wind is having a good old howl as well.

We bought snow boots and I bout dd1 some new ski trousers (as she hates the cold), all are still wrapped in the back of the cupboard and will probably stay there. When I was a child (a long time ago, maybe 25 years ago) if it was going to snow it would snow towards the end of Jan or first half of Feb, its only really been the past 5 years where it has snowed in December, maybe this year will be like it was many years ago? we never got much snow down south though (just enough to built a tiny snowman) .

I don't care what it looked like on the radar I have never been out in anything like that in my life before . Driving back this afternoon it was like someone was standing on the roof of the car directing a pressure hose at the windscreen. That was horrible.

I like dry and sparkly, so all the mud freezes and you can crack the puddles. It's impossible to go geocaching at the moment as the mud is knee-deep everywhere.

I don't think any forecaster saw the reawakening of the jet stream in the way it has. It seemed rather dead and buried for a while.

The idiot who fitted our extractor fan didn't weather proof it. Poor dp is outside trying to cover the vent as he can't fill it whilst it's dark and raining. I'm sure the neighbours will appreciate the hammering

Is it coming round the sides of the vent or through the middle? With the round ones I think a plastic bag tied over it might work.

Round the sides as there's no filler or anything. Dp has stopped it leaking now he's drenched! It's been running straight past the cooker socket though so we've switched it off. Luckily dp is a builder so he will be able to sort it

Thunder and lightening here in London just now, and the downpour has begun. The water is coming in through my upstairs windowframe, has saturated the wall, and is ruining the bathroom plasterwork. I only decorated the bathroom in the summer FFS. Now we have to replace the upstairs windows, and quite possibly re-do the bathroom and re-plaster again.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

(Sympathies with those who have been flooded out and have much greater problems than mine. Must be blimmin' awful. And I hadn't even thought about the risk of a frost shattering sodden brickwork ...).

The met office have pretty strict thresholds and at the moment I think Monday is more likely to have gusts exceeding 60mph than Tuesday.

me too coffee. And I'm counting myself lucky as we've not had it nearly as bad as the rest of the country (fens). It was actually dry for most of the day here. It's the wind I can't stand.
