sparkle. Fear not! Your turn is coming very soon!

fimbo - you need to start blowing hard towards the west and send it to those who have been so far deprived.

zombie - neteather uses gfs as a raw output and boy does gfs overcook in these circs!!! I wouldnt be surprised to see a -8C but Im really not sure about -14c!

What do you forecast for Birmingham kitten? DO we get snowmageddeon for Friday?

Report
mankyscotslass · 16/01/2013 15:52

Absolutely freezing all day today - lovely sunshine though.

I have a huge pot of carrot, lentil and chili soup cooking. That should warm me up!

Thank you Kitten, lunchtime flight so might be ok - at least Jersey have their own met office so i'll be able to take a look at the airport camera in the morning! :)

we are meant to be driving from home (Worcestershire) to the back of beyond (near Grosmont) on welsh borders on Friday after 3pm for the weekend. Me (35wks preg) dh and 2 kids. Its not looking good is it? DH will attempt the journey even if the snow is really heavy but I am feeling pretty concerned about it. The thought of being stuck in the car in heavy snow in the middle of nowhere, not good. Will be keeping a v close eye on weather forecast over next few days, looks like we could have pretty significant amount of snow.

Could we have a likelihood of snow for Cirencester please? Smile

Supposed to be dropping DS there at a friends this weekend!

Love the snow though and these threads Thanks to OYBK

I think it will miss us again. North Yorkshire, in the middle. Monday's snow was mostly to the East of us, and it looks like Saturday's is going to be mostly to the West.

I want to go sledging at the weekend, please.

JenAT Make sure you have plenty of supplies in boot should you need them enroute.

Dawndonna · 16/01/2013 16:19

OYBBK Are we okay now or are Norfolk and North Suffolk liable to get any more. The met office pretty maps show yellow, but I can't work out if that's for ice or snow!
Thank you!

So looking at the latest gfs only (bearing in mind that other models may have different ideas)

Pretty much the same as this mornings summary. Front seems to come in a bit faster by an hour or two I think. Cornwall and sw tip of Wales remain too warm for snow and along the south coast the snow may change to rain later in the day as dew points rise a little. Away from the far sw remaining a very cold weekend. GFS is going for ridiculous temps in central england, so just in case, make sure those outside taps are turned off at the inside.

Then next week it shows the cold mostly remaining with more snow opportunities but perhaps more of a messy mix too in the south similar to last Monday.

JenAT that sounds stressful for you! Met office showing huge yellow band for part of Wales. Do you HAVE to go?

I hate driving in the snow when it's actually falling....as it comes towards the windscreen, it's hypnotic and I get mesmerised by the falling flakes.

JenAT · 16/01/2013 16:22

will do Sparkle, I am also concerned that I have to wee every hour at the moment, so if stuck in traffic may end up in comedy emergency wee at side of road moment!

dawndonna, yup, more snow for you! for both Friday and saturday, perhaps into Sunday a little too.

life - snow for you too, starting probably mid morning and going right through your shift. Good luck!

betty - looks like snow Friday and perhaps also some on Sat morning too.

jenat - I think there could be a fair amount of lying snow for you I'm afraid. Not looking like a terribly fun journey.

Thanks kitten.

Was loving your summary but I'm ignoring the last bit. La la lala. the last Monday bit. We had sleet and rain most of the day, so I'm hoping if anything has to fall that it's snow.

sparkle, we're down the A3 towards London, so if the weather stops near you and asks for directions, will you please tell it to go down the a3 and turn left at tolworth please? Grin

Yep! Yellow snow may be seen at intervals along the hard shoulder of the M5, M50 and the a49 if the traffic is v slow and even worse my bare bottom glinting in the headlights, be warned Wink

Me at, that doesn't sound good at all. Is there anyway you could leave the day before or stay put if it gets bad? I remember one year when there were people stranded on the m11 overnight.

If you have to travel, the remember to pack blankets, a snow shovel and some hot soups and snacks to keep you going, just in case.

Good luck and sorry if I'm worrying you more, just take care. xxx
