I do not feel bad for people who miss their flights or trains.

In general it is not hard at all to be on time. People miss flights or trains because of their own poor plannings, time management and irresponsibility.

when I travel by train from one city to another city far away, I see other travellers running to catch their trains. Sometimes they manage to make it onto their trains before they leave, a lot of time they miss them and they complain and throw a fit and sometimes even cry.

i always chuckle when I witness that because I know for sure that it is their fault. When I travel and I have a train or flight to catch I make sure to leave my house early to I can arrive early. At least 3 hours early. If I have a flight at 9 AM for example and the airline recommends me to be at the airport at 7 AM I am there at 6 AM. Of course I take myself to the airport so that nobody can dictate what I can and can’t do. I don’t let relatives take me to the airport anymore. I use uber or public transport.

the only time I’ve ever missed my flights or trains was when I travelled with older relatives. But ever since I started travelling solo, I never missed my flights or trains.

so when I am at the train stations or airport and I see people running, I feel 0 sympathy for them. They most likely loiter at home and decide to leave their homes close to the time of their departures.

You sound nice. Most people I see running at train stations, including myself, are doing it because they are trying to make a connection and their first train arrived late.

Brothisbest · 28/08/2025 15:33

I suspect you are very bored and lonely this afternoon

That’s why I pick long layovers

Are you bored and looking for an online fight to fill the gapping void in your life? I have zero sympathy for people who can't find a productive ways to fill their time 😉

All alone, yes?

200skies · 28/08/2025 15:35

You sound like a barrel of laughs.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 28/08/2025 15:36

Ok, OP. Enjoy that.

ErlingHaalandsManBun · 28/08/2025 15:36

Well aren't you smug.

How the hell do you know why people are late for trains and flights? Sometimes despite the best planning and leaving hours and hours early, unexpected delays and circumstances can still happen. Yes, even having long layovers, you can still experience unwanted and unforseen delays.

Chemenger · 28/08/2025 15:37

Why expend the effort to come on here and write such an unpleasant message? Bored on a long layover?

Chewbecca · 28/08/2025 15:37

You obviously are not acquainted with the M25.

fruitbrewhaha · 28/08/2025 15:38

But you can’t always chose a long layover, the schedule is the schedule.

You sound like a bit of an arsehole OP. If I see someone very upset I feel sorry for them. They may well have messed up but I have empathy. Not everyone has unlimited amount of time to add in to every journey they make.

Thelondonone · 28/08/2025 15:38

You are not only mean but also stupid. I missed 2 connections that the train company specified. If I had booked 3 separate tickets the rail company had no duty of care to get me where I needed to be, as I had a valid ticket, they did.

slightlyunimpressed · 28/08/2025 15:38

Sometimes I run for the train. Sometimes I miss it. If I miss it, there is a whole 30 minutes to wait until the next one. It isn’t a big issue but I’d rather get home earlier if there is even a remote possibility of that.

I have constraints on my time because I work so it it depends when I finish for the day and how busy the tubes are. I don’t really care if you feel superior about that. It’s just a bit sad to do so.

NuffSaidSam · 28/08/2025 15:38

It must be hard work inside your head OP!

Here is a simple solution. Leave your house extra early instead of loitering.

God, when do they go back to school?

TeapotCollection · 28/08/2025 15:39

I’m really glad I don’t know you

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 28/08/2025 15:39

Have you considered volunteering? There is always litter to be picked up.

ManyShapesOfPasta · 28/08/2025 15:40

Maybe they are travelling with older relatives, just like you were when you missed your transport?

Brothisbest · 28/08/2025 15:40

This is a very lonely, bored Op. probably bored of daytime tr. and shuffling back and forth to the kitchen and sofa, and thought she’d inject some excitement in to her life.

It’s sad really when you think about it

SoScarletItWas · 28/08/2025 15:42

Aren’t you clever! So unlike me, when the last time I had a 7am flight I got there at 3.30am (the airport didn’t even open properly til 4am and the police had to let us in), they didn’t tell anybody where to queue til 5am and we barely made it to the gate.

Chuckle away to your clever, superior self, though.

PosiePetal · 28/08/2025 15:43

How do you know that they aren't rushing to be with a dying loved one or missing time with their children or something like that?

You have no idea whether it's their fault and down to their own bad planning. Traffic, cancellations etc. are out of anyone's control.

To laugh about seeing people cry is just weird.

SummerHouse · 28/08/2025 15:43

You travel solo you say,...............

I’d rather be too early then run not knowing wether or not I am gonna catch my flight or not.

I just assume that most people who miss trains / planes miss them because their connection came in late. To the extent I think of them at all.

And it’s not just a matter of leaving your house earlier. If you need the first train out to make a scheduled connection, get to the station in time but the train’s cancelled then how would leaving the house earlier help?

And your assumptions about older people are both untrue in my experience and ageist.
