OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 16/12/2010 08:38

Good luck Howto :) is it pretty?

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 16/12/2010 08:39

Well, we still have unmelted snow let from last time that has gone dingy, so not really Grin I was hoping for some thundersnow again, I really enjoyed that.

winterpetunia · 16/12/2010 08:39

OYSSK ~ what do you mean 'the front could get quite lively as it moves through the midlands?'

It's quite windy here (Leicester) at the moment; which is something I wasn't expecting.

SantaClausImWorthIt · 16/12/2010 08:40

Right. I'm off to buy the Christmas tree and stock up on essentials like wine bread and milk as well as finish my Christmas shopping this morning!

Thank you for all the warnings, news and updates, OYBBK!

ledodgy · 16/12/2010 08:44

OOh thankyou. Grin It is very very windy as well...

GentleOtter · 16/12/2010 08:50

We have had snow through the night and the wind is very wild. The sky is really dark in a way that tells you it is going to dump tons of snow all at once.

I went out in my nightie, first thing this morning, to get coffee from the car and all I am going to say it was not the best idea.

patienceplease · 16/12/2010 08:56

Gentleotter where are you?

ledodgy · 16/12/2010 08:57

ROFL Gentle Otter have you got frost bitten bits? Grin

GentleOtter · 16/12/2010 08:58

In Highland Perthshire, patience.

Snowy, blizzardy, freezing Highland Perthshire.

patienceplease · 16/12/2010 09:01

Sad poor you gentle otter - just wanted to know how far down it had got... I've got a 3 hour journey later but from south coast towards welsh borders so I'm hoping its moving slowly - bbc forecast just watched seems to say I'll get wet rather than snowed on....

Jacaqueen · 16/12/2010 09:07

This is a fantastic thread.

I'm in the West Falkirk area.

Last night was very mild around 6 deg and we woke to heavy rain. We have just had a shower of icy snow/hail and the temp has dropped to just above zero.

goingroundthebend4 · 16/12/2010 09:11

Down in east herts it is raining rather heavy now.No wind to speak of and fairly mild temptures. No frost either , since I'm only 5 miles from Stansted airport is good new for anyone flying in to there

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 16/12/2010 09:26

Shock Gentleotter - brrrrr....

The cold front is as many people are noticing preluded by lots of rain. It does seem that it may stay that way, right until the back edge of the front where it is sleet/snow. This may change though as it reaches southern counties.

the real risk is for the sheet ice that will occur later.

Radar shows lots of snow showers for the northern half of Scotland, this will also be the case later and tonight for the west.

lively=squally, very windy, sleety, not so sure about graupel now as the rain is mostly on the warm side of the cold front. Perhaps some thunder.

itsTwiiiiitmaaaaasss · 16/12/2010 09:27

Congratulations TheUnmentioned on your popular thread.
Herefordshire;
very dark, I actually wondered if I had got up an hour early to be honest.Xmas Grin

wind (average 3.2) but is a 'warm' wind and at about 9 am it started to spit and is now lightly drizzling. Does 171 S mean anything to you? Confused
Temp is 5.1
windchill is 4.1. 'Tis balmy
barometer is 1037.0 falling rapidly.

Thanks to this thread I am now slighlty obssessed. And I have forgotten how to spell obssessed/obsessed gah!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 16/12/2010 09:29

171 s? sounds like wind direction except there aren't any SWS winds.

ooo, Thomas Schafenaker just saying upgrading flash warnings to include snow for some.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 16/12/2010 09:31

updated warnings to include drifing snow for NI and parts of Scotland.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 16/12/2010 09:31

Right, 30 mins house work then back :)

ledodgy · 16/12/2010 09:34

OMg the wind and the rain is terrible here now. I'm so glad i am inside!

itsTwiiiiitmaaaaasss · 16/12/2010 09:34

yes, I thought that too, it says wind bearing, so I guess it is South. Hmm Like I said it felt pretty warm (comparatively speaking)
Who and where is Thomas Schafenaker?

mychatnickname · 16/12/2010 09:36

This is SO exciting. Absolutely love this thread!

Keep those local updates coming.

Hertfordshire here - gloomy skies. Not that cold. 5degrees c on the school run.

sephrenia · 16/12/2010 09:36

We've just had a nicely heavy sleet and snow shower here in Leeds that finished about 5 minutes ago Xmas Grin

Is there more of the same for Leeds today or is it pretty clear kitten?

Bucharest · 16/12/2010 09:38
mankyscotslass · 16/12/2010 09:38

Still raining here, its a bit miserable!

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 16/12/2010 09:40

Im in coastal Angus. We have had a tiny dusting of snow, which has melted now. Clear blue skies with a biting cold wind/
