Apologies to those in Norfolk who may well not be excited any more!!!!
This a continuation of This thread and is for model watching, forecasting and general excitement Grin

abbier - no although there will be scattered snow showers about today, it just means that the timings I posted this time yesterday may be a little off. However, GFS is sticking firmly to the timings.

mordion - what rotten timing. Exeter itself is very borderline for the snow but slough is not.

helena, at a quick glance, I think that there maybe heavy snow for a time for you.

Ok, going to have a thorough look now - will have to tackle further questions later on this afternoon.

Just checking in for the excitement .

I am in west Sussex and keeping fingers crossed we get a good dumping .

If its going to snow then I want big fat snow that closes the roads so I can't work rather than the snow on black ice stuff that makes me want to never drive again .

Look at surface pressure chart at Fri 12:00. You can see a little occluded front ahead of the long occluded front (which wobbles around before occluding out) and that is bringing in the earlier snow to the south and midlands, then more general light snow fills in across the Uk. Nice to see the culprit on the charts isnt it :)

Checking in Smile
We still have several inches here since Monday and it doesn't look like it's going anywhere in this temperature, brrr...
I'd quite like not to have anymore tbh, everything seems to be suggesting light snow from Friday at 3pm until Sunday Confused no idea what light snow means though as when it has said that, we have had anything from a couple of cm to absolutely nothing Confused OYBBK, would you be able to shed some light? I am in the middle of the Lincolnshire Wolds.

BlackAffronted · 17/01/2013 07:56

Any idea what we can expect on the Angus coast this weekend? Are we due any snow tomorrow?

MirandaWest · 17/01/2013 07:57

I'm in York which is pretty chilly at the moment. Is it really going to snow tomorrow? We had some on Monday which is still here in places but I am wondering whether and when it will be joined by any more.

So very quickly breakdown of timings as they stand (as they may once again change!)

Early am: rain in the far SW also parts of western Wales. Snow in the west midlands and rest of Wales

9am: draw a line from the IOW to Wales. (though it may be further ahead even in the south, towards west sussex)

12pm: almost all the way across. Starting to reach Northern Ireland.

3pm: Snow all the way across, except for poor old W (cut off very approx Exeter) Snow now also in Northern Ireland

6pm: snow now moving into southern scotland, but it looks to remain light.

Saturdays snow doesnt look so persistent now - it looks to gently fizzle out, though persistent in parts of the east midlands. Some southern coastal areas could possibly see rain.

Will leave Sunday and further on for now - seems more like a snow showers day and I need to look in detail at the next approaching weather system.

Cheers Kitten, thank you for your hard work. Smile

travellingwilbury · 17/01/2013 08:09

Thanks kitten , looks like you will be getting it then :)

droitwichmummy · 17/01/2013 08:11

A light sprinkle of snow in north Worcestershire this morning. Will report on Birmingham when my train gets there

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/01/2013 08:12

v. quick comment before I fly out of the door. Wouldnt be surprised to see an extra amber area (or a shift in it) to reflect the pesky little trough.

mankyscotslass · 17/01/2013 08:12

Thanks OYBBK!

I shall wait and see. Grin

droitwichmummy · 17/01/2013 08:19

Proper snow on Lickey Hills but not enough to cause any problems

lubeybooby · 17/01/2013 08:22

is it coming in from the west or the east (or other?)

lubeybooby · 17/01/2013 08:22

The main load of it tomorrow I mean.

I thought it was coming in from the west but I'm confused now

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 17/01/2013 08:25

If the amber could just shift away from South Wales and Bristol for Friday night and Saturday morning, that would be fine.

OYBK, I assume you can sort that for me please? Wink

mankyscotslass · 17/01/2013 08:26

No frost here this morning, despite felling bitter cold.

droitwichmummy · 17/01/2013 08:27

BBC said rain was coming from the West and meeting the cold front which will turn it to snow

mankyscotslass · 17/01/2013 08:39

I have a horrible feeling we will just end up with sleet or rain here on the edge of Greater Manchester. Sad

robino · 17/01/2013 08:43

OYBKK can I add to your workload?

We're flying back from the ME for a two week visit tomorrow. Given that it was 19 degrees C yesterday and the children required hoodies, leggings and socks before they ventured out the house, then still moaned about the "cold" this is spectacularly bad timing...

We fly into Manchester at noon tomorrow and are then due to head to West Yorks early Saturday.

How bad is this going to be? (Do I need to drag the kids out to the mall to buy hats incase my dad doesn't make it to meet us?!). Am feeling quite spectacularly overwhelmed by the prospect of cold and I used to be a tough northern lass!

droitwichmummy · 17/01/2013 08:48

Very little snow in Birmingham. Trains into Birmingham New Street station seem to be ok

poorbuthappy · 17/01/2013 08:48

It's snowing ever so slightly Cwmbran:Newport. I can see it over the mountain though. It's looking rather ominous actually.

TomDaleysTrunks · 17/01/2013 08:55

OYBBK thank you so much. Really hope they do cancel it as I don't feel ready for it. Hope everyone stays warm! Brrrr!

reastie · 17/01/2013 09:17

Just checked bbc weather and my local weather (west Kent) has changed from light snow to heavy snow from 11am tomorrow for a few hours. Am very nervous driving in snow and drive home from work involves lots of country lanes and is too far to walk but I refuse to be stuck at the school I work at for the night .

This is an odd question but what do schools do when it suddenly starts heavy snow during school hours? I work at a private secondary school that have their own minibus service for many students so I'm assuming if it looks to be heavy snow they will take the kids home before it gets too deep?
