GFS is going for something very similar in terms of temps for Glasgow (-4C) and with a high of -2 on Friday lunchtime. It does show some snow for Dundee but nothing too bad.

updated met office warnings
sometimes the warnings don't make sense - they do have Dundee in them for tomorrow and Friday, I don't know if the Friday one is for heavy snow as well as ice - it says it is.

clayre · 15/12/2010 13:56

looks like no snow for Dundee, yippeeeee!!!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 15/12/2010 14:00

Santa - tricky! out of all those options Sunday would be the least snowy probably. It really depends on where the pesky low pressure ends up on Saturday as to how much of an issue Saturday is. For a critical exam I'd hate to give you advice that buggers you up but coming back I think you should be ok on Monday daytime though you may well have falling snow in the Cardiff area. Don't set off late!!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 15/12/2010 14:00

Clayre - why do you say that?

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 15/12/2010 14:08

Kitten could you explain the cheshire gap effect thing please. Thank you.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 15/12/2010 14:13

:) when the wind blows from the right direction (NW) it funnels down the mersey picking up energy and moisture, this deposits itself as long train of snow showers. You get a similar effect down other rivers such as the Thames (known in common met talk as a Thames streamer when the wind blows ene)

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 15/12/2010 14:15

So does that mean that the cheshire lot will get a large dump of snow or completely miss out

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 15/12/2010 14:18

It means that they have a good chance of lots of snow. Its why the met office early warnings are such an odd shape.

GiraffeAHolic · 15/12/2010 14:23

Hi OYSSK, can I have an outlook for Norfolk for the next few days please, got a busy weekend that i wouldnt mind getting out of

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 15/12/2010 14:26

Thank you. It just seems like cheshire west was covered by the warmings but not cheshire east which was a bit Confused

domesticsluttery · 15/12/2010 14:29

Apologies if it has already been asked, but what is likely to happen in mid Wales please?

Have looked on various sites and they all seem to say different things.

I need to buy things for Christmas, but am getting over flu and am secretly thinking that a couple of snow days might actually be quite nice...

NoahAndTheWhale · 15/12/2010 15:06

Was just looking at the met office invent page for temperature tomorrow and it starts all green and as the day goes on gets bluer and bluer. If there is any precipitation after about 3pm looks like it would be snow. Or hail. Or something that isn't rain anyway.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 15/12/2010 15:38

Just waiting for the latest model run to come out :)

moid · 15/12/2010 15:44

Can we have some more snow in Surrey please Grin

midnightexpress · 15/12/2010 16:05

YES! You can have all ours moid. We've already had plenty for one year. And it's only December .

WilfShelf · 15/12/2010 16:07

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 15/12/2010 16:12

ermm, its not quite right - shows two Mon 06Z Hmm

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 15/12/2010 16:14

It also shows a huge warm over Christmas day Confused

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 15/12/2010 16:19

Ok they've corrected the monday issue.

I don't think we can entirely pin down where snow will happen tomorrow - it will start off as rain, but then its going to be a 'nowcasting' scenario.

Friday looks to be predominantly a western (including Wales) problem. Some east coasts too.

Saturday looks very very snowy for many. (including norfolk by lunchtime)

Sunday its the midlands up.

Monday - not sure. I reserve judgment.

mychatnickname · 15/12/2010 16:45

OYBBK - as ever I love all this and I love your updates! Keep them coming - you are our own weather star!

stnikkilarse1978 · 15/12/2010 16:52

OYSSK what does this mean for us in Surrey and London? No snow or just some on Saturday? I am starting to panic about the big xmas shop I am supposed to be doing on Tuesday. I am in Croydon and we seemed to get it fairly bad 2 weeks ago....

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 15/12/2010 16:58

Lovely festive Kitten.

So enough for sledging in Devon Fri/Sat do we think? Should I dust off the moon boots and the sleigh?

clayre · 15/12/2010 17:01

Wel the bbc lunchtime weather showed no snow over Dundee but the local paper has just came and it says we're gonna have 1 foot over the weekend Xmas Hmm
