Morning all.
Still very significant amounts of snow showing on the radar for the NE and parts of northern England and heavy showers up into the east side of Scotland. Light snow in some of the SE.

I hear on the radio Gatwick airport is closed.

off to look at the models :)

Blimey Pesto, that was a lucky escape.

We've been having quite a good snow shower here in Leicester for the last 2 hours but it's just beginning to ease off now.

Hope everyone in the London area is OK ~ been hearing about it on the radio this morning and it sounds dreadful down that way.

OYBBK ~ netweather are going for the 'warm blip' scenario before getting cold again and I noticed on the metoffice, that on Sunday we start off with rain before getting snow again in the afternoon. It'll be interesting to see which side wins over the weekend.

mankyscotslass · 01/12/2010 09:29

Another couple of cm here this morning.

Been out again this morning, cleared our front garden and path and the pavement beyond, and fed the birds.

It keeps trying to snow again, and the clouds look ominous over the Peaks.

thenightsky · 01/12/2010 09:32

Loads more overnight snow here. I don't think I've ever seen so much! My car is completely buried now under 4 foot drifts. I cannot open my patio doors as the snow is half way up the glass.

I am going to go out and take photos later.

LilRedWG · 01/12/2010 09:33

Nothing here in Worcestershire.

snowedinthesticks · 01/12/2010 09:35

We are buried.
Well it feels like it.
No access in or out of our village.
There was lots of community spirit this morning, at 7.30am loads of people (including my DSs)were out trying to help dig out the cars of those who had set off earlier and got stuck. No one has gone to work today , all schools shut and no buses.
It has just stopped snowing. We don't usually get the worst weather here (Lincolnshire) but I've never seen this much snow.

BrigitBigKnickers · 01/12/2010 09:37

We have about 5 inches in Essex- over 350 schools shut although annoyingly not DDs school(15 mile bus journey away.)

Just hope it doesn't get worse as I'm not sure how I would get her home if her school closes early and the bus decides not to run.

BarkisIsWilling · 01/12/2010 09:38

Some schools are closed here in south London (including my children's). Some still openedConfused

MrsThisIsTheCadillacOfNailguns · 01/12/2010 09:39

Heavy snow in Leicestershire-we didn't have much overnight [was up with a sicky dd2 so was checking until 2am ish].It started in earnest at about 7.30 and doesn't seem to be letting up.Dds school is open, but it rarely closes, the college campuses in Melton are both closed, and a rural primary that my sister works in is having a late start to give everyone a chance to get in.The roads here are very bad and I fully expect to have the school ring to say that they are closing early.

LifeOfKate · 01/12/2010 09:42

Hello :) We've got more snow than I've ever seen (waves to fellow Lincolnshire residents), about 18 inches when I measured last. Took some photos earlier, will try and get them onto my profile at some point.

mankyscotslass · 01/12/2010 09:43

It's just gone dark, I looked up and saw VERY heavy snow! I didn't think we were forecast it for here this heavy!

Glitterknickaz · 01/12/2010 09:45

The head of our school was so determined to keep it open she drove the staff in herself this morning.

If it carries on snowing like it is they're going to have to close early, surely?

GiraffeAHolic · 01/12/2010 09:49

OYBBK any idea what is happening in Norfolk today/next few days? we didn't have any here overnight (although was snowing heavy in Norwich yesterday evening). Odd flake coming down now but I swear its blowing a gale out there Hmm

pigleychez · 01/12/2010 09:54

More heavy snow overnight here in West Sussex. We have a good 5/6 inches of snow now.

DH hasnt even attempted his train commute to London today after it took him 4 hours to get home last night.

thenightsky · 01/12/2010 10:07

snowedinthesticks I'm in Lincolnshire too... where are you? I'm near Market Rasen.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2010 10:07

manky - you didn't! looking at the radar Shock

Giraffe - I'm really being a bit rubbish with the forecasts at the moment. you may get some today and some showers tomorrow, but in generalish norfolk seems to have some sort of snow repellent on it!

One of the models is going for some decent snow later today in central southern england and the SE.

Hi all. More snow and disruption here. Although DH and his dad have managed to get into work [crazy peole emoticon]. I have finay reached the end of my chocolate stash so I may get DH to pick some up at lunch time from the co-op.

All of the would be nice if it was over Christmas break and we were all snuggling in together. But being as it is only the beginning of winter I'm not impressed!

Bunbaker you disappeared last night Sad and I was so looking forward to some of your mince pies !

redhappy · 01/12/2010 10:17

It has arrived in Worcestershire, this part anyway

mumto2andnomore · 01/12/2010 10:18

Im in Leicester. Had a sprinkling last night and its been snowing quite heavily all morning. Children still at school have heard the main roads are fine.

mankyscotslass · 01/12/2010 10:21

OYBBK the snow is still falling!

Not as heavy though and the sky looks brighter, but we got at least another inch!

Bunbaker · 01/12/2010 10:22

I have eaten them all MummyBerryJuice Grin.

Weather update from South Yorkshire. About another 8 inches last night and three more this morning. No schools, no buses and no trains.

GrimmaTheNome · 01/12/2010 10:22

Anyone know if Heathrow's OK? DH set off this morning for Toulouse via Manchester and Heathrow. We've virtually no snow here and he said Manchester was fine yesterday, but if Gatwick is closed till tomorrow is it possible Heathrow isn't buggered too?

VivaLeBeaver · 01/12/2010 10:25

Got abbout 10" in Lincs now, maybe a bit more. Roads are very bad.

PurplePillow · 01/12/2010 10:26

We've had snow showers but last good fall was monday night Sad but what we do have is frozen solid.....I want more snow (it's warmer when it snows!)
