2013/2014 Winter - Should we be getting ready for 'snowmageddon'?

According to this article, based on past winters and other factors, this winter could be a very chilly one.

I don't understand half of the things used to predict why this may be but I'm wondering if I should start making sure we're ready for it, should it come?

Really!!!!! 30C.....wow. Im freezing. Went for a lovely walk at about four oclock to get a closer look at Snowdon with snow on. Its at the back of me. It was lovely but I had to wear my padded down coat and a huge wooly scarf wrapped around my face so only my eyes were showing.

LineRunner · 19/11/2013 19:12

That's three degrees, right, Jersey? Not thirty?

When will I see you again ... when we will share precious moments ...

LineRunner · 19/11/2013 19:17

Sorry justmuddling I don't know what the frost protection thingy is on a convection heater but I would be interested to know. Maybe try the Good Housekeeping board?

I was thinking of getting a plug-in one in case my gas boiler packs in, so I can at least keep one room above-freezing.

MillyRules · 19/11/2013 19:18

The frost protection just is where you leave the heater on all the time and when it senses that it is below a certain temperature it will automatically come on to keep the chill off.Smile

Oh!! The SE and EA might have a bit of snow tomorrow!! That's a turn up for the books. Going to be a nice surprise for some perhaps.

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 19/11/2013 22:06

Tomorrow could be briefly stormy as the front goes through with possible thunder?? And hail and maybe a bit of snow thrown in as well as heavy rain. Fun!

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 19/11/2013 22:29

Bump.

pepperrabbit · 19/11/2013 22:32

Cold, hail, snow and thunder!
That's a whole weather festival Grin
I'm so glad I had my radiators replaced yesterday.

digerd · 20/11/2013 07:08

OYBBBK
I missed your news for the SE. We had -3 @ 02.07. Now +1.3.
Sitting room went down to 16 and only 18 now after 90 minutes of heating. I forgot to put the boiler on maximum last night, but did check the pressure and had gone too low again so upped it again.
No snow as was a clear sky.
Will be walking the 5 minutes to dance hall in my eskimo outfit this morning at 9.15 . Preferable to the pouring rain thoughSmile

Littleredsquirrel · 20/11/2013 09:16

Stormy here in the East Midlands. The wind is blowing hard outside and its very wet.

WhispersOfWickedness · 20/11/2013 09:24

Ugh, it's hideous here (north lincs), so much rain! Sad

FunnyRunner · 20/11/2013 09:43

Incredibly windy and lots of hail. Sounded like gravel was being thrown at the windows for most of the night. Very stormy this morning, sunshine and hail showers.

GloriaSmud · 20/11/2013 10:04

'Orrible here (Leicester) Very windy and wet. It was 6C earlier and in the last 20 minutes, the temperature's dropped to 3.6C Shock

mankyscotslass · 20/11/2013 11:38

It was wild overnight here too rain, hail and high winds - but by 8.30 it had stopped, the sun came out and the temperature plummeted.

I have washing on the line now!

digerd · 20/11/2013 12:36

Just walked home in sleety rain and little dog refused to go out to do a wee in the garden. She loves snow but hates the rain. Hope it stops this afternoon as she needs a 20 minute walk. 4 degrees atm.

FunnyRunner · 20/11/2013 13:31

Crazy winds here. Poor cats ran outside for about a second and a half, then turned and fled back inside :o

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 20/11/2013 13:45

It went bonkers here late morning - high winds and hail. Fab!! Unfortunately I couldnt come on this morning to reinforce my warning as my day has been as crazy as the weather Confused

met office warnings for snow

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 20/11/2013 13:49

I see some parts of London/SE have had a bit of snow :)

ibbydibby · 20/11/2013 14:23

no snow here (Norfolk) just heavy rain this morning and now unshine & blue sky.

Perihelion · 20/11/2013 15:51

No snow, but feels like winter now, bitter NW wind.

HesterShaw · 20/11/2013 16:50

I'm nearly weeping with cold. Bah. Sooner our completion date is set the better. A house with Actual Heating....I can't imagine the luxury :)

mankyscotslass · 20/11/2013 17:03

We had a hail shower just before the school run this afternoon, but other than that is has been beautiful, if cold!

OYBBK, for you Tardis

digerd · 20/11/2013 18:58

S.Herts
Suddenly about 1.30pm the sky cleared and took little dog for her walk at 2 in blue skies and sunshineSmile.
Drizzling again now. Top temp +6 now +3.7. Could be icy tomorrow unless temps increase in the night or wake up to snowHmm

duckyfuzz · 20/11/2013 19:00

2c and torrential sleet here

WhispersOfWickedness · 20/11/2013 22:44
