Seeing as the weekend weather forecast for us here in the Midlands is so 'up in the air' (the forecasters aren't sure how far north this weather front with its snow will get so we've got 'there might be snow showers but keep tuned to the TV/radio'), I thought it was worth starting a thread to see what weather everyone actually gets.

It's dry and frosty at the moment here in Leicester.

Good planning Ducky :)

sarahfreck · 18/12/2010 22:10

snow chains for shoes sound wonderful. There seem to be lots of different brands on Amazon. Any thoughts on the best brand to buy?

BlathIceSkate · 18/12/2010 22:22

Well so much for Milton Keynes getting a 'light snow shower' at 3pm! It started snowing at 11am and didn't finish until around 6pm! DH has just been out an measured it and we got 8 inches!!

We're supposed to be going to Northampton tomorrow but at the moment, I'm not sure it's worth it just for lunch at SILs.

My Tesco order is for Tuesday so I'm hoping it'll all be gone again by then as the drivers won't come out in this.

Still slightly worried about getting to South Yorks on Friday but I guess we just have to wait and see how things go

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 22:27

yaktrax pro - they are brilliant sarahfreck - I can't wait to stride about in them confidently tomorrow.

oops blath - that is a fair bit!

BlathIceSkate · 18/12/2010 22:31

It just kept coming! We had some very strong winds too. DS is almost 4 and was desperate for Daddy to take him outside but the wind was blowing the snow into his face and he came back in tears Sad

A local friend took 3 hours to do 1 junction on the M1 today. Really not fancying Northampton now! It's only 1 junction but 3 hours stuck with a 1 year old and a 3 year old in a car just for lunch doesn't seem worth it!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 22:33

no, I agree, that would be an utter nightmare!

sarahfreck · 18/12/2010 23:08

Phew - struggled to find any yaktrax pro that in a small size that weren't a ridiculous price but finally found some for just under £25 inc P&P

Morning all - off to look at the models. From the radar I can see that the eastern side of scotland is plagued again. Can also see precipitation blocking out cornwa,, and maybe some of Devon. I suspect some of that is rain.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 19/12/2010 08:20

ok for today it looks like a good part of scotland will be having snow with the north west and south west of scotland being least prone.

Showers once again down the eastern side of the northern half of England - perhaps reaching parts of EA. Looks like a Thames streamer tries to set up for a bit - bringing in a little snow along the thames estuary and a bit in.
Now Kent Sussex are a bit tricky - the rain in the channel looks like it just moves into this area this afternoon. To what extend it will manage I'm not sure but it looks like snow if it does.

I'm going to talk about the up coming week in the will it snow at Christmas thread

rosieposey · 19/12/2010 08:20

Morning OYSSK no snow forecast here for us today (N Wilts) is there anything on the horizon snow-wise coming during the week?

Blimey its cold though! -7 here last night. Really want to go sledging today but DH has been put off driving after sliding into a police car yesterday!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 19/12/2010 08:36

Morning rosie - can I refer you to the christmas thread please Xmas Smile it will be easier if I keep the coming week in one place as there is a lot to think about with it.

winterpetunia · 19/12/2010 08:37

Morning all,
Another bright and frosty morning here in Leicester; no snow forecast for today. Our 5 day forecast on the metoffice is giving us 'light snow' for Wednesday night and Thursday at the moment. Is this is a sign of more to come later in the week?

Marne · 19/12/2010 09:37

Looks like we might be getting more snow early tomorrow in Dorset?

I must try and get to a shop today as i am short on gass and running out of food.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 19/12/2010 12:25

kent and sussex warnings looks like that area of precip in the channel will cause a few problems]]

PositiveAttitude · 19/12/2010 14:03

Isle of Wight - forecast was a bright sunny day!! (weather forecast on sky news this morning)
Fact - heavy snow fall since 10.00!!!!

Why are they getting it all so wrong? By the way, this is not a moan, just a serious question. Surely they could see it coming up here???

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 19/12/2010 14:06

Silly sky news - I have no idea how they could have forecast a sunny day its pretty bloody obvious if they had even vaguely glanced at the radar that it wouldn't be.
I have no idea how they could have got that wrong tbh - was one of the easier bits of the country to forecast today.
