I do not feel bad for people who miss their flights or trains.

In general it is not hard at all to be on time. People miss flights or trains because of their own poor plannings, time management and irresponsibility.

when I travel by train from one city to another city far away, I see other travellers running to catch their trains. Sometimes they manage to make it onto their trains before they leave, a lot of time they miss them and they complain and throw a fit and sometimes even cry.

i always chuckle when I witness that because I know for sure that it is their fault. When I travel and I have a train or flight to catch I make sure to leave my house early to I can arrive early. At least 3 hours early. If I have a flight at 9 AM for example and the airline recommends me to be at the airport at 7 AM I am there at 6 AM. Of course I take myself to the airport so that nobody can dictate what I can and can’t do. I don’t let relatives take me to the airport anymore. I use uber or public transport.

the only time I’ve ever missed my flights or trains was when I travelled with older relatives. But ever since I started travelling solo, I never missed my flights or trains.

so when I am at the train stations or airport and I see people running, I feel 0 sympathy for them. They most likely loiter at home and decide to leave their homes close to the time of their departures.

This thread is a great example of some of the very funny wit to be found here at MN. I love it.

Welshmonster · 29/08/2025 00:22

The sad OP is probably just bored on one of their long layovers and has nothing better to do with the their sad little life

ManteesRock · 29/08/2025 08:39

joseline · 28/08/2025 15:34

That’s why I pick long layovers

I had a 2hr layover I still had to run to my connecting train because unfortunately someone decided that their time on earth should be shortened and it was my first train that they decided would be their way off!
Thankfully they were not successful as the driver spotted them, but we were still at a standstill for a very long time while police etc tried to move them from the side of the railway!
Was that still my fault?

theemmadilemma · 29/08/2025 10:16

Such rage bait.

I'm a chronic early arriver, and even I've been caught out travelling solo. Happens to the best of us.

User838960 · 29/08/2025 10:23

What a thrilling life you lead.

dizzydizzydizzy · 29/08/2025 10:35

There are a million and one reasons why somebody could be late. I usually arrive early everywhere but there have been exceptions such as:

I was once late for an interview because my train ran over a man working on the line. Another time I was late for work because a building was on fire near my workplace and that caused the whole town to be gridlocked. I nearly missed a flight once because the app still said 'Wait in the lounge' but in actual fact it should have said 'go to the gate'. When we got to the gate, the screen said 'closed' but they let us on anyway.

A friend of mine has very severe time blindness as part of her ADHD. She is often late. She can't help it.

Mh67 · 29/08/2025 11:22

I agree I've never missed anything. Even with work and I use public transport in 26 years I was late once when two buses didn't show up. Next one was full so I had to wait on 4th one

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/08/2025 11:59

Yes, but do you laugh at other people who miss trains or buses, and fail to understand that people have all sorts of things going on in their lives, and things outwith their control that may mean they aren’t as successful as you, @Mh67?

That’s what people have objected to about @joseline‘s post.

I’ve left hours early and London traffic and issues still makes me late

I missed being on an interview panel once because the DLR broke down almost within sight of my office and I was stuck on it between stations for 2 hours. And I was only on the DLR because the tube wasn’t working that day.

I’d caught the first train from my local station, so absolutely no way I could have avoided the situation!

Cattenberg · 29/08/2025 13:55

I was once late for a theatre performance, having caught the first available train after I finished work. It approached the destination station almost on time, then shunted itself into a sidings for several minutes because "there was no platform available". That one was particularly annoying.

Navyontop · 29/08/2025 14:19

You don’t seem very nice

Kendodd · 29/08/2025 14:28

Oh god my mum was like that!
If going on a long train journey as a child with her we had to be at the train station at least two hours before our train left. We just had to ignore the fact that there was at least one train an hour to our destination.
I have no truck with such nonsense now and I'm too busy anyway to spend hours and hours hanging around at train stations or airports.

GreyCloudsAbove · 29/08/2025 17:46

Wow aren't you a delight ! I nearly missed my flight for the first time last week... I aim to arrive 3 hrs before but guess what, someone on the way died in a car crush.... I was stuck for 4 hrs with no way to come off... joys of the motorway.

May I recommend you gain some kindness and empathy or just keep your mouth closed?

LouiseK93 · 29/08/2025 17:48

Madam Perfect will miss their train/flight tomorrow now 😂

Jetandianto · 29/08/2025 17:48

Smug! Try walking in other people’s shoes. I once allowed a six hour gap to catch a flight to Barcelona from Gatwick but was stuck in a nightmare on the M25 for over eight hours.

defrazzled · 29/08/2025 17:50

You made this post to show off about a lack of empathy - can you not see how weird that is OP?

Awww...do you feel better for putting this out there? Made yourself smile? Bit of self-gratification from being a smug c*nt. Well, if you dislike what I just called you - I really can only blame you for putting your opinion to the public. It really doesn't cost to use your brain, manners, compassion. It is your own fault (as you have also said) for making your own bed, digging your own grave, and now you can snuggle up in it and chuckle until your bitter, little heart (if you have one), is content.

I hear they are auditioning for the live version of 'Baby Reindeer' - Perhaps you can audition for the part of Martha. You wouldn't even need to act!

Let's hope you never get stuck in traffic, suffer a tragedy, end up disabled (your brain already is it would appear) - Nothing so truly horrific, or even something little which causes a knock-on-effect and makes you late. Remember your post when this happens.

Alas, only people with families, children, partners, a good life end up running late! Because they have commitments outside of time constraints, distractions, they are realists, they do not have the stick of bitter hate lodged firmly up their backsides to move them along.

Must be nice being so lonely.

CornishIrish · 29/08/2025 18:01

I would guess you are neurodivergent and not considering the variables or this is bait or you are just an unpleasant person. Either way I hope you have gotten what you wanted from this.

busymomtoone · 29/08/2025 18:02

Ah yes , most times if I run late I am fortunate enough to chill / acknowledge the world won’t end if I’m late. The time you might have seen me crying and distraught was when I desperately wanted to get home because my Dad had been admitted to ITU - will never forget the kindness of a guard who held the ( last) night train for a few mins so I didn’t have to wait till morning - but bless you and your cosy, smug little life - damned inconsiderate of relatives not to give advanced warning of urgent hospital admissions.

Bowies · 29/08/2025 18:05

It’s a small life where you can always leave from home, early and plan long lay overs.

You have no idea why people are late, but carry on being hard headed and hard hearted about it if you want to.

Duechristmas · 29/08/2025 18:07

What a self righteous bore.

WadiShab · 29/08/2025 18:08

It is one thing not to empathise with anyone that has missed a train or flight, that is bad enough but to say that you chuckle at someone's frustration or upset is unnecessary, juvenile and just plain nasty.

Not every trip is planned, not every trip is for lesuire, some are emergencies and serious ones. Grow up.

GiveDogBone · 29/08/2025 18:10

What on earth makes you think we care what you think?

Moii · 29/08/2025 18:10

Know where you're coming from, I'm a very good time keeper never late for anything. There always one at work 10 mins late everyday, it's not rocket science just start 10mins earlier.
