Saturday/Sunday weather...

Seeing as the weekend weather forecast for us here in the Midlands is so 'up in the air' (the forecasters aren't sure how far north this weather front with its snow will get so we've got 'there might be snow showers but keep tuned to the TV/radio'), I thought it was worth starting a thread to see what weather everyone actually gets.

It's dry and frosty at the moment here in Leicester.

Hmm still not started. I have this thing where if I have to put the lights on inside to work or read it's about to rain (or snow in this case) and it's like that now but it's not started yet.

Having a first one to spot a snowflake competition with ds Grin

mychatnickname · 18/12/2010 08:48

p.s. OYSSK is it mainly South of London expecting snow or up North too?

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 08:49

mostly south - but looks like it will get into the High wycombe area too later.

goingroundthebend4 · 18/12/2010 08:50

onimolap · 18/12/2010 08:50

We have started our pre-Christmas circuit of relatives; currently just outside Cambridge, very light snow lying ( roads clear), and quite bright - some blue sky showing 0900 hours, Saturday).

MegGriffin · 18/12/2010 08:50

I have been avidly watching kitten, we are all very excited and so not over the snow yet.

I appreciate your information and always check your threads first. Everyone knows who you are in my house and DH has in the past said "see what oybk is saying" when we talk about the weather! Grin

mankyscotslass · 18/12/2010 08:52

Looks like we have had all we are due to get.

TinselinaBumSquash · 18/12/2010 08:52

The flakes are huge here and coming quite thick and fast. Sad

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 09:04
Blush

manky - I would agree with you.

We have heavy snow - getting untravelable very quickly.

mychatnickname · 18/12/2010 09:07

OYSSK, why don't you set up a Facebook page (can be done anonymously) and we will all become fans and spread the word. Then when you do your course and want a job as a forecaster you will be in a really good position to impress future employers?

Or maybe MNHQ can make you official forecaster (with the usual caveats)??

6 inches in an hour last night. But no more since. South Cumbria.

Are we due any more?

SproutsMakeTortoiseFart · 18/12/2010 09:23

Any forecast for Somerset today? Have about 8-10cm at the moment.

arionater · 18/12/2010 09:27

I'm in North London. A few centimetres on the ground from last night. Not snowing now but really looks like it will soon.

fatsatsuma · 18/12/2010 09:33

Here in N Oxfordshire it's been snowing for about an hour. Started off light but is now heavy and persistent. We have been hovering on the edge of the forecast snow over the last 48 hours but our local forecast is now saying snow all day.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 09:41

If I don't get back to you quite quickly please forgive me. Quite a lot on today.

arionater · 18/12/2010 09:53

Just started snowing in North London. Brr.

stnikkilarse1978 · 18/12/2010 09:58

Starting to come down here quite hard (Croydon). DH left 10 mins ago in the car to drive 7 miles to get snow tyres fitted. Not sure he will make it there at all - although it is all main roads. Fingers are crossed here! If we get the tyres on hopefully we can go and see Santa later as I spent £15 on tickets and the kids are excited about it.

Fingers crossed peeps :)

I am hoping and praying there will be better travel conditions by Tuesday at the latest. I have so much stuff to pick up for xmas. My nerves can't take all this not knowing!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 10:02

mychat - I'll have a think about it - I'd be worried that I'm overselling myself rather - here you all know I'm an amateur.

nymph - I think you might get some more - it is still even now difficult to have any certainty. Not known anything like it for difficulty in forecasting. No warnings for you after 11 - but the weather models do show some more.

nymphadora · 18/12/2010 10:08

Thanks!

Last nights wasn't predicted & we took an hour to drive 10 miles on the main rd. Luckily wewere coming back from the supermarket so if all else fails we are pretty stocked up for a coupleof weeks!

PositiveAttitude · 18/12/2010 10:13

We had quite a bit first thing this morning (on the Isle of Wight), but not enough still. Sad Seems to be getting cloudy again though, after an hour of lovely bright sunshine.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 10:17

back later all :)

teddymummy · 18/12/2010 10:21

falling heavily here in S Oxon. just had a scary drive home from shop. All stocked up now and roads here nearly unpassable unless you have a 4x4. we don't!!

Marne · 18/12/2010 10:25

Woke up to a few inches in North Dorset, does anyone know if we will be getting anymore?

My mum is going to try and get here today (she's not driving far), the roads here have not been cleared and only 4x4's seem to be getting out of our road.

mistletoeploppy · 18/12/2010 10:34

Woke up to a few inches here in Winchester too, then a bit more fell but it's stopped now.

The flakes were really big and fluffy and messy, not dusty like the snow we had a few weeks ago.

I really want to get out of our road (gravel, steep) and see what the main roads are like, but don't dare!

We're supposed to fly from Southampton to Glasgow tomorrow, fingers crossed. Southampton Airport is closed 'til at least 2pm today
