There should be secret handshake....

fatsatsuma · 17/01/2013 21:23

OYBBK here in N Oxon it's been snowing very lightly for hours, but it's not really doing very much - maybe 1-2cm? We seem to be getting mostly 'light snow' tomorrow according to UKMO - does this mean more of what we're having now? Do I need to prepare to be totally underwhelmed by tomorrow?? Confused

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/01/2013 21:27

Fatsatsuma, not guaranteed but you should get at least a few cm I'd have thought.

hehe, Theres a mum that lives round the corner to me who's Son is a year or two older than mine in the same school. Often see her doing the school run and we have both clocked each other wearing the MN scarf! I often wonder if shes a MNetter and who she is :)

MegGriffin... You dont have a son who goes to WG do you ?:D

WeAreSix · 17/01/2013 21:29

damn Wasn't there a secret scarf?

I kind of like the anonymity but as I don't post anything personal really, or even that often, if wouldn't worry me if someone knew who I am. I've dropped MN into conversation before and noone has admitted to being on here!

GloriaSnow · 17/01/2013 21:30

OYBBK ~ I've been looking at the radar and was wondering whether you think the band of snow we're having this evening will stay where it is (looking at raintoday, it doesn't seem to have moved very far in the last few hours) and whether the band of rain/snow that's supposed to arrive tomorrow, will collide with it and give continuous snow for some now?

There's a BBC report about the situation in Wales here. The bread shelves at Tescos in Aberdare have been totally cleared.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/01/2013 21:33

Gloria, that's a question I really don't know the answer too as I don't understand what has driven this evenings snow to grow to such an extent. You are right, it's just sitting there.

Pigley i'm EG way.

fatsatsuma · 17/01/2013 21:34

It does seem to have come from nowhere! DH's (jokingly) asking why I didn't warn him that it would be snowing when he came out of work this evening as, "I'm supposed to know about the weather!" I said this bit wasn't forecast!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/01/2013 21:39

Perhaps the shells going bare instantly are also down to the timing of the snow. We normally shop on Saturdays but but it forward as I'm not sure we will be able to get there easily. We bought our normal weeks shop though with added junk in case we end up with a trapped teenager

snowflakehellokitty · 17/01/2013 21:42

Let it snow

snowflakehellokitty · 17/01/2013 21:46

In salisbury now amber zone getting up to 4 inches looks like it is starting 7am and going right through Wink
Is this right oyp

hopenglory · 17/01/2013 21:47

Oh, I give up, Kitten, what's the verdict for Devon please. Shall I bother setting the alarm for the morning?

mankyscotslass · 17/01/2013 21:50

I have just watched the forecast on the BBC. Looks like it will be worst here after lunchtime, if it gets heavy at all.

Sparklegeek · 17/01/2013 21:50

Anyone else watching the UK Snowmap twitter feed? It's great! And "Rail Disruptions UK" has just tweeted the SE as in the amber warning too squuuuuueeeeeee for us in Essex!

Helenagrace · 17/01/2013 21:50

Wearesix I'm also in Worthing!!

goldiehorn · 17/01/2013 21:52

I am in a part of the country which according to the met office should be having snow right now, and for the last hour or so. Not one flake has fallen yet.

Am looking out the window every 5 minutes!

Although DH uses some Norweigan website as he reckons that is much more accurate, and that is not saying snow until 1am.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/01/2013 21:52

Blush Mo!!!!

Hopenglory, Devon is tricky!!! I think that away from the border with Cornwall and away plymouth you may well wake up to heavy snow and it will have been going for a few hours (coming in around 2am ish)

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/01/2013 21:54

Snowflake, it's possible it may come in a little earlier, but it does sound about right.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/01/2013 21:57

Manky, I'm afraid at the moment it does look like the bbc might be right, it's part of this whole thing moving south a bit. It looked so promising for you a couple of days ago too.
But, remember that this evenings snow has materialised out of not very much and snow has a habit of doing that, it's probably the hardest thing of all to forecast.

I'm doing snow dances in Gloucestershire! - we had a flurry earlier but it's stopped now! Izzy is only 18 months and has never seen snow before so I'm keeping everything crossed for 'proper' snow!
