met office warnings For tomorrow for Scotland and NW England, extending to Yorkshire. NW Scotlant in particular looks awful with blizzard conditions.

I'm not quite sure about the warnings for England, I'm going to be really interested to see how they pan out. Tuesday scattered sleet and snow showers for many.

Raining here. It was dry all day, I hung the towels out and it started raining that very instant Hmm May as well leave them out - there's nowhere else to put them. There's an evil easterly gale hurling smoke down the chimney too.

Spring - you can come back now.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 10/03/2013 19:28

I just read about it too. Leaving aside the unforgivable confusion of where and were in the very first paragraph, it's quite an interesting and frightening read.

PestoFrostissimos · 10/03/2013 19:30

Been snowing here a bit since about 5.00pm - on & off. Up high on the Downs near Brighton.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/03/2013 19:33

its not right this is it? We should be having a lovely warm March and April (with night time rain for the garden) followed by a lovely warm summer with a few splendidly good storms thrown in. Then a good old fashioned autumn gale for a bit of excitement a few foggy days then frost and crisp autumn leaves. A snowy Christmas and Jan/Feb then back to a lovely March.

hmpff.

I know. I had to put a down coat on AND gloves AND a hat AND a scarf this afternoon to walk to the postbox. It's just WRONG Angry

pepperrabbit · 10/03/2013 20:32

(NE Hants) It was so cold this afternoon Sad, took the kids out to walk to my mums this afternoon for some "fresh" air. It was so bitter I had to phone DH to collect us later (he was detained by the rugby Hmm). Poor DD had her mittens clutched across her face against the wind.
I think we may have to do indoor gardening at school tomorrow!

digerd · 10/03/2013 21:19

In Germany I had to do the same just to go to the bins for several months every winter. I came back for the mild winters and long not too hot summers.

+1 now but feels much colder but no frost or snow outside.
Glad I left my Camelia well wrapped up, and no rain today.

digerd · 10/03/2013 21:25

While walking little dog this afternoon, I was sheltered from the icy wind by bushes from the north/east. Then the bushes got smaller and I got colder. Really pleased I wore my sheepskin gloves, they are toasty warm.
I just need a sheepskin hat with ear and cheek muffs.

pepperrabbit · 10/03/2013 22:09

digerd I've been smiling at the thought of your camelia wearing mittens all day Smile

mumat39 · 10/03/2013 22:30

Hope you had a Happy Mother's Day too Gloria and that you managed to stay warm whilst moving the boat.

Just watched the bbc weather and it didn't look like there's much snow around. They seem to be saying cold esp with windchill, frosty on Monday night but mostly dry for most of the country.

mummylin2495 · 10/03/2013 22:30

supposed to snow here in Bournemouth, but its been raining since this afternoon so I cant see it settling unless there is tons of it.But if it does I will be a happy girl because I can wear my snow boots again Smile

GloriaSmud · 11/03/2013 06:37

Thank you, mumat. Moving the boat only took an hour but it was sooooo cold! Was nice to do it though as I don't get on canals/boats very often these days!

We've got a slight (about 1/2 cm) snow covering here and we're down to -3c this morning. Looks fairly bright out though so it might be a nice day even if it is a rather cold one!

digerd · 11/03/2013 07:19

S.Herts
Minus 1 in the night but no frost on the grass? Does wind do that? Remember in the bowels of my mind that wind keeps frost away?

Not been out yet to feel the wind chill factor as is very breezy this morning.
Sky seems to be clearing - sunny today?

PeneloPeePitstop · 11/03/2013 07:25

Snowing like buggery.

digerd · 11/03/2013 07:29

Pepper

Just hope it works, and the buds don't rot for lack of air. I have done many things that 'seemed a good idea at the time', but ended up not.

I remember with my Clematis in Germany, at end of April which was covered with buds. Weatherforecast said minus 15 in the night, so I hung a blanket over it. In May it was spectacular- so it worked then. My good ideas sometimes work

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2013 07:34

Main area of risk has shifted to Hampshire and Sussex coastal areas (and maybe 30-40 miles inland) also Kent. disruption seems likely. SW not so likely to get disruptive snow now. elsewhere lots of snow showers, perhaps coming in trains so that some see a reasonable amount while others not so much.

We have a covering of the white stuff this morning. T'is bitterly cold and flakes are still coming down. (Outskirts of Brighton)

GerardWay · 11/03/2013 07:43

Woke up to a slightly white Bournemouth Smile. It is still lightly snowing.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2013 07:51

Pesto and Gerard, I think you are in for a decent amount today. Take care if you are out and about.

Glaikit · 11/03/2013 07:56

Snow here, West Lothian! About 3 inches. Ds and I are staying in!

madasa · 11/03/2013 07:58

I have a week off work and was planning spring like gardening, walks etc. .....grrrrrrr

FriendofDorothy · 11/03/2013 07:59

I'm in Guernsey and we hardly ever get snow. Blowing a gale and snowing at the moment tho!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2013 08:07

FOD aren't you under a red alert? You may end up with some serious very noteworthy amounts.

OP posts:
FriendofDorothy · 11/03/2013 08:22

Yes we are. Not sure what it means to bd honest.

The main problem in guernsey is that we are do poorly equipped for snow. Everything stops!

digerd · 11/03/2013 08:41

pigletjohn

Are you on the Sussex south coast?

We are very bright with hazy sun here < smug face> But only 0 degrees.
Full eskimo outfit for little dog's walks today - she's fine with her thick double layered furry hair.
Sun's getting stronger now.
