Morning all.
Still very significant amounts of snow showing on the radar for the NE and parts of northern England and heavy showers up into the east side of Scotland. Light snow in some of the SE.

I hear on the radio Gatwick airport is closed.

off to look at the models :)

Thanks oybbk, yes typical that is, dh is the only person in the whole company who made it into work today (huge national company)

LifeOfKate · 01/12/2010 10:28

Waves at thenightsky I'm near Market Rasen too!

VivaLeBeaver · 01/12/2010 10:28

Actually its more than 10", have just been and measured the snow on top of hte sandpit and its 15" deep. The snow is past the top of my snow boots and deep enough to make id difficult to open my back door which is up a step.

monstermissy · 01/12/2010 10:29

here in norfolk ive got blue sky and sunshine, no snow at all. Its freezing though and really really windy. Im gutted would love to experience some good snow :(

seeker · 01/12/2010 10:30

Next question. Dd has a ticket to see Biffy Clyro on Saturday at Wembley. Will she make it?

I can't bear the thoght of dealing with her if she can't!

MegBusset · 01/12/2010 10:33

No snow here in Enfield (N London), we seem to have escaped so far, touch wood. Keeping everything crossed East Anglia will be OK tomorrow and Friday for our house move!!

takingchances · 01/12/2010 10:39

South West London is v overcast but no snow yet this morning. Snowed like a bastard last night but no proper sticking so this morning there was just a fine icing over everything. Surrey office site is closed so working from home...nice & warm!

asdx2 · 01/12/2010 10:47

OYBBK had at last measure 19.5 inches here in NE Derbyshire though it has snowed pretty much constantly since then. Do you see any more for us before the weekend?

mankyscotslass · 01/12/2010 10:53

The snow looked to be easing off to tiny flakes, the sky got brighter, so I went out to clear the path AGAIN!. Of course, while I was doing it the flakes got huge again. Angry

Just measured the snow on top of the binsw, since last night we have had 3 inches of snow! Shock

Over half of that has been this morning!

mankyscotslass · 01/12/2010 10:58

Since we were only forecast a few light showers I am Shock.

It's small flakes here now, with a hazy sun in the distance.

stressheaderic · 01/12/2010 11:01

I'm in Merseyside and we have none. A few flakes yesterday, enough to dust the ground but that was it. Bloody arctic though.

Not jealous though, I hate the stuff and last year was absolutely awful. Plus, my LEA now has a 'contingency plan' for staff and pupils to go to nearest school to teach/supervise if schools cannot open. Rubbish.

MrsThisIsTheCadillacOfNailguns · 01/12/2010 11:07

Still snowing hard here.DD2 has made a miraculous recovery and has been making orange pomanders with me.Dad and rest of the family are farmers and are really struggling to keep the water ice free for the sheep and beast. Also are having to use feed designated for later on in the winter.

Bunbaker · 01/12/2010 12:02

Just heard on the national news that we are one of the worst hit areas for snow Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2010 12:13

Just been out for a skid walk into town.

In general, if you've had snow over the last day or so, then it seems that you are quite likely to continue on the same theme over the next couple of days I'm afraid.

Some huge amounts here Shock

ok, I need a cup of tea and some lunch!

ProfYaffle · 01/12/2010 12:14

monstermissy - you've got no snow in Norfolk??? Shock We've got tons of it! Hasn't snowed today but it's still thick on the ground and has frozen solid, all the side roads like skating rinks.

CarmenSales · 01/12/2010 12:16

Friend just called from Gatwick and said it's been closed until tomorrow.

juneybean · 01/12/2010 12:17

Heavy-ish snow here in a village in houghton le spring, and no buses coming into the village!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2010 12:17

I am not surprised - it is already badly hit and in line for a lot this afternoon and tonight.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2010 12:18

(Gatwick I meant)

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2010 12:20

A further 20cm for some in the SE!

OP posts:
takingchances · 01/12/2010 12:21

Does SE include London, OYBBK? Or is it more Kent-y... have a friend flying in to see us on Fri

fatsatsuma · 01/12/2010 12:35

OYBBK, do you think N Oxon is going to get any in the next few days? We seem to be one of the very few areas that's hardly had any. I know it's not funny any more for lots of people really struggling with loads of snow - but I have snow envy Envy

ShirleyKnot · 01/12/2010 12:36

You're joking OYBK.

Bexley Borough here and I am not exaggerating when I say that I have not seen snow this deep in years.

Having to work from home (damn you technology) as it took me 45 minutes to drive to the end of my road yesterday Shock

Brrrrrrr

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2010 12:36

all of London will probably see more later - but the worst of it will be from Croydon down.
Which airport is your friend flying in to?

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2010 12:39

i'm afrain now Shirleyknot.

fatsatsuma, I'll probably end up utterly wrong on this, but today into tomorrow Oxfordshire looks distinctively snow free. You are caught between two bands - one coming from the Thames area down and one coming from the Wash up. (both bands stretching SW)
