2013/2014 Winter - Should we be getting ready for 'snowmageddon'?

According to this article, based on past winters and other factors, this winter could be a very chilly one.

I don't understand half of the things used to predict why this may be but I'm wondering if I should start making sure we're ready for it, should it come?

Hester it will be such a luxury for you!

Tardis

Got drowned this evening!

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 20/11/2013 22:51

If any of you are comet watchers I've put some info links on comet Ison here

If it gets exciting when it re-emerges after its close encounter with the sun I'll start a weather forecast for viewing.

HesterShaw · 20/11/2013 22:52

Excellent! Looks clear Friday and the weekend.

Thanks for the kind words ladies. Hopefully not too long now :)

FunnyRunner · 20/11/2013 23:09

A balmy 6 deg here this evening at 9pm. Very windy still but not as crazy as last night, plus it is raining rather than hailing. Hopefully we will all sleep better tonight without our window being pelted!

SpottyTeacakes · 21/11/2013 07:33

Oybbk have the met office or anyone offered a reaction to the daily express' latest headline of '100 days of snow' I keep seeing it popping up on my fb and am a bit Hmm(sorry if you've already said I've been away)

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 21/11/2013 07:54

I'm not sure if they have, but it is probably a load of bollocks! If its not it's a only by coincidence. Don't forget the Express were screaming about heavy snow in November recently and so far the snow has been nothing out of the extraordinary for this time of year.

SpottyTeacakes · 21/11/2013 07:56

I tend to go with 'if the express say it it won't happen' I just get infuriated with how many people believe it!

digerd · 21/11/2013 09:00

S.Herts.

Looks nasty out there and dog took a look through the window and went back to sleep. Very blustery N wind, 5 degrees but stopped raining and think the clouds are breaking up ,wishful thinkingHmm

My electrical sockets in both reception rooms went off again last night at 9pm so had to phone my insurance again. Thank goodness I left the extension leads plugged into my kitchen from last month when it first happened. Pouring rain is the common denominator but they couldn't find the cause. I was hoping it was a one-off gremlin attackSad

bundaberg · 21/11/2013 09:16

i'm looking forward to a bit of snow to make a change from the rain! lol

in west sussex here and it is COLD!

johnworf · 21/11/2013 09:47

The temperatures seem to be dropping as we head towards the weekend although from the forecasts I've seen there's going to be rain and sunshine mix. Seems normal for this time of the year?

No 100 days of snow mentioned though Wink

Back from dog walk and was not as cold as expected. Plus side is when back home the house feels much warmer than when I went outSmile

FunnyRunner · 21/11/2013 11:56

It is bloody freezing here today! Properly biting wind

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 21/11/2013 13:20

Hello again!

No more snow here but the temperatures have plummeted. It was -26 yesterday (-35 with the wind chill).

Perihelion · 21/11/2013 18:31

OYBBK I might be slightly intrested in comet watching Grin...Have been too lazy so far to get up earlier than usual.

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 21/11/2013 18:34

snap! plus I could hear the rain this am so I didnt need to get out of bed!

digerd · 21/11/2013 19:13

SE
Sky cleared about 3pm and forecast here is for a clear night and widespread frost tomorrow. Did get to 8 degrees now 3.

FunnyRunner · 21/11/2013 19:19

Due to be between -1 and -5 tonight depending on area. I have the fire lit!Grin

Perihelion · 21/11/2013 20:54

Almost wished you'd not mentioned ISON. Have just checked the weather for tomorrow morning and it's clear and sunrise is at 8:02.......sooooo technically wouldn't have to get up too early, to go for a wee comet hunt.....

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 21/11/2013 21:11

Good luck peri :)

GloriaSmud · 22/11/2013 06:48

Another day, another corker of a forecast from the Express!

mankyscotslass · 22/11/2013 06:52
Grin
leesmum · 22/11/2013 07:10

MAY Hmm

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 22/11/2013 07:15

Why do they do it? Love how right at the end the met office say: turning cool and settled, risk of fog Grin. I think I'm going to go with that one.

digerd · 22/11/2013 07:23

S.Herts
No frost and temp+1 in the night and now +2 and cloudy atm.

Perihelion · 22/11/2013 09:12

I don't think it has been an exceptionally cold November. Here it's been a right mix of weirdly warm and normal. Mind you last winter seemed to last till May.
OYBBK didn't get up this morning of comet hunting. Would have been perfect, but realised I'd have to do a bit of travelling to get a nice clear SE horizon. Think I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed that the sun doesn't suck uo ISON.
