Been too busy to look at weather stuff in any detail at all this week Shock

Obviously details are low at the moment but Monday does look quite interesting as a low moves through. Strong gusty winds, which many of us have not seen for a good while. met office are showing gusts over 40mph right across the uk, 50-60mph in places Keep an eye on this in case the low deepens more than they expect.

I am still not convinced that this will be a uk wide issue but some timings for you where I think it will be a bit of a problem (remembering I'm very amateur):

18:00 today - north western Scotland (just starting to blow)
21:00 - west Scotland, England, down to mid Wales
(then a blowy night for all down the western side and northern half of britain)
06:00 - southern coast will start to see its peak. Watch out for coastal flooding during high tide as the winds are from the south in the morning.
in the afternoon there will be a lull for many before it picks up again.

off out soon but will update this afternoon.

interesting bramble - funny how they know (and I definitely believe they do.

bramblebooks · 07/11/2010 07:41

Yes, they were giving me the Hmm face.

Fortunately therre is a chap coming to mend the leaky gutter this morning.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2010 13:30

some flash warnings looks like my thoughts tie in with the met office thoughts.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2010 13:34

notice the heavy snow warning that has crept into the highlands area.

thanks for the heads up. We are on the West Coast of Scotland - beautiful cold but sunny day here, not a bit of wind - but sure enought we have a severe weather warning from 8pm tonight.

No way you would think something nasty is coming! Will sort out the kids toys in the garden this afternoon now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2010 13:55

Good plan!

ChickensHaveNoLips · 07/11/2010 14:00

Looks like nothing much will happen in the midlands. Have stashed all the hanging baskets just in case, though.

oh dear tmmj. good luck with that.

chicken, not a bad plan. Although it won't be terrible in your area (probably!) it will still be a very wet and gusty day. not too pleasant.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2010 14:10

incidentally, if you have a barometer, as the low comes over watch how it falls and see how low it gets. It is a pretty deep low.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2010 14:46

shipping forecast wouldnt like to be out at sea - some places have 'phenomenal' waves predicted. Envy

petunia · 07/11/2010 18:07

I've found it interesting to compare the warnings given out by Metmonkey and the Metoffice. Metmonkey decided on these areas being worst hit, early this morning.

There's also a thread on Metmonkey discussing another storm coming at the end of the week. Do the charts show anything, OYBBK?

hugglymugly · 07/11/2010 19:34

There's an interesting image at expert.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/2010/11/07/basis12/ukuk/slpd/10110718_0712.gif. I'm not sure whether that's actual or forecast. Apparently the dark blob to the left of Scotland is where the left exit of the jet is. Confused

Also: www.yr.no/satellitt/europa_animasjon.html, which takes a bit of time to load, but it's interesting to watch the huge wodge of cloud in the top left hand corner as it makes its way towards the UK then starts rotating.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2010 19:37

I'll have a look Petunia - lots of real life to keep up with at the moment which is mean when I just want to weather gaze. Met monkey look like they are undercooking the windspeeds there for nW scotland.

TORRO have issued a tornado watch. Please report damage or observations to this thread (or pm me) or to TORRO. Particularly anything out of the ordinary range.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2010 19:43

hmmm, yes, another low at the end of this week to watch. Similarly deep to this one, perhaps a little lower?? interesting times.....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2010 21:17

any reports from the top end of Scotland?

mylifewithstrangers · 07/11/2010 21:24

LOL, I just leaned over to inform DP he better be careful driving to and from work tomorrow. He raised a laconic eyebrow and said "the Mumsnet gals been shaking their seaweed again?" Hmm

I'll kick him for you

Grin
OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2010 21:29

oh def give him a kick for me and ask him how good he would be at intepreating charts from wetterzentrale
hmpff.

mylifewithstrangers · 07/11/2010 21:33

I'll pass him on the link and challenge him to a weather-off Grin

And a few kicks should get him appreciating the brilliance of your weather corner - one of the highlights of MN in my opinion (geek)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2010 21:40
Grin

thank you :)

Northernlurker · 07/11/2010 21:45

Just checked my barometer (in York) and we are down at 993.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2010 21:50

huggly - sorry, I somehow missed your post. Some good links you found there showing the start of it for us.

barometer here reading 989 and dropping :) think I may need to recalibrate though, looking at local airfield I think it should be around 997

updated warnings

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2010 21:52

thanks NL, that reconfirms I need to check my barometer, I may not have corrected for height when I last changed the batteries (digital)
