2013/2014 Winter - Should we be getting ready for 'snowmageddon'?

According to this article, based on past winters and other factors, this winter could be a very chilly one.

I don't understand half of the things used to predict why this may be but I'm wondering if I should start making sure we're ready for it, should it come?

Keeping my eye on the forecast....I want a bit of snow before the end of term!

Perihelion · 26/11/2013 20:20

It's gone all warm again, here in Edinburgh. Currently 10.5C at 8.15pm......WTF, that's almost as warm as some rubbish summer days, and higher than the average temp for Edinburgh which is 9C.

Perihelion · 26/11/2013 20:41

Also doesn't appear to be looking good for comet ISON. Lots of dust coming off now which points to it disintrigrating. Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2013 20:57

Oh no :( please make it round little comet!

Meglet · 26/11/2013 22:09

We're free on the 7th and 8th, so if it really must then it can snow that weekend.

Such a lovely day today. We noticed the temp drop at work when the sun went down.

digerd · 27/11/2013 07:03

It was the coldest at 10pm last night @ +2 and is now + 6 SE

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2013 08:49

The latest gfs isnt so keen to introduce proper cold air, nevertheless its worth keeping an eye on.

HaveYouTriedARewardChart · 27/11/2013 09:08

Some Express front pages....

Compiled a few months ago so no snowmageddon but plenty of weather related ones.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2013 11:26

I love the quote:
"People have been saying for years that the Express is selling to a dying readership, but the paper is doing its damndest to keep them alive. "

Very mild here for days now which has been good when in the house - don't need the heating on! Smile

digerd · 27/11/2013 12:48

Haven't needed the heating on? Envy
SE. The cold NW wind has disappeared so feels milder. 10 degrees atm so not exactly warm.

SpottyTeacakes · 27/11/2013 12:51

I need it to not snow on or around the 18th December please Smile

Very cloudy and grey here today the leaves are a nice colour though

digerd · 28/11/2013 06:38

Most of the leaves have fallen here in SE and what are left on the trees look shrivelled up with no colour. Oak trees are the last to drop their leaves, but thank goodness for the evergreensSmile
Night temp stayed the same at +8.

SpottyTeacakes · 28/11/2013 07:48

I'm in the south east sort of.... There's one road I take which is a really steep, narrow hill and it's lined with colourful trees Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2013 08:15

Still looking interesting for the 7th. Will say more later, ran out of time :(

GloriaSmud · 28/11/2013 09:43

I'm looking forward to what all the models forecast as we get a bit closer to that weekend. Over on met-monkey they're almost wetting themselves getting quite excited about possible snow!

Netweather have issued their winter forecast while Weatheronline think this for the next month or two.

TheWoollybacksWife · 28/11/2013 11:18

The Netweather forecast for my part of Northamptonshire on 7th is "Day After Tomorrow-esque" Should I be swapping my little hatchback for a husky team and sled? Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2013 13:21

ECMWF is backing up GFS quite nicely with a spell of wintry weather next weekend. Areas most at risk for snow are the north and the east. Some severe frosts showing too.

Meglet · 28/11/2013 13:23

woolyback apparently huskys poo while they run. I'd take my chances on foot.

LeBearPolar · 28/11/2013 13:36

No snow until the end of term, please! I live 15 miles from the school where I work and refuse to drive in the snow - so heavy snow means a chilly walk to the station for me...

Oh and we're going away after that so actually, no snow until about the 20th Grin But after that, DS would love some!

Perihelion · 28/11/2013 14:00

North and East sounds good to me Grin
Crossing my fingers for ISON suriving perihelion this evening....

ElbowPrincess · 28/11/2013 15:46

True we are getting snow (possibly) here in East Scotland next week?

ElbowPrincess · 28/11/2013 15:47

Watching live updates of ISONs perhelion too!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2013 19:23

Been cheering it on a little on this thread too.

Come on Ison - pull yourself together!! Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2013 19:38

pretty good blog which I wish I'd spotted before.
