Remembering the song Spring, Spring Spring, from one of my fave old musicals 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, but they had to wait until JUNE for the snow to melt. We had to wait until May in Germany and that was too long for me.

digerd · 26/01/2013 09:26

Now the sun is up, it's clouding over from the south -
Temp 5.6 degrees only so far.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 26/01/2013 09:33

We had heavy rain too. And everything is still snowy! It'd better melt by Monday I can't cope with another snowy school run.

Dithering now. I really do not like to drive in snow. (I know the roads are clear but our car broke down in snow once and it was really awful)

lubeybooby · 26/01/2013 09:42

rained heavily here, most of the snow gone now and it's 3c

apart from in my chilly north facing garden, extra sheltered by trees and hedges, still snowy and icy out there. Front pretty much all clear though. Roads don't seem a prob at all.

I feel cheated though! 30 mins drive away (notts), they got proper fat heavy snow. hmph.

PuppyMonkey · 26/01/2013 09:46

Massive snowfall last night here in Nottingham, buses stuck and cars abandoned on main roads - the lot. Big snow in our garden this morning, but sun is out and it's melting off roofs etc. DP and DD making snowmen before t goes.

TheHumancatapult · 26/01/2013 09:49

Stansted airport way we had light dusting over night then some rain which has melt bugger all . Still snow ice left from last week . Sun out and am hoping it melts the bugger I not been able go out in over a week now

Hulababy · 26/01/2013 09:55

Thick snow overnight and into the early morning here in Sheffield. DH was out at a party in town. Managed to get taxi who brought him most of the way; he then had to walk last mile and a bit. Said it was very deep. He was also frozen as did not have sensible clothes at all - not even a proper coat - when he got in just after 2.

However our farmer has been out. We use part of the estate mangement fee to pay for a local farmer with tractor to plough and grit the main road that runs through centre of our estate. So that is pretty clear now, just a thin coating.

Looking at the traffic cameras on the council site the in town main roads are now clear too, and the site also says most buses are running - hopefully! We have to go to town later and collect DH's car. DH and me are out tonight too so need to get DD to a friend's house this afternoon.

Sun is now out and it looks like a thaw has started - much less snow on the cars already.

digerd · 26/01/2013 09:59

Clouds where the sun is have turned white and hazy now - they were grey before. Rest of sky still blue.

wibblyjelly · 26/01/2013 10:36

Any snow due in East London, Kitten? Currently down the South Coast, but heading back to London today, so want to know what to expect!

TheSilveryTinsellyPussycat · 26/01/2013 10:51

4 in fresh snow accumulated here in Co Durham - it snowed all yesterday and some of last night.

snowflakehellokitty · 26/01/2013 11:27

Starting to melt here, I am delighted after two weeks of the bloody stuff Grin

It's about 2-3c here as well. I read the news report on this lot of snow this morning, there was an MP stuck on the M6 quoted as saying that the snow had 'come out of nowhere' Hmm WTF?! He should have been reading this thread Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/01/2013 14:31

WOW I saw that too Grin he'd have known Monday that there was something possibly afoot!

It was beautiful walking my dog on the river bank at 11am this morning, and we got to 8 degrees. Just been out again and no more sun but the snow and ice has almost all gone, YIPEE. So much easier to walk on.
Perhaps we'll have the + 12 tomorrow?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/01/2013 16:18

Maybe digerd. I'm estimating 8-10c for tomorrow.

So we're possibly not in for a cold Feb then? Hope so, Id like to be able to get back to normal instead of the whole can I can't I situation Ive been having.

Drove down to York today, main roads were fine, but the side roads were absolutely awful to drive in. Didn't visit family as I just wasn't confident after having difficulties stopping at one point in York and that was at 5 miles an hour Shock

It was very sluchy and horrible in the city centre this morning too. Should have taken wellies with us.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/01/2013 16:49

I wouldn't rule out another cold spell in feb, but there's not a lot showing for at least the first week of feb. maybe some hints after...

Please no more Sad We are heading out tomorrow to my lovely ILs, it's the first proper little outing i've had in a fortnight! I'm even missing doing the weekly shop Blush

digerd · 26/01/2013 20:17

South Herts
Have 7 degrees atm. Don't know if it has rained since dark, but feel much safer walking the dog in the dark with out the ice and snow. Phew what a relief.
My only concern now is for my early blooming Camelia, which has loads of buds this year. When suddenly milder, it begins to open the outer layer of the protective flower buds, and if the frost returns, it kills them. < worried face>. It looks a wonderful sight when manages to be full in bloom.
In January 2012, we had gales and rain and it fell over, as in a pot, onto the ground and buds fell off. So had no show last year, due to bad weather.
