well, it looks like winter finally might be arriving!

First indications for snow are for this coming saturday as a low pressure draws in cold air . The met office arent really going for it at the moment, but the potential is certainly there. At the moment I'd say the biggest risk is for the midlands and central England.

After that there seems to be a cold few days but then the models start to disagree. GFS shows a positive snow fest for the 24th! masses of snow, but its a long way off and until we get much closer who knows what really will happen.

Hi Sassy, at the moment it is coming down but quite light. Some is settling but not much.

sassytheFIRST · 13/01/2013 21:42

Hmmm. Thanks. Jury's out on potential snow day tomorrow then!

StairsInTheNight · 13/01/2013 21:42

Met office is now showing snow in SE london next 4 days, or snow showers at least.

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2013 21:44

Yes, I think there is heavier stuff due overnight though. Sad

mankyscotslass · 13/01/2013 21:55

Very heavy snow here now. I am off to bed, it better not disappear before morning!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2013 21:58

Ppp, it looks like it will be snow overnight but tomorrow afternoon it will be revoltingly wet. The centre of the low pressure is a little further north than modelled earlier and hence the south east and central southern england will be in the warm sector. You can see it here look for the position of the warm front.

nannynick · 13/01/2013 22:04

None here on Surrey/Berks border but UKSnowMap is showing some reports of light snow in Hampshire, so it's coming my way. Wonder if the warm front will turn it into rain.

MirandaWest · 13/01/2013 22:10

Something white is falling out of the sky near York....

mybootsaremuddy · 13/01/2013 22:12

Just leaving my friends house in south wiltshire, its trying to snow but not quite managing more than a few feble tiny flakes.... pretty pathetic realy.

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2013 22:14

Oh it has stopped. For now anyway.........

Tortoise · 13/01/2013 22:16

oh well, just watched local weather and looks like we're in for heavy rain Sad

2gorgeousboys · 13/01/2013 22:16

It's been snowing lightly since about 3pm in this part of North Yorkshire but not settling.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 13/01/2013 22:16

Snowing here in South Derbyshire. Enough to whiten cars and roofs so far.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2013 22:19

Manky Envy I keep peering out and nada. :(
Nannynck it won't turn this lot into rain but tomorrow afternoons precip is a separate front which is the warm one.

OP posts:
Follyfoot · 13/01/2013 22:20

Snowing here in the Derbyshire Dales. Wish I still worked from home Sad

PeneloPeePitstop · 13/01/2013 22:23

Thanks Smile

EndoplasmicReticulum · 13/01/2013 22:27

Still lightly dusting here, although local weather for tomorrow looks like we might be wet instead. Bah.

Also, I'd rather it snowed overnight so I get snowed in at home, rather than during the day so I get snowed in at work.

McPhee · 13/01/2013 22:28

Dd, 6 months, would like some snow please. Grin

SE Hants!?

PeneloPeePitstop · 13/01/2013 22:34

Still hoping against hope all that rain falls as snow though Smile
If it's going to be a skating rink it may as well be pretty.

MoppingMummy · 13/01/2013 22:36

Snow's been falling here (west midlands ) for past 2.5hs. Thin layer has settled on road & cars!!

GossipWitch · 13/01/2013 22:44

small snow flakes to be seen here in leicestershire

thekidsrule · 13/01/2013 22:47

getting very fed up of ever changing snow or rain predictions

live very very far south i fear we will miss out again

you could say im bitter Smile

DeafLeopard · 13/01/2013 22:47

Nothing in Northants yet.

DS' school usually closes as they have lots of students bussed in from the villages, DD's Head prides himself on not closing with a stark warning that any child not in school will be marked as unauthorised absence, so DD is going to be so cross if she is dragged a mile through the snow while DS lies in bed.

DialsMavis · 13/01/2013 22:51

Our forecast (west London) is now showing sleet overnight, then sunshine tomorrow Confused Hmm

TheWoollybacksWife · 13/01/2013 23:04

Deaf It is now snowing in Northants! If you count about 6 flakes. DD's secondary school will also close because of transport arrangements. DS's primary school will be the last in the county to admit defeat Grin
