I'm keeping a pretty close eye on developments for Monday. some of the models (in particular gfs) are showing a deep low developing over England, with the majority of the gfs runs taking the worst of the wind over the south.

Massive if. But if the weather were to pan out as those models are suggesting it would be a damaging storm, especially given the trees still being in leaf. I'd keep an eye on the met office early warnings page and if they start warning about it then it would be a good weekend to tidy the garden before you lose your stuff Wink

I'll update as things become clearer.

Goodness! We're sitting just above the Romney Marsh. Should we be nailing down anything/removing the garden slide etc?

Mcspaniel. I'd think about how you may need to prepare but maybe not do it til Sunday.

Going to St Ives on Saturday - staying in a cottage, rather than camping, thank goodness. Is Cornwall going to be hairy then?

DanielHellHoundMcSpaniel · 24/10/2013 18:45

Oh god. Thank you. I will be watching this thread. I give you just as much credence as the met office now OYSSS Smile

BadRoly wish I did live there! As DH said tonight, I'd rather be in Cornwall in a storm than here full stop.

maudpringle · 24/10/2013 18:51

youarewinning · 24/10/2013 18:57

The air flights in storm winds has reminded me of one time only coming into Heathrow
The plane was violently rocking, shaking and juddering from side to side as we were landing. We passengers were terrified and a deathly silence descended on the plane. I was gripping on to my arm rest for dear life . We were just above the landing strip and was sure the wings would scrape the ground.
The pilot got us down safely and we all cheered - phew Smile

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 25/10/2013 07:20

Might be slightly bad timing that tale digerd Grin still we should take away the happy fact that you are alive to tell us this tale!

Models are still producing all sorts of different results. GFS doesn't develop the storm and instead we get widespread lesser gales. UKMO however does produce them. northern Germany and Denmark would possibly get it even worse than us.

anya, at the moment it's impossible to tell, it depends on the track. I wouldprepare for it though in general terms as it doesn't take much of a jiggle in course for northern France (and hence you) to cop the brunt of it.

Oh dear. We are getting the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam overnight on Monday. It's not going to be a fun trip is it? Envy

Meglet · 25/10/2013 07:32

rusty I was wondering if this would turn into an October 87 level storm Confused.

It will be a miracle if my fence survives Monday.

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 25/10/2013 08:03

oh golly thehappycamper.

I've looked at the metoffice weather maps. At the moment the worst of the gales go through between midnight and 9am, with gusts hitting 70mph through parts of central England, as well as the south coast.

It will be interesting to see how it evolves. Anya - that would keep you out of the worst of it, but things may still change drastically.

Love exciting weather if I know everyone is going to be ok!

Thanks for the updates OYWWW. I'm a normal lurker but breaking cover!Grin

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 25/10/2013 08:29

At the moment (and this may very well change!) the met office map shows gusts to about 50mph at 10pm at southampton gusting to 54mph by midnight and 70mph at 3am.

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 25/10/2013 08:32

ECMWF has the storm going through later, through Monday morning daylight hours rather than dark o'clock.
