Confused - MET forecasting light snow showers tomorrow - none for weekend (in Dundee) - so don't know where tele are getting their info? Maybe from OYSSK? Grin

clayre · 15/12/2010 17:12

Im gonna go by the big window on the front of my house me thinks, it never lies.....

midnightexpress · 15/12/2010 17:34

Well, after a freezing cold morning here it got much warmer (5C this afternoon). Last Monday morning, the same thing happened and I thought 'great, it'll all be thawed by lunchtime'. By lunchtime we'd had about a foot of new snow and I had to fetch the DSs by sledge. Confused

I love OYSSK's weather reports and trust her far more than the Met Office. Though I must say that a weather team consisting of Heather the Weather and someone called Gail (BBC Scotland) always make smile.

TiredofTelford · 15/12/2010 17:41

OYSSK I am planning a journey from Telford to Glasgow on Friday, returning on Monday or Tuesday next week. Is this a good idea or are we goingto get stuck?

GeorgeWHollyBush · 15/12/2010 18:19

Thanks OYSSK! Feck, still not sure what to do. The tickets arrived today.

palomadove · 15/12/2010 18:56

OYSSK, what is the best website which would give real-time information on where and to what extent the snow is falling please?

Thanks for answering on my thread about travelling to Kent on Saturday - we'll need to decide whether to set off late on Friday night and find a hotel near to Eurotunnel I think, but if it's already snowing heavily befor we set off, then it might be best to wait at home.

What a pain! I'm fed up of the snow in this country now - but am hoping for loads in the Alps before we get there.

tia again.

Hey Kitten - do you think I'll be ok for a train journey from Bristol to Devon?? Am in a flap about it as really want to go!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 15/12/2010 20:13

paloma for close to real time I would use met office invent anf look at the rainfall and temps to give you a good idea.

Pussin - when?

telford - it could be tricky to get there. If you have time before you set off then I would def check national rail enquiries
Still not got a real handle on any detail into next week, this weekend is such a complex situation.

PussinJimmyChoos · 15/12/2010 20:13

Also, I am really confused as the weather forecast for these areas just show sleet showers/sunny intervals, yet there is a weather warning for snow in the whole South West Region - why, if the local maps are not showing it?

Grin
PussinJimmyChoos · 15/12/2010 20:14

Friday am, coming back Sun afternoon

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 15/12/2010 20:15

For tomorrow Pussin? The start of the cold front is very likely to be rain. What they havent really pinned down is how much of the back edge will be snow. However once it clears through temps will absolutely plummet to below freezing with it freezing over in perhaps as little as an hour or so.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 15/12/2010 20:17

x-posts! GFS shows for Fridaylots of snow for the SW (but maybe the tip of cornwall is a bit too warm)

PussinJimmyChoos · 15/12/2010 20:20

Arse...I just want to get a train from Bristol to Plymouth

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 15/12/2010 20:21

aww, well you know it could well be different on the day, thats the thing about weather.

PussinJimmyChoos · 15/12/2010 20:22

Thanks Kitten though, for being so helpful Smile

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 15/12/2010 20:24

lovely - thank you ever so much :)

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 15/12/2010 20:59

I have four chocolate fingers Kitten (in packet, not on hand obv) and I will share Xmas Grin.
Looking forward to Devon snow again, now that I have nowhere urgent to go on Friday.

laughalot · 15/12/2010 21:02

kitten im in nottinghamshire do you think thur or sat will be worse please Grin

mankyscotslass · 15/12/2010 21:35

Oooh! I just saw the BBC News Channels weather forecast for Saturday. Looks like Snowmaggedon here over Saturday.

What do you think OYSSK?

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 15/12/2010 21:42

oh lovely Sue :)

I think there is a pretty good chance of that Manky. It will prbably either snow quite a bit or absolute buckets for you.

laughalot - if you discount the significant ice risk then thursday is prob better.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 15/12/2010 21:52

Not so lovely. I've scoffed the lot Xmas Blush

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 15/12/2010 22:03

itsTwiiiiitmaaaaasss · 15/12/2010 22:30

I'm really sorry to do this to you but... Xmas Grin
DH is meant to go from Hereford to Rugby & back Friday... I'm worried, should he not bother?
Sorry again, I think not but you know more than I oh wise one.

WilfShelf · 15/12/2010 22:33

"Snowmageddon" Grin My shopping has arrived. I have enough panic buying items bread and milk to last me till Boxing Day

If we get snowed in (unlikely, though I am fascinated by the Cheshire Gap 'tail' of bad weather that might stretch to us in S Cheshire/N Staffs border) I am gonna just do Christmas early and we can all play Xbox Kinect games Grin

OYBBK, I think you need to start charging...

TheUnmentioned · 15/12/2010 22:49

How depressing, Ive started many a thread and the only one to elicit such a response is about snow and not about some witty anecdote of mine or some amazing opinion.

(Good on you OYBBK)
