Massive warning at the start of this thread. I'm not a qualified meteorologist, just a very keen amateur. I do frequently get things wrong and sometimes I miss things when life gets very busy (which it is rather atm) But, I'll do my best to give people a heads up to snow forecasts as we get them, as long as you all promise not to sue/hate me when it all goes horribly wrong.

So first area to highlight is the western side of Scotland including the highlands and part of central Scotland. Met office have warnings Sunday/into Monday

Also very worth being aware that towards the end of this week, hilly parts of northern England including the Pennines (and perhaps welsh hills too?) may well get some snow by the end of the working week.

Snow has arrived in Stirling! About a couple of cms overnight

brawhen · 10/12/2011 07:54

redlac you beat me to it! I'm also looking at snowy Stirling.

Glad it's the weekend. Actually quite looking forward to a bit of a snow shovelling when sun up Smile

GloriaSmud · 10/12/2011 07:57

Still no snow here
Have lovely frost though; everything has a white coating so in the absence of the falling white stuff, that'll have to do!

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 10/12/2011 08:10

Well, first Christmas forecast from me.......

Mildish for most - damp but not showing too stormy at least. Snow only on Scottish hills.
Will see how it changes Xmas Wink

Loads of snow today near Falkirk.

PuffOfSmoke · 10/12/2011 09:08

Please stop snowing! You have out stayed your welcome here - there is plenty other people who want to see you!

Hulababy · 10/12/2011 09:11

Snow on the ground here in Sheffield, snowed on and off yesterday. But there's not loads. Hoping for no more!

HighHeidYin · 10/12/2011 09:11

Wow you are right - lots of snow! Looks pretty atm.

mankyscotslass · 10/12/2011 10:42

No snow here - no real frost either.

We have had heavy hail/sleet showers on and off all morning.

Labradorlover · 10/12/2011 11:04

Frost last night and a wee covering of snow that's now melting, Edinburgh.
Had been invited up north to Moray this weekend. But decided not to chance the A9.

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 10/12/2011 17:55

Much colder today - been out all afternoon in temps of 2C and utterly underdressed for it (thought I was going to be out for half an hour!)

updated met office warnings all for winds with the next associated low. It's quite possible that the warning area will move further north though - I still dont think the models have settled down. as for the next one....which looks to be on friday - it looks very nasty but seems to have Scotland/northern england in its firing lines (again)

heavy rain tomorrow for many - but I guess that the pennines may see it as snow....

It's been cold here all day - the thermometer peaked at 3C, but we have had sleet/hail showers on and off all day. Miserable all round really.

And more of the same to come - I just hope Friday's dosen't interfere with youngest Mankys' Nativity Play.

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 10/12/2011 22:35

It is looking a pretty concerning scenario this week: The storm system Monday/Tuesday looks potent for first the SW and then the north. Then Friday. A long way off but at the moment the storm looks stronger than last weeks. At the moment Scotland looks most at risk but the track is still uncertain. All I can say is be prepared and if your property has suffered damage then I would do your utmost to effect repairs asap.

I've created a storm thread to try and keep things in a place that is easily found. Will try to keep this thread more snow related.

Snowykitten (sorry you'll always be that to me!)

How am I looking for flying into Stansted on Friday teatime? Xmas Grin

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 11/12/2011 14:45
Xmas Smile

As it looks at the moment, I think that theres quite a strong likelihood of there being some disruptions. I think though we need to wait a couple of more days until the path of the storm is really nailed down.

Thank you!

(is it really bad of me to quite enjoy the drama every year of not quite knowing if I'm going to land, and stocking up on sandwichesready to sleep on the airport floor!)

bilblio · 11/12/2011 18:53

Bucharest - I get the same feeling every year but we only have to cross the pennines. we're never sure when, where or with who we'll celebrate.

It all adds to the excitement. :o

TheHumancatapult · 12/12/2011 05:31

yikes I hope not a sim moving and am only few miles from Stansted so bucharest if gets to bad it still be floor but least a bit warmer

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 12/12/2011 13:30

Keeping a bit of an eye on the possibility of a reasonable amount of snow over Scotland at the end of this week - but with the storm potential being so complicated tis a bit impossible to really determine what will happen.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadReindeer · 12/12/2011 13:36

Interestingly - perusing some of the weather forums some people are interpreting the latest models outputs as having the potential to be very nasty friday in the south. So just a reminder to people - I am only an amateur - please dont make decisions that may affect your safety on the basis of my forecast discussions. Use official channels like the met office for that.

midnightexpress · 12/12/2011 13:46

The papers today are talking about snow for Scotland from Weds Sad, -10C, cold for 10 days and thundersnow (whatever that might be).

Enough with the weather already...

midnightexpress · 12/12/2011 13:48

And yes, Met Office have moved their yellow warning for Fri to further south. It was including Strathclyde and now isn't . Yeay!

redlac · 12/12/2011 13:48

really midnight? oh heck!

midnightexpress · 12/12/2011 13:49

I know, though it was only a shock-horror tabloid headline that I glanced at in the supermarket, so I reckon OYBBK's forecasts are more reliable. Grin
