Seeing as the weekend weather forecast for us here in the Midlands is so 'up in the air' (the forecasters aren't sure how far north this weather front with its snow will get so we've got 'there might be snow showers but keep tuned to the TV/radio'), I thought it was worth starting a thread to see what weather everyone actually gets.

It's dry and frosty at the moment here in Leicester.

Marne ~ are you covered here? Think you might get snow showers at times today.

Great line of snow stretching from Liverpool down to the south coast at the moment! Just needs to move very slightly towards us and Leicester could get some. It isn't that far away at the moment and the sky looking westwards has that 'heavy with snow' look about it!

wel we have woken up to an inch of snow, still falling on and off. have checked metcheck, met office and bbc weather, and more is predicted here (cheltenham). what u reckon OYSSK? more in store for me?

mankyscotslass · 18/12/2010 11:04

Sob! Not fair!

mumto2andnomore · 18/12/2010 11:09

Im in Leicester too, jut had a couple of flakes but its stopped again now :( Stay safe everyone

SleightiesChick · 18/12/2010 11:17

what's it like along the M6 corridor between the north west and the Midlands?

badgerhead · 18/12/2010 11:17

Stopped here now (West Sussex) but dh took dd1 to work in Crawley, from Horsham & it took twice as long as normal & then turning back into our road slid & hit the local butchers van on the door. Thankfully no injuries & no damage to my car but dent in van door Sad. I have just rung Sitters to say I'm not prepared to sit tonight as family out in a village which is not easy to get to & I don't trust the road surfaces.

MegGriffin · 18/12/2010 11:22

The warnings have gone to red for some areas in the south now on met office.

nearlytoolate · 18/12/2010 11:24

Well we hve set offand a1 clear so far - just passed wetherby aiming for nottm. More worried we won't get back tomorrow! But my theory is vindicated - big media fuss about weather=snow in London and southeast!

nicolamumof3 · 18/12/2010 11:43

Heavy chunky flakes falling in west Kent to about an hour now

goingroundthebend4 · 18/12/2010 12:23

Heavy snow coming down now near Stansted Airport and it's laying

mychatnickname · 18/12/2010 12:26

Wow it's really coming down now. Interesting (well to me as a weather geek) as it snowed moderately for 2 hours and left maybe a cm but then has tipped it down for 20 minutes so far and there must be 4 cm already.

Can't see it stopping anytime soon - we're in a red zone on the Met office chart.

moonmother · 18/12/2010 12:26

Heavy Snow in Dunstable Bedfordshire- we 've been given a red weather warning.

My Dc's are at their Dads, trying to hopefully get them home this afternoon before the worst hits.

Please be careful out there, we've only a small amount of lying snow at the moment but it's covering black ice. I've just gone arse over head (literally) on the way home from shopping.

I'm now sporting a very sore bottom and head.Sad

BlathIceSkate · 18/12/2010 13:03

It's been falling steadily in MK for over an hour now. Big, chunky flakes that are covering everything.

BBC said light snow at around 3pm so they were well out.

ethelinaTheBloodyGreatXmasElf · 18/12/2010 13:09

Blizzard conditions over Romney Marsh for about an hour or two. Just seen a big flash of lightning as well...
DH has spent the morning chopping wood so we ddont have to use oil Xmas Smile

winterpetunia · 18/12/2010 13:24

Have a few flakes falling now (Leicester)

moonmother · 18/12/2010 13:24

Whiteout just hit Dunstable.

Have had about 2 inches of snow fall in the past hour and half.

Met O saying we've a few hours to go yet Shock

This could be the most snow I've ever seen here ...

SleightiesChick · 18/12/2010 13:32

Have cancelled my trip Xmas Sad - the hotel actually rang and said we would not be able to get there and said they would waive the cancellation charge. Nice to see people being fair and helpful. Xmas Smile

SleepingLion · 18/12/2010 13:36

Inch and a half this morning here in Worcester and is snowing heavily again now - maybe 2 inches now? No sign of stopping! Just relieved that term has ended and we don't have to commute for a couple of weeks (both teachers).

SleepingLion · 18/12/2010 13:39

Real whiteout, moonmother?? Don't go outside! Apparently people have been lost in their own gardens during a whiteout, unable to see their door (hazily remembers reading The Long Winter as a child).

Chandon · 18/12/2010 13:48

I still have "the long winter", it's great Grin

Chandon · 18/12/2010 13:48

mind you, we're not on the prairie here Wink

SleighdyBellian · 18/12/2010 13:50

Well, first part of our four-stage people-arriving-for-Christmas has been scuppered as niece unable to get to central Oxford for the bus. She's going to try again Monday, whichis also supposed to be when nephew is travelling up from Plymouth.

Badkitten next time you stop by, how do you rate their chances of getting to London? I was a bit taken aback by the Oxford problem as I had thought the snow was going to be mostly in the SW and had been using my energy to worry about that. Parents also coming up from N Cornwall on Weds.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 13:56

London today? Very slim if I am honest. Some severe problems both on the motorways and on the trains.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 14:03

Have you seen the Virgin Plane that is literally stuck on the runway at heathrow.
