to summarise the situation:

Tonight tomorrow: Heavy rain overnight and gales/severe off southern and western headlands through tonight into tomorrow. Could be more tidal flooding tomorrow in the SW again. Tomorrow, heavy squally showers, merging to heavy rain in the south, maybe hail and thunder. Potential for more trees to come down.

Thursday. Concerning amounts of rain fall in the south possible but its uncertain, models arent handling it very well. Perhaps snow on the northern edge.

Friday/saturday - rinse and repeat of tonights storm.

The south easterly is coming up here with another spring high at about 8pm.

I am scared for our business. We have property on the seafront.

ChippingInWadesIn · 04/02/2014 14:47

Thanks OYBBK - yes, it's physically & emotionally draining, my friend is //

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2014 15:12

Hester - the tension must be extraordinary, I really feel for you.

Chipping - your friend really shouldnt be having to go through that. Its not right when it is a preventable issue. Has she the strength to talk to the local paper about it?

87mph and now the power has gone. No gas here.

I'm SO OVER storms.

magimedi · 04/02/2014 17:39

Stay safe, Hester & anyone else who the storms are really hitting.

SpottyTeacakes · 04/02/2014 17:43

Oh no hester Sad we only have electric too it's such an arse when the power goes out. Hope you all stay safe.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2014 18:10

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2014 18:11

where did you get that figure from Hester?

OP posts:
Helenagrace · 04/02/2014 18:21

OYBBK I'm on the Sussex coast and the local met office forecast seems to be showing 99mph gusts for tomorrow. Do you think they actually mean that?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2014 19:11

I think that must have gone wrong Helena, you would be on an amber alert (with potential red later) were that expected to be the case. You may see 70-80mph I think which is bad enough.

Looking at southern england and east anglia gusts could be up around 60mph inland.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2014 19:20

oh yes, I see the 87mph figure now at Lands End. I hope you are doing ok Hester.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2014 19:22

SW could see 80mph winds again tomorrow too I'm afraid.

LostInWales · 04/02/2014 19:26

Well we have no central heating, that's nice. I think there has been so much debris and water blown back down the flue it's just given up. Thank goodness we have toasty warm whippets to cuddle Grin.

Helena that's grim, hope they get the electricity back soon.

Antidote · 04/02/2014 19:28

It's blowing dogs off chains here in the Tamar valley. DH likes to think he's getting a flight to London tomorrow from Newquay. Dream on sunshine!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2014 19:30

oh dear Lost! I think it was a matter of time though with the amount of sogginess its had to put up with. Hope it dries out for you soon.

Feel like a fraud here at the moment, its really not started at all where i am. I need a good nights sleep so I expect it will start up as I go to bed.

PestoStormissimos · 04/02/2014 19:31

Blowing a hooley down here - outskirts of Brighton.

SpottyTeacakes · 04/02/2014 19:36

Pretty windy here oybbk. Picking up anyway.

wearingpurple · 04/02/2014 19:37

SO bloody windy here (Dorset coast) that I've had to come upstairs - broken catflap is blowing the gale into the living room.

All I can hear is wind and stuff flying about in the street.

Makinglists · 04/02/2014 20:06

Really, really windy here on east side of Plymouth - bins already gone over once and as soon as I moved them back they were over again. The wind seems more evident than in earlier storms but perhaps thats because of the wind direction. Ds2 hates the sound of the wind so quite expecting him to be up in the night if this carries on!! Will have a look at the met office obs but this def. feels as bad as the storm on 23 Dec.

Antidote · 04/02/2014 20:20

Waves at makinglists from Saltash.

The bridges are singing tonight!

Marne · 04/02/2014 20:39

Very noisy here in Dorset and very wet.

LostInWales · 04/02/2014 20:42

We've had wind speeds of up to 69mph here in west Wales according to the local weather station Shock.

LostInWales · 04/02/2014 20:45

Local weather station is MOD (or whatever they call it this week) so probably quite accurate too.

JerseySpud · 04/02/2014 21:37

Hester i hope your power comes back soon :(

At the moment we have gusts up to 70mph, storm force 11 in guernsey, roads closed, flooding started and the whole island has been told to stay in unless the journey is necessary. all thats left to go is the power :|
