2013/2014 Winter - Should we be getting ready for 'snowmageddon'?

According to this article, based on past winters and other factors, this winter could be a very chilly one.

I don't understand half of the things used to predict why this may be but I'm wondering if I should start making sure we're ready for it, should it come?

It's a chilly 5.4C here and the weather station says it's going to rain. Brrr

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 18/11/2013 22:11

Thanks :) taking a bit of time to cool down then.

seb1 · 18/11/2013 22:42

1 deg C here just outside Glasgow

seb1 · 18/11/2013 22:58

It is snowing now

RegainingUnconsciousness · 19/11/2013 06:21

O.M.G. There's actual snow on the cars outside!

LineRunner · 19/11/2013 06:34

BBC Weather says cold and wintry till at least mid-December.

RegainingUnconsciousness · 19/11/2013 07:54

Our actual snow has turned out to be accumulated hail. Boo, I was so excited! Cold enough though, at 1.3C, and more rain clouds around.

mankyscotslass · 19/11/2013 08:00

Its a beautiful clear morning here in Manchester- Dh had to scrape the car before he went to work.

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 19/11/2013 08:21

lol regaining - hail is at least white!
Thanks for the report Seb :)

mankyscotslass · 19/11/2013 08:22

OYBBK, looking forward to Saturday then? Love the nc. Grin

digerd · 19/11/2013 08:49

1 degree in the night - SE-, but a brilliant blue sky and sunny. Still too cold to go out yet with little dog so will wait a bit and hope it doesn't cloud over, just warm up .

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 19/11/2013 08:58

Very excited about Saturday Grin

I see from an 'its snowing' thread that the snow has reached lower levels in parts of scotland and also north Wales.

So forecast not too far off. I suspect the Brecon Beacons will get some. Perhaps some of the SW Moors.

GloriaSmud · 19/11/2013 10:34

We were down to 1C at 7.37am and we're currently at the dizzy heights of 3.4C here (Leicester)

There are some pretty scenes on the travelscotland website. In the 'Highland and Western Isles' section, the A9 Ord Ousdale North and the A835 Braemore West are both looking nice and wintry.

MillyRules · 19/11/2013 11:32

We had SNOW this morning. We have had SNOW on the mountains for weeks but today was proper snow. Yay.

MillyRules · 19/11/2013 11:40

I'm near Caernarfonshire

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 19/11/2013 11:43

Yay Milly :)

MillyRules · 19/11/2013 11:52

As in North Wales

justmuddlingalong · 19/11/2013 12:11

Can anyone explain something for me? I have a convector heater in my kitchen which has a frost protection setting. How does it work? TIA

LostInWales · 19/11/2013 12:17

My boys have snow up at their school which is inland and higher up than home, they will be Grin Grin when they get home later. We are right on the coast so just slushy sleet and lots of hail here. (South West Wales).

Perihelion · 19/11/2013 12:25

Cold and frosty overnight in Edinburgh. Currently 3C, blazing sunshine, with a whisper of wind... Nae snow.

leesmum · 19/11/2013 12:44

Very sunny in Manchester but a very cool 4 degrees

teta · 19/11/2013 14:23

Sugar sprinkles in Shropshire early in the morning,at one stage coming out of a beautiful blue sky.Hailstones now and it feels properly cold

BadgersRetreat · 19/11/2013 14:27

Greetings from Southern Canada

we will have a 'high' of -16 today with a few flurries. It feels like -26 with the wind chill this morning.

The blizzards were interesting on Sat - shocking road conditions outside the city. Spent most of the day indoors Grin. Hard to tell how much we got as it drifted but i'd say about 3 inches.

digerd · 19/11/2013 17:36

SE.
We had icy air today and now it is only 0. The lowest so far at this time of the dayHmm
Can't see if the sky is clear or clouded over as stars are not visible these daysSad.

AChristmassyJerseySpud · 19/11/2013 18:35

3oC here in Jersey now
