lol Unmentioned!1 It was a good thread to start.

flash warnings

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 16/12/2010 06:48

looking at the radar I think the front could get quite lively as it moves through the midlands. Very interesting!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 16/12/2010 07:08

Thomas Schafernaker was a bit Shock in what he said on r4 a few minutes ago despite me knowing what is coming. He said there will be disruption and people will get stuck. he warned of the possibility of nationwide heavy snow on Saturday. He is normally a pretty level headed weather forecaster.

so, without wishing to sound alarmist, might be worth finishing off your shopping today or tomorrow if you can!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 16/12/2010 07:11

Christmas warm up barely happens too as well on the latest gfs.

blimey.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 16/12/2010 07:16

twitmas - Your dh will see some snow I am sure and some of it looks to be heavy. Perhaps in the form of heavy showers instead of prolonged snow.

WilfShelf · 16/12/2010 07:26

Right. Weather station pressure dropping here (NW Midlands), and wind and squally rain. Temps still UP on previous days...

Watching with interest.

ProfYaffle · 16/12/2010 07:30

We've got the school disco tonight. Thanks to this thread I have Mums with land rovers on standby for child rescue! (Norfolk here, so I don't think we're due to get the bad weather til tea time)

TheUnmentioned · 16/12/2010 07:35

What is the weather looking like for 22nd?

OP posts:
duckyfuzz · 16/12/2010 07:37

Snowing here

Loosingmymind · 16/12/2010 07:43

Where are you ducky? Windy in dumfries.

duckyfuzz · 16/12/2010 07:45

Co Durham

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 16/12/2010 07:46

wind and hail here (inner hebrides)

dietcokesholidaysarecoming · 16/12/2010 07:52

Off to panic buy between meetings and sending the stepchildren home early tonight. May park car on main road too.

moonmother · 16/12/2010 07:52

Here in Bedfordshire we have grey and dry start to this interesting day.

Temperature is at 6 degrees c

Pressures dropping and currently at 1012

Will report back later.

OYSSK it would be interesting for people to report the weather as it hits , and changes to see how quick it tracks down the country?

Grin I'm starting to turn mildy obsessive about the weather Grin

duckyfuzz · 16/12/2010 07:59

Ok temp here has gone from 5 to 2c snow in land, sleety rain on east coast at teesside

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 16/12/2010 08:01

After being stranded in Dundee for 10 days last time, and living somewhere that is so weather-dependent, I am also mildly obsessive Grin

So THANK YOU for the Met Office Invent link...that is my new toy!

I have been looking at the live-eye views on the traffic scotland website and it looks like it is snowing heavily in some places (southern Argyll, Fife, Lanarkshire but not Glasgow, Dundee, Edinburgh...) still looking though!

mankyscotslass · 16/12/2010 08:09

Really high winds here, and heavy rain.

Tameside.

midnightexpress · 16/12/2010 08:13

Good morning from Glasgow. No snow, no rain. it was v windy when we went to bed last night, but it seems to have calmed down. Not sure if it's icy, but there's no frost on the grass.

The BBC, meanwhile are telling me there's going to be 3 feet of snow Confused

Bucharest · 16/12/2010 08:23

Thank you from me too for snowykitten....I'm loving this thread in an eeeek kind of way. Hoping to land at Stansted tomorrow afternoon, and hoping to be in the chip shop in Nottm by 8pm.

If current forecasts are correct, I might make it by the skin of my teeth and then be snowed in for 10 days.

It's snowing here in southern Italy, and as I said on another thread, the locals are all very very confused, and looking at the sky in a chicken licken fashion. Bless.

SantaClausImWorthIt · 16/12/2010 08:28

Being snowed in in a chip shop isn't the worst place to be!

(Are they licensed? Xmas Grin)

NoahAndTheWhale · 16/12/2010 08:31

In York it is warm (relatively - about 6 or so) and grey and damp.

ledodgy · 16/12/2010 08:32

It is pissing down in Liverpool this morning and still dark. any more updates on our chances of snow here or is just going to be wet and miserable? thanks for this btw OYBK I really think you need to do this professionally.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 16/12/2010 08:34

Fantastic updates Xmas Grin

Temps will go up at first - a warm front before the cold front! complicated today.
I've warned dh that when the hail and high winds start he is to think about coming home - trains may struggle with the rapid icing. Hopefully though, with the freeze over happening in the day busy commuter lines will be ok.

I'm afraid that I'm not going to be around terribly much today. I'm out from late morning until later afternoon.

midnight - how on earth did Glasgow miss the first wave? I can see that on the radar but its amazing how things happen. You will see snow. 3ft though?? that would be a sight to behold - you would lose whole small children in that.

22nd looks cold, but I wouldnt want to give any specifics for when it many snow next week until the weekend really as it is so complicated - the models can't really pin that sort of detail down yet.

Good luck Bucharest! I think your assessment is pretty accurate

BigTeuch you are our frontline I think :)

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 16/12/2010 08:35

ledodgy - it will snow! pissing down is the prelude to the sleeting or snowing then the icing and heavy snow showers.

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 16/12/2010 08:36

We have a light dusting of snow here in NE Scotland!
