well, it looks like winter finally might be arriving!

First indications for snow are for this coming saturday as a low pressure draws in cold air . The met office arent really going for it at the moment, but the potential is certainly there. At the moment I'd say the biggest risk is for the midlands and central England.

After that there seems to be a cold few days but then the models start to disagree. GFS shows a positive snow fest for the 24th! masses of snow, but its a long way off and until we get much closer who knows what really will happen.

Not a flake in Norfolk (well apart from me ! )

Don't want any for next two days , have to get up at 4am to drive to work for 6.30 and have NO desire to be slithering about at all .

TheWoollybacksWife · 13/01/2013 23:05

Deaf It is now snowing in Northants! If you count about 6 flakes. DD's secondary school will also close because of transport arrangements. DS's primary school will be the last in the county to admit defeat Grin

IamtheZombie · 13/01/2013 23:15

South Shropshire is now faintly white.

Zombie is happy.

Grin
Whojamaflip · 14/01/2013 06:06

SNOW!

Enough to make everything lovely and white (about 1") Grin but not enough for a snow day - boo Sad

JillJ72 · 14/01/2013 06:12

Have woken up to a light dusting in north Bucks (Mary Berry would be proud). D'S very eager for a snow day but it won't happen! Local forecast is unpredictable, saying snow or sleet or snow etc.... It has been changing constantly so it will be a case of using the view from the window as my cue!

stargirl1701 · 14/01/2013 06:22

It's snowing in Perth & Kinross!

DeafLeopard · 14/01/2013 06:29

Wooly sounds like we have may have a school in common. Nothing on the council website to say anything is closed ATM.

TobyLerone · 14/01/2013 06:31

It's snowing steadily in my part of Kent, but it's only laid on the cars so far. The children will be very disappointed :(

TheSkiingGardener · 14/01/2013 06:33

No snow here. South west Hampshire and we're always the last.

Those of you with snow, build a snowman for me will you?

mankyscotslass · 14/01/2013 06:45

The snow seems to have stopped just after I went to bed, we only have a light dusting. I feel cheated. Sad

Molepom · 14/01/2013 06:51

I'm constantly checking for dd's school as her school closes almost everytime it snows, but nothing today so far. It's early yet so I'm still hoping. Ds's school never closes.

Tell a lie, it closed for 1 day when we had all that snow a couple of years back, everywhere else was closed.

usualsuspect · 14/01/2013 06:53

We have snow! not loads but it's all white out there.

I'm in Leicester.

Saltire · 14/01/2013 06:57

Well no snow in my part of north yorkshire... well a very very light covering is on the cars.
According to Met office it is coming our way this morning, but I for one am not getting over excited

SpottyTeacakes · 14/01/2013 06:58

We've got about half an inch in West Sussex

alibobins · 14/01/2013 07:08

We probably have 2 inches everything is covered I'm right on the Notts/Derby border.
I've got too much to do this week for snow including at treck to Great Ormand street tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2013 07:11

A light covering on cars and grass. Looking at the precip we have an awful lot of rain and sleet coming this way later. Not unexpected but yuk.

ArkadyRose · 14/01/2013 07:16

About an inch settled here in east London last night. Melted on the roads & pavements, but still there on the cars and our back garden is all white (to DD3's delight).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2013 07:18

Areas most likely to get snow this afternoon are Bedfordshire and northwards to Yorkshire. Also east Anglia. Most of the rest of us will see heavy rain or sleet.

Unfortunately where temps drop away later there will obv be an ice problem through into tomorrow.

OP posts:
Molepom · 14/01/2013 07:19

Ice is going to be a major problem over the next few days.

takeaway2 · 14/01/2013 07:23

East Kent! Snow about an inch or so. No closures. For once...!

thanksamillion · 14/01/2013 07:24

You are all welcome to my snow! It's been on the ground since mid December and shows no sign of disappearing Sad.

We may (if we're lucky) get above freezing in the day time tomorrow! (I'm in Moldova btw)

MirandaWest · 14/01/2013 07:34

There is a tiny bit of snow on the car and on the grass near York. I feel a little cheated Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2013 07:40

Thanksamillion, how does this winter compare to previous winters in Moldova?

Looking ahead, away from eastern coastal counties GFS has our next big chance of snow on Friday. Which personally would be rather bad timing! ECMWF maybe has a bit tomorrow but is going for Saturday as the next big chance and UKMO is going for Friday night/Saturday. So some sort of consistency going on there!

thanksamillion · 14/01/2013 07:46

Well it snowed earlier and heavier than normal in December, and December was definitely colder than previous years (we've lived here for five years). The forecast (I'm using accuweather.com) is for it to be a tiny bit warmer in the next week or so where normally Jan is colder than December.

Last year it didn't snow until mid to late Jan which was very unusual and caused loads of problems because the ground froze very deeply (normally insulated by the snow) and lots of people (including us) had frozen pipes. Ours froze at the start of Feb and didn't defrost until the start of April Hmm

PestoFrostissimos · 14/01/2013 07:47

A teeny bit here (outskirts of Brighton) Smile

But

Not enough to get the sledges out [ungrateful emoticon]
