Been too busy to look at weather stuff in any detail at all this week Shock

Obviously details are low at the moment but Monday does look quite interesting as a low moves through. Strong gusty winds, which many of us have not seen for a good while. met office are showing gusts over 40mph right across the uk, 50-60mph in places Keep an eye on this in case the low deepens more than they expect.

Very windy here in Eastern Scotland - pressure is a nice round 1000. Not very cloudy though.

TheFoosa · 08/11/2010 08:33

We had a terrific storm in South Devon last night

but all is calm now

YourCallIsImportant · 08/11/2010 08:38

965 now.

bramblebooks · 08/11/2010 09:10

967 here in Chester and grim.
Not evening opening the doors on the chicken run today - they have a new roof and sides firmly bungeed on.

ethelina · 08/11/2010 09:18

No idea about the pressure but its blowing a hooley in Kent, pretty disgusting getting worse.

Brightonton · 08/11/2010 09:34

Pressure at 969 in Brighton at the moment. Raining very hard a lot overnight -setting off car alarms. Intermittent heavy rain at the moment. Big gusts of wind - enough to rock stationary cars. Pavements covered in all the leaves that have come down. School run not fun.
Is it going to improve by pick-up time OYBK?

Meglet · 08/11/2010 09:57

Currently stopped raining in north hampshire and the wind isn't too bad.

However some of my washing is now lying on the grass after some hefty wind last night.

MrsThisIsTheCadillacOfNailguns · 08/11/2010 09:58

I'm still here OYBBK,I have just nipped down to my polytunnel picked the last of the tomatoes and peppers, and repaired a small tear before the wind got in and ripped it completely.I have sat down with my recipe books and realised that I don't have any onions.Gah,it is a 12 mile trip to the nearest shop and it is still raining heavily with strong gusts of wind.Might see if my neighbour want to swap a couple of onions for my tomatoes.

HabbiBOOM · 08/11/2010 10:02

Love these threads. Does anyone else really really want a barometer now?

Anyway - East Scotland here - NE Fife. Wind has dropped, quite mild and damp atm. Think there are reports of compacted snow on the A9 at Drumochter.

Here's a challenge, Kitten - weather in Aviemore weekend of 19th Nov?

HabbiBOOM · 08/11/2010 10:04

Or, to put it another way, do I just have to have these boots?

omnishambles · 08/11/2010 10:42

Pissing down and windy here in surrey - have just swallowed my pride and asked someone else to pick up ds from school in their car and am now sitting here wondering if they really resent me...arrgh.

petunia · 08/11/2010 11:14

I take back what I said earlier about it not being too bad here in Leicester. I was wrong (think that being inside gave false sense of security!), it's cold (4C according to the car's temp guage) and very wet.
Glad to be back from school run/shopping trip to Sainsburys. Need tea!

midnightexpress · 08/11/2010 11:21

Here in Glasgow, freeeeezing cold wind this morning, but not as wild as I thought it was going to be overnnight and no weather advisories for here

Ooooh, it's gone right off the bottom! how exciting.

Praline · 08/11/2010 11:27

It is yucky in Tunbridge Wells, gonna build a Cath Kidston Oilcloth Ark for the school run later!

moonmother · 08/11/2010 11:29

I battled the wind and rain to Aldi's after the school run, and have been playing with new weather station for the past hour Grin

Pressure here has dropped still to 970, the outside temp at mo is 6.5c. Winds stepped up a couple of notches though. Rain seems to have eased off a tad thankfully.

Off to school for Lunchtime duties soon, ob wet play today.

On 2nd pair of jeans all ready Grin

Habbi I would love those boots

Praline · 08/11/2010 11:32

I want a weather station!

moonmother · 08/11/2010 11:40

Praline get down to an Aldi they have them in at the moment. £17.99 but really good. I had a look in Argos etc and for the same type they are a lot more money.

It has a small sensor that you can put in a protected place outside and it relays the data to the Main unit inside.

I do have an old one but that has a wire on it that you have to dangle out the window.

The old ones upstairs facing out of the house one way and the new ones downstairs facing out the other way ,lol.

It's my birthday Weds, so it's my present to myself Grin

petunia · 08/11/2010 11:48

Grin at Moonmother with her weatherstation!
I was going to go to our local Aldi but had to get some Diesel from Sainsburys and couldn't be bothered to go anywhere else for cake supplies.
I'll take a trip to Aldi tomorrow to have a look at their weatherwatching gear! Is it one of these that you bought?

lostinwales · 08/11/2010 12:49

I have weather station envy! Amazing storm overnight here in West Wales, massive gusts of wind, rain and hail and thunder. My old house was rattling and banging all night. There are some HUGE puddles of water out on the roads but it is warm, the sun is shining and there is not a breath of wind. Am I in the middle OYBBK and should I expect the same again later or are we done (please say we are done I have to go and look around a secondary school tonight in the middle of the mountains and it's always windy there anyway!)

coatgate · 08/11/2010 12:52

You have weather stations! I didn't even know there was a whole Weather topic on MN. Really cold and windy and rainy here in Saddleworth - can't be more specific as I don't have a weather station

fridascruffs · 08/11/2010 12:56

Oh yes Habbi you need them!

fridascruffs · 08/11/2010 12:57

I would say it would be DANGEROUS to go out without them.

HabbiBOOM · 08/11/2010 12:58

Dark dark skies and pissing rain here now. Am going to order the boots - justifying them as I'll be walking up a bit of Cairngorm to see the reindeer in a couple of weeks with ds on my back. It's for his safety...

HabbiBOOM · 08/11/2010 12:59

x-posts, and you are utterly right, frida.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/11/2010 13:07

966 Grin

Had an additional 7.5mm of rain this morning so 32mm in total.

lostinwales, you do have more rain to come, not so much of the wind I don't think, just a bit gusty. This is a really large low pressure and yes you are pretty much in the middle if it now :)

looks like cumbria gor the worst of the snow? some around Buxton too.

Going to be quite a miserable week, more of the same, cold, wet and windy. new low pressure thursday - looks more like a northern half of the uk event.
