Quite a few flowering dandelions in the very bottom of the Pewsey Vale here, on the greensand - the bit where tbh you could plant a piece of an old lamp-post and it would grow and burst into light!

However also large amounts of horizontal sleet. Horizontal because it's being blown into your face at that angle due to the gale force wind.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/01/2014 22:48

Gloria Grin that's very high brow!

Strawberries at this time of year? It looks cold and wet this coming week. Going to be the worst of all worlds.

My guineapig is making a valiant effort in eating the grass.

Thanks OYBBK :) I have made 'may have to cancel' plans with other friends , it's getting a bit mad, haven't seen anyone other than Flood Friends at the weekends for ages.

Just came home from work, one of the main roads is completely covered in water in 3 places, one quite deep - it was a tad interesting for a minute there! (country road, fields etiher side looking like lakes!).

Bit concerned as it's all woods around here, especially my journey to work - after what everyone has been saying about the trees - which I hadn't even given a thought to!

pigsinmud · 30/01/2014 07:20

Grass - I wish I had some! The chickens seem to have made an amazing attempt to eat it all this winter. What with all the rain, it has turned in to a muddy mess.

Mirage · 30/01/2014 08:34

Noooo!!! It's snowing!

Sparklingbrook · 30/01/2014 09:30

And here!! make it stop!!

GloriaSmud · 30/01/2014 09:34

It's attempting to snow here (Leicester) but not trying very hard. Dull and 1.7C at the moment. According to uksnowmap, any snow/sleet/wintry stuff is over the Midlands at the moment!

GloriaSmud · 30/01/2014 10:56

According to bbc weather, we should be at 3C now but we're still stuck at 1.7C. Looking at raintoday, there's a great wodge (might not be a genuine meteorological term) of rain coming from the east ~ it'll be interesting what sort of weather we get when that reaches us.

GloriaSmud · 30/01/2014 11:07

And I guess we knew already that January would break records when it came to the monthly rain amounts.

GloriaSmud · 30/01/2014 11:30

We have snow ~ quite big flakes as well! Yipeeeeee!

leesmum · 30/01/2014 13:00

Not fair....I want a little bit of snow...(sulking)

GloriaSmud · 30/01/2014 13:40

It didn't last very long ~ only 10-15 minutes at the most. We're now having a sleety/snowy shower and we're up to 1.8C. Still no sign of the 4C high that we were forecast for today.

Sparklingbrook · 30/01/2014 13:42

Dry here now, but very dark.

Sparklingbrook · 30/01/2014 13:43

Tomorrow looks hideous-rain, rain and then some more rain.

Marne · 30/01/2014 13:47

No snow here Sad and it doesn't feel that cold either, it's has been dry all day ( maybe the calm before the storm), I have stocked up on food so I don't have to go out for the next few days ( just incase the roads flood, plus I hate driving in the rain ).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2014 13:51

Amber warnings are out for Somerset for rain tomorrow.

OYBK - Looks like Metcheck are following your predictions of a very bad start to February.

Taken from Metcheck Website;-

"We are aware that this Winter has been mild, wet and windy but the next week will make the Winter we've seen so far just "slightly damp" compared to the amount of rainfall we can expect over the next 7 days. Some areas across the South-west could see their entire average February rainfall fall in the space of just a few days. "

Those poor people in Somerset. :(

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2014 15:27

I don't think they are terribly far off, it doesn't look quite so bad in the latest model run but its cold comfort, still very very wet.

Another bomb on the way.

nemno · 30/01/2014 15:37

Oh no. Is Central South ie Oxfordshire, W Berkshire going to be bad too? You were spot on up to our last flood OYBBK, we haven't bothered trying to sort the house from that event, am glad about that at least. Met office is giving us pretty dry forecast for Sat 0600 through to Mon 1500, are they wrong? We NEED that window. Please, please

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2014 17:07

Nemno, it is, but as you've seen there is that potential respite time, though I'd expect some showers. GFS brings the edge of Mondays rain into your area at lunchtime but its too far in advance to have any accuracy about that.
