I do not feel bad for people who miss their flights or trains.

In general it is not hard at all to be on time. People miss flights or trains because of their own poor plannings, time management and irresponsibility.

when I travel by train from one city to another city far away, I see other travellers running to catch their trains. Sometimes they manage to make it onto their trains before they leave, a lot of time they miss them and they complain and throw a fit and sometimes even cry.

i always chuckle when I witness that because I know for sure that it is their fault. When I travel and I have a train or flight to catch I make sure to leave my house early to I can arrive early. At least 3 hours early. If I have a flight at 9 AM for example and the airline recommends me to be at the airport at 7 AM I am there at 6 AM. Of course I take myself to the airport so that nobody can dictate what I can and can’t do. I don’t let relatives take me to the airport anymore. I use uber or public transport.

the only time I’ve ever missed my flights or trains was when I travelled with older relatives. But ever since I started travelling solo, I never missed my flights or trains.

so when I am at the train stations or airport and I see people running, I feel 0 sympathy for them. They most likely loiter at home and decide to leave their homes close to the time of their departures.

Bully for you, OP.
You don't know the reasons why people are late so don't judge.
In my case, I'm usually trying to fit far too much in and rarely leave that extra contingency time, but if I miss a train (never missed a plane) I take full responsibility for it - I don't expect your sympathy!

DingoWoodworm · 29/08/2025 18:13

Well aren’t you Miss Perfect. 🤣

HereWeGo1234 · 29/08/2025 18:17

Do you Chuckle at everyone who misses a train or a bus?
You don’t know what went on in their home before they left. You don’t know why they are late.
You sound like a nasty piece of work.

Izyboo · 29/08/2025 18:17

Wow, you sound like a delightful barrel of fun, with a superiority complex.

You don't know what has happened to cause someone to be late. Just today I had a 45 minute connection time between trains which turned into 3 minutes. I had to run along a platform, up over a bridge and back along another platform with 2 young children.

MikeRafone · 29/08/2025 18:19

one day you'll have a connection to make and the first plane or train will be late - you'll miss your connection and then be stuck for 24 hrs until the next flight. I hope you then o realise it wasn't pleasant to be so sanctimonious

All alone, yes?

😂

Teaandtoastserveddaily · 29/08/2025 18:20

Wow how lovely for you OP. I'm guessing you don't have children or other dependents or responsibilities so you can get to the station or airport many hours early and wait around. Given your attitude I'm not at all surprised as I'd run a mile if I met someone as horribly smug as you.

BarnacleBeasley · 28/08/2025 15:33

You sound nice. Most people I see running at train stations, including myself, are doing it because they are trying to make a connection and their first train arrived late.

First answer nailed it.

Mellowbear · 29/08/2025 18:21

Well this didn't go how you thought in your bored little head lol

TaliaTalia · 29/08/2025 18:21

I’m reading this while getting my breath back sprinting for my train (made it 💪😂).
The one flight going where I needed to get today was delayed by over two hours. I need to get to where I’m going by 19:00 which left me with one train option and it meant running for it.
No poor planning or disorganisation, just life getting in the way.

For what it’s worth I’m feeling the rush having made it but I much prefer my usual more sedate journeys.

Jorge14 · 29/08/2025 18:22

Whilst I agree with organising yourself, being early and I also don’t like to rely on other family members, I wouldn’t find it funny that someone else missed their flight, it may be their own fault but it could be circumstances, either way, that’s not funny to me

I never missed my connections either because I pick long layovers. Specially when I am flying. Minimum 3 to 5 hour layovers.

The last connecting flight I missed had a 3 hour layover... the first flight was delayed by 3.5 hours. The connection was the last flight of the day. An even longer layover would have been impossible.

The last plane I ran for and only just managed to catch was a connecting flight in Schiphol. The first flight was delayed by 4 hours. Also I had to change terminals at Schiphol which meant going through security again.

whyyyyyisitmonddayy · 29/08/2025 18:23

joseline · 28/08/2025 15:34

That’s why I pick long layovers

I had a Eurostar train that was set to get in two and a half hours before my connecting regional train at a station a 10 minute tube ride away. Eurostar cancelled my train, and I could only get on one four hours later - so yes, when we finally got back to England, you better bet I was hussling myself and DP to the train station we needed to be at! Luckily we made it as it was the last train of the evening. Often people find themselves in tricky situations. Cars break down. Keys go missing. Connecting trains go wrong. Flights get pushed back/ delayed. Passports go missing. Alarms don’t go off in the morning.

Pleased as punch to hear you’re so perfect though!!

RigIt · 29/08/2025 18:25

I much prefer people who are late to people who are smug, judgemental arseholes.

LilMagpie · 29/08/2025 18:25

lol weird post. Are you looking for us to congratulate you for being so utterly incredible at catching planes and trains?
I’m a fellow get-there-early person for what it’s worth, especially for flights. I quite often stay at an airport hotel the night before. But I have also (separately) been stuck on the m25 for 6 hours before so it’s not always something that people are in control of 🙄

Nikki7506 · 29/08/2025 18:27

Wow, chuckling to yourself in a fit of schadenfreude sounds a little bit psycho🤔
I personally, feel empathy for anyone who suffers misfortune. Their own fault or not👍

Buildingthefuture · 29/08/2025 18:29

We missed a flight because there was a big crash a few cars in front of us. People died and they obviously closed the motorway. We sat there for 6 hrs whilst paramedics/air ambulance/accident investigation came in. I didn’t feel at all sorry for myself, I was more concerned about the injured or killed.

I think you are just looking to annoy people and then sit back and chuckle that you have. You haven’t annoyed me. In fact I’m enjoying your post and having a good chuckle myself. At You!

Here is a simple solution. Leave your house extra early instead of loitering.

A few weeks ago, DD and her friend left in plenty of time to get to Gatwick Airport to catch their flight. As far as humanly possible, they allowed for any delays. Unfortunately, there was an accident on the QE2 bridge, so it was closed. This meant that in order to cross the River Thames, they had to go into London, along with hundreds of other drivers! Fortunately, they managed to get to the airport in time.

I would be delighted to hear how you would have managed in these circumstances. Not to mention the regular delays people experience on the M25.

You’re wasting your life away waiting hours in airports Y’know?

I had a 30-minute layover in Dubai and I arrived at the gate in plenty of time with a fresh sandwich and drink.

You need to do some serious layover training. Speed up slowpoke!!!!!

trelawney59 · 29/08/2025 18:35

I’ve missed train connections as a result of fatalities on the railway line on more than one occasion. Perhaps spare a thought for these individuals and their family and friends. I only hope that this tragic situation never happens to anyone that you know. You might have a different perspective then.

Janus · 29/08/2025 18:36

What a twat you are. I travel by train often and some journeys have 3 changes which are meant to be about 20 minutes to change over. Quite often the trains run late and I end up having about 2 minutes to change platforms so I have missed my connecting train. Explain how that’s my fault and how I shouldn’t be annoyed? As for other posters who have witnessed car crashes and people have died in those crashes, again, explain how they are at fault? What a misery you are.

well no. I’d rather have these long layovers so I don’t have to run and be in a rush.

you keep doing your tight connections if you enjoy stress.
