I confess I never find gardening a joy, but compared to DFs sticky clay our soil is a wonderful.

Sadly we have water so hard it's almost off the scale I'm Envy

Starballbunny · 03/02/2014 07:53

Ah Badkitten, definition of pluvial I found was flooding from overwhelming of urban drainage.

LostInWales · 03/02/2014 07:55

We have pluvial AND fluvial flooding here and no posh name tidal flooding, the joys of living at the start of an estuary! If they all happen together we are stuffed Wink.

Got pain clinic which I have been waiting a whole year for the appointment so a lovely drive along a river valley surrounded by trees this morning. Wish me luck!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/02/2014 08:09

Hope it goes well today Lost - that is a huge wait.

Pluvial is just when the rain water cant soak in any more.

we are really fucked if the flat suffers from pluvial flooding...we are on the second floor at the top of a hill.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/02/2014 11:13

Grin I think that would be apocalyptical. Though, if your toilet starts backing up, you might be able to blame that on pluvial flooding.

BlackeyedSusan · 03/02/2014 13:09

oh no, that would be the ex h and his ermm... well shall we say lack of fibre

LostInWales · 03/02/2014 15:06

I can't remember who was saying about the trees roots all being soggy and unstable but on the drive home I was travelling down one of those steep sided valleys with a river and just room for the road and there were scores of fallen over trees on either side, the council must have been working full pelt just to keep the road open. I can't believe we have another few days of this awful rain.

(Pain clinic was well worth the wait OYBBK, I feel like a pincushion but hurt a lot less!)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/02/2014 15:30

I feel rather sorry for council budgets - locally I know that they have used up all of their tree work budget for felling unstable trees. Sadly, the ones that seem to have felled themselves, are in general not the ones that they had marked out for removal!

Glad the pain clinic was worth it. I hope that the treatment is long lasting :) I'm in next week for an appt under sedation.

Our council must be stuffed, they were poor anyway and town has flooded from the river twice a day for the last few days, the road to the beach is washed to bits, they repaired it and the new tarmac has peeled off and the roads keep falling apart. Let alone Newgale, it's just wrecked.

(going back for SI joints soon but as day surgery, I cannot get over the difference having the top of my back done today has made, it's like a magic trick, I am like this Grin Grin Grin)

HesterShaw · 03/02/2014 20:19

We had some very destructive coastal flooding this morning. It's the worst I had seen it and part of the prom is gone. Overnight Tuesday looks worse - DH is very worried :(

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/02/2014 20:32

oh crikey Hester - really? I knew they were still warning but I thought it was going to be less bad. Tomorrow night does look bad.

The roads look terrible here even where its just continued gutters over flowing. Its shocking how destructive the rain can be.

(Had my SI joints done last summer :) It was so effective. Be prepared for the inbetween bit between the local wearing off and the steroids kicking in. I'm going to be having a longer lasting procedure next time - can talk over pm if you like)

Im wondering if there may be some temporary snow to lower levels first thing Friday morning in the south. It would be challenging for it to settle given all the water on the ground, but its something to watch for.

Jaw dropping amounts of rain coming up I'm afraid - Tuesday the 11th really needs to be different.

As an aside, portugal and western spain must be completely drowning - if you think weve got it bad....

No change through to the 19th Feb.

Anything for Jersey?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/02/2014 20:51

Lots more rain and wind I'm afraid Jersey.

OP posts:
HesterShaw · 03/02/2014 21:25

Yes Kitten, the swell forecast was ten metres at eighteen seconds from the south. This would be terrible news. However now it's looking more like 8 1/2 metres from the south west at about 16 seconds. Hoping it will continue to drop.

Starballbunny · 03/02/2014 21:44

Sodding Seven is still well over the line that should be labeled flooding has now happened!

You would like to drive the long way round!

Actually no I wouldn't, I'd like the council to build a proper cause way rather than accept the A main road disappears at regularly.

JerseySpud · 03/02/2014 21:47

Oh hell :( Like we need anymore. Have you seen whats been happening to our coast? :(

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/02/2014 21:48

I haven't Jersey.

OP posts:
HesterShaw · 03/02/2014 21:50

If it's a southerly swell I imagine France would protect you. If it's south westerly, you are more exposed.

So you want the opposite of south Cornwall!

JerseySpud · 03/02/2014 22:44

France unfortunatly doesn't protect us at all. We've had 40ft waves (which is smaller than the mainland have had but carnage here) and alot of damage to businesses

HesterShaw · 03/02/2014 22:47

Yes but on a southerly swell (not wind) it won't have any reach. We haven't had any southerly swells this winter - apart from here this morning which caused all the damage. A south westerly/westerly on the other hand must be very destructive, which is what we have been having this winter.

I'm not minimising Jersey's damage!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2014 07:55

Wave forecasts are not my strong point :)

Some worrying totals forecast by GFS locally - 75mm over five days. It ain't going to be pretty.

Lots of wind overnight into tomorrow and again Friday into Saturday. Enough to once again bring trees down. Some very heavy rain, especially in the south. Thursday could see some worrying rain totals. No change throughout the forest period towards the end of feb on GFS. I know people on other forums have been seeing some hope, but so far they haven't been right. Eventually though, this must stop!

I see on the radar this am snow over higher ground in Scotland, central Wales. Pennines may once again get some later.

Oh bloody hell. Thames Water being the useless twats they are... means I will probably be spending quite a bit more time trying to keep sewage water out of my friend's house (again). Deep joy & that wont even be the worst of it :(

If only they ploughed profits back into the victorian system instead of paying shareholders a small fortune, people's lives might not be wrecked. But hey, that would be the decent thing to do and that's not exactly their way :(

Not to mention the fact that they are lying bastards who keep saying 'No the pump station hasn't stopped working' - shame for them their technicians aren't such willing liars & we aren't as green as we are cabbage. Idiots.

That and my drive to work through the forrest is getting more worrying daily. Sigh.

However, lots of people are in an even worse position and my thoughts are with them x

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2014 11:30

You must be getting exhausted with it chipping. It's added a dimension to peoples lives that we really dont need.
