i will decide thursday.

piratecatClaus · 14/12/2010 20:59

saltire yes it is a page of german, but in the top lefthand corner there is a link for Bracknell, then you can click the hours.

then you get something from a Philips Atlas, which i couldn't understand first time round.

oybbk is ver brainy!

laughalot · 14/12/2010 21:01

Grin thanks

Horton · 14/12/2010 21:01

Horton - likely to get significant snowfall with the risk starting friday on.

Thank you!

It is good to know these things. I will make sure that we have emergency Christmas supplies in, in case we have to turn round and come home.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 14/12/2010 21:01

MSLP is the means sea level pressure. It shows surface level features (lows and what nots - you also get upper lows - the atmosphere is 3d)

Thickness shows the distance vertically in the atmosphere between two different (but specified) pressures. It gives an idea of how cold it is up there because cold air is denser so the thickness is less (also related to humidity) It is often used to give an idea of snow likelihood.

ok , got to persuade dd to bed.

fatsatsuma · 14/12/2010 21:02

Kitten, the BBC and Met Office are forecasting sleet/light snow for Thurs and Fri here in N oxon/Warwks border. Much tho' I would like to believe them (only because we have to do some major travelling, not because I don't like snow Grin), I'm not sure I do believe them.

Is it just too early to tell?

PS Are you getting weary of everyone asking you to give them personalised forecasts?? We love you Snowy Kitten Grin

Horton · 14/12/2010 21:05

Honestly, how stupid am I to book a flight on Christmas Eve?!

WilfShelf · 14/12/2010 21:09

eeek at those German weathercharts. So a big clump of close packed isobars shooting down supercooled air from the Northpole huh? With only a slight shift to NWly by Friday evening?

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 14/12/2010 21:15

oh for fucks, fucking sake Xmas Angry

sarahfreck · 14/12/2010 21:18

We've just been up (down?) graded from heavy snow to light snow for Friday in NW England. Why is that then and could it go back to being a heavy snow forecast?

WilfShelf · 14/12/2010 21:20

Did I offend you apocalypsecheese?! Grin Or is it just the snow...?

sarahfreck · 14/12/2010 21:21

Ooh - light snow according to BBC website and Heavy snow according to Met Office - Who to believe?!!! Xmas Confused

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 14/12/2010 21:26

met office for sure sarahfreck! tend to be way more accurate than bbc.

sort of wilf :) definitely arctic in origin!

fatsatsuma, not weary just a bit conflicted cos I'd quite like to settle down with a beer and Holby! dh is commuting - (just started, used to work 10 minutes away) and this week it seems that there just isn't enough time! By the time he gets in (hasnt tonight -) and I've got everyhting ready for the next day it only seems like 5 mins til the alarm is going off and another day starts.

I think the actual snow fall for your area will probably not amount to very much on thursday - the front moves so very fast. It will be the rain which will freeze over. Then The snow risk is there from friday on with saturday being a particular concern.

oh - dh is arriving. best say hello to him!

giraffesCantDanceOnAllThisSnow · 14/12/2010 21:32

bbc always wrong for weather imo

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 14/12/2010 21:35

alright I'll be back in the morning - I'm having a beer now (blandford fly - very nice for winter - gingery). See you all in the morning :)

Mistymoo · 14/12/2010 21:43

SnowyKitten I haven't read whole thread but wondered what your thoughts were for North of Inverness. We often get weather which is forcast for the west despite being on the east coast. We are also slightly sheltered by Ben Wyvis which is to the west of us.

harecare · 14/12/2010 22:19

I hope you enjoyed your beer!
I'm due to go to Kielder Winter Wonderland on the weekend. It was cancelled the weekend before last. What is the likelihood of that happening again? Travelling from Newcastle on Saturday morning. Kielder is close to Hexham.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 14/12/2010 22:39

Both. Fucking twatty, evil, icy DUST

Horton · 14/12/2010 22:43

Hope you enjoyed your beer, Kitten. Thanks for your thoughts.

WilfShelf · 14/12/2010 22:47

Look, AC, it will get everyone in a state of hysteria, and then all turn out to be a minor wet patch with some warm fog. Meanwhile, supermarkets will sell out of bread and milk, shovel manufacturers will wet their pants and sledge sellers will praise the lord. Many headteachers will hope for a lie in, and it will all come to nought.

Either that or we're DOOOOOOOOMED...

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 14/12/2010 23:04

I don't mind snow, it's the fucking ice, last time we got bout an inch of snow, which froze and it was a nightmare, we got our bins emptied today for the first time in a month. And they didn't even take the recycling Xmas Sad
