well, it looks like winter finally might be arriving!

First indications for snow are for this coming saturday as a low pressure draws in cold air . The met office arent really going for it at the moment, but the potential is certainly there. At the moment I'd say the biggest risk is for the midlands and central England.

After that there seems to be a cold few days but then the models start to disagree. GFS shows a positive snow fest for the 24th! masses of snow, but its a long way off and until we get much closer who knows what really will happen.

Ah v helpful update from Sparkling!

Am off work with poorly 8yo BUT planning to go in for the last lesson today as it is Yr 13's last lesson before their AS resit exam . Dd can sit in corner of classroom on her nintendo for an hour. Knowing that it is slusshy in that neck of the woods is v helpful!

mumat39 · 14/01/2013 11:59

What's the difference between...

Frozen rain and Hail
And
Sleet and Wet snow ?

Just wondering. Hmm

DeafLeopard · 14/01/2013 12:01

Nagoo, I'm in Northants too, big flakes but no sign of melting (nn6)

GloriaSnow · 14/01/2013 12:03

Snow falling steadily here (Leicester). Using DDs Hello Kitty ruler my highly technical measuring device, think we've had 1.5cm so far.

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 14/01/2013 12:09

Well, we were meant to have rain this afternoon but it has just started snowing steadily with big flakes, ds is loving it Grin (south east London)

DialsMavis · 14/01/2013 12:21

Snowing big fat flakes in West London, but no stickage unfortunately

DialsMavis · 14/01/2013 12:22

SIL says its raining up the road in Hammersmith though

NewYearNewNagoo · 14/01/2013 12:29

In last half hour it has started to settle a tiny bit. we have 4cm on the bins but only 1cm on the road.

NewYearNewNagoo · 14/01/2013 12:30

The cat is outside looking MASSIVE and bemused Grin

Is snowing near York - started about 11am and small roads have a bit of snow on now. Have found everyone's wellies Grin.

Think it will probably turn to rain soon and go tbh

fatsatsuma · 14/01/2013 12:42

Here in N Oxon/Warwickshire border it was forecast to rain this morning but in fact has been snowing steadily and heavily at times for over an hour. Roads which had been clear having been gritted before the snow last night are now v slushy. If it gets colder rather than warmer as is forecast this afternoon, the roads are going to be lethal...

DamnDeDoubtance · 14/01/2013 12:43

Ooooo sounds promising that it is snowing in London, it was all supposed to be rain. Keep checking on the rain radar and it is getting closer. Praying to the snow ponies that it will be snow.

archfiend · 14/01/2013 12:47

sparkling fingers crossed for you - forecast currently showing some light snow tonight/tomorrow morning but that's what it said yesterday and it failed to turn up. Still chucking it down here.

DamnDeDoubtance · 14/01/2013 12:48

Just checked and East Kent is now showing heavy snow for the early hours of tomorrow, it was light this morning.

fedupwithdeployment · 14/01/2013 12:52

In Hammersmith we have big flakes, but nothing settling.

LouiseFisher · 14/01/2013 12:57

It's FREEZING OUT THERE! well up in Manchester anyway. My advice is to wrap up warm. In terms of the snow, it snowed last night and stuck a little, but nothing major. 2 Minutes of rain will certainly clean it up so it's not hazardous as yet, however, I believe it will snow further.

archfiend · 14/01/2013 13:08

And now the sun is out gives up

DialsMavis · 14/01/2013 13:10

Why go to all the bother of snowing if you are not even going to settle anywhere Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 14/01/2013 13:12

Yes arch it's sunny! Yay!

LillethTheCat · 14/01/2013 13:15

Snowed a bit last night in North Yorks and a bit more this morning, but that's it so far. A Couple of the weather reports seem to think we will get a bit of light snow this evening, but not again until the weekend. It can snow as much as likes from Fri afternoon (Id like to get to the Supermarket on Fri Morn first).

Thanks for the updates Kitten and others letting us know how its going where you are.
