Morning all.
Still very significant amounts of snow showing on the radar for the NE and parts of northern England and heavy showers up into the east side of Scotland. Light snow in some of the SE.

I hear on the radio Gatwick airport is closed.

off to look at the models :)

She is flying into Heathrow. She is majorly preggo so I don't want her getting stranded anywhere. LHR seems ok so far, just Gatwick is down by the looks of things. Friend is flying over from Dublin though where there is 7 inches, most they've ever seen in their lifetime!

Thank goodness you didn't say Gatwick!!!
Dublin seems to be hanging onto their snow showers, so she may end up with an issue there.

35cm in my garden today in Sheffield - pretty much fell overnight. Their is a \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/member/MemberPage?call=com.mumsnet.member.PublicImageGallery&nick=Hulababy\photo} on my prfile showing the snow on our street - waist high on DD in places!

My brother is flying home from hsi three months trip to Australia and new Zealand tomorrow - what a shock to the system he will get!

fatsatsuma · 01/12/2010 12:55

Thanks OYBBK

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2010 12:58

'afrain now'= afraid not. What on earth is going on with my typing?

OP posts:
fatsatsuma · 01/12/2010 13:04

I should know better by now, but looking at the TWO weather forum, some seem to think that there will be yet more interesting weather on Saturday. Have you picked up on that OYBBK?

GiraffeAHolic · 01/12/2010 13:07

I'm obviously in the wrong part of Norfolk, our whole village is literally an ice rink, and this is the first day in a week that we haven't had at least some falling snow

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2010 13:15

I saw a potential freezing rain scenario for Saturday fatsatsuma, I'll go and have a wander over to TWO

Giraffe - have you been getting the snow thats coming in along through the Wash?

foxinsocks · 01/12/2010 13:16

I have none :-) (in sw london) only a dusting, have not got any more

funny thing is, croydon is not that far from us, nor is epsom where my friend has 10cm - probably only 20miles away!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2010 13:18

oh dear. GFS does look interesting for Saturday!!!! certainly something to keep an eye on!

GiraffeAHolic · 01/12/2010 13:24

I'm not sure, it seems very localised around here, we had heavy snow Thursday/Friday/Saturday went 15 miles down the road to kings Lynn and they had hardly any. Was in Norwich yesterday late afternoon and within twenty minutes of it starting you couldn't see the ground, got home and we hadn't had any more at all.

Blue skies now.

LifeOfKate · 01/12/2010 13:30

Hulababy, your daughter is gorgeous!

A couple of pics on my profile now too.

fitflopqueen · 01/12/2010 13:38

South staffordshire, its trying hard to do big snow but more like being gently iced with sugar at the moment, about 2 inchesXmas Hmm

MaureenMLove · 01/12/2010 13:55

So, added to the 18cms I've just measured in my garden, it is likely to increase to 38cms. Fabbo! Grin

winterpetunia · 01/12/2010 14:12

Been snowing all day here in Leicester but hasn't been settling up 'til now. Even when bright sunshine came out about an hour ago, it still managed to keep snowing! I've got some quite impressive icicles hanging off my car near the wheel arches and from the roof of the shed.
So not looking forward to picking DD1 up in about 1 1/2 hours time. Actually beginning to wonder whether to pick her up early, looking at the size of the snowflakes coming down and the way it's settling.

DiscoDaisy · 01/12/2010 14:18

No snow in somerset! Sad
OH is in Dublin where he says it is bad. He's supposed to be flying back home tonight.
Fingers crossed!

Hulababy · 01/12/2010 14:23

Thank you LifeofKate :)

Your snowy pics are fab! And a beautiful baby!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2010 14:24

not likely - but may Mo!!!

Thought it was easing off about 15minutes ago and there was actually blue sky overhead (still snowing though!) That was 'til I looked East and the sky looks awful ~ think it's really going to come down again.

MrsThisIsTheCadillacOfNailguns · 01/12/2010 15:08

Still snowing heavily here in Leicestershire. It hasn't stopped all day.I've got to pick up dd1 from the bus stop in about 10 minutes.Brrr! And my fire has sulked all day and not really gotten going at all.My evening class has been cancelled for tonight and the postman hasn't made it.I'm hoping that no one else gets the bug that dd2 had last night as my washing machine is still frozen and the pipes leading to it have been forced apart by ice.

I think East Midlands airport must be closed as I've not heard any planes all day.

Hulababy · 01/12/2010 15:12

55cm of snow in the middle of my garden now - and that is taken right int he middle, not at the walls where it has drifted higher.

DH set off walking home from walk just after 2. It's about 5 miles but all up hill. We are 1000 feet up, town about 300!

mankyscotslass · 01/12/2010 15:13

School started calling parents to collect children at 1400, the snow has really started again here now!

MaureenMLove · 01/12/2010 15:24

LOL! Not bothered now actually, could do with going into town, since school have just confirmed another snow day tomorrow!! Grin

mummylin2495 · 01/12/2010 16:21
