I've noticed a lot more northern uk attitudes on here rather than southern & wondered what the demographic of mumsnet is..

I think the opposite and find a lot of people posting about things that apply to the SE or London.
I don't think there's such a change in attitude though.
I'm NW, Lancs/Greater Manc.

frankiesamson · 22/08/2018 13:54

SoyDora, if you need it explaining to you what the question "where are you from?" means then perhaps that's the bubble being referred to.

You’re making no sense. I was merely pointing out that it isn’t always so simple as saying ‘the north’ or ‘the south’. People move around. I spent some of my childhood in the north of England, some in the south of England and some abroad. I would be hard pressed to tell anyone ‘where I’m from’ as there is no definitive answer. Why does that equate to me living in a bubble?!

theboxofdelights · 22/08/2018 14:05

Odd thread OP. I am a northerner, moved to London after uni and spent three decades away. I have lived in three countries since I left home.

I came ‘home’ a couple of years ago and god it is good to be back. I have the choice of going into Leeds or Newcastle for a metropolis, York or Harrogate for something smaller, the dales and the moors on my doorstep and lots of green space all around me.

I walk my dog at Fountains Abbey every other day and live on the edge of an AONB.

‘‘Tis lovely to be home. I would love to know what my (or collectively ‘our’) attitude is but whatever it is the north makes me very happy.

SoyDora · 22/08/2018 14:11

Plus literally no one on this thread knows what a ‘northern attitude’ is and so far you haven’t seen fit to explain it.

Bombardier25966 · 22/08/2018 14:18

@frankiesalmon, can you define where the north - south boundary is please?

Gromance02 · 22/08/2018 14:23

I have no idea what the OP is on about. I am from the North and get a bit chippy when people insinuate that everyone in the North is poor and those that live in the South are better off. I wouldn't live in London unless I was very well off as IME most of it is a dump. And I mean 10's of millions well off.

SilentBob · 22/08/2018 15:07

Some of us are Northern, some of us are Southern, some of us are Eastern, some of us are Western.

And some of us are just from a different planet entirely OP

And that is why this post is in 'The Unexplained'

RosettaStoned · 22/08/2018 15:19

What I got on the quiz:

You Got: 77% Northern, 23% Southern!

There's no doubt about it, you're as northern as the Angel of the North drinking a pint of reasonably priced ale with Les Battersby. You're proud of where you're from, and rightly so – a land where talking to strangers isn't considered weird, where stunning landscapes are on your doorstep, and most importantly, where you can actually afford to buy a house!

I'm a northerner born and bred

RosettaStoned · 22/08/2018 15:23

Yes OP, what is a northern attitude? This thread sounds a bit troll-y in all honesty.

Slow news day is it?

RosettaStoned · 22/08/2018 15:25

Probably some random 'poll' for the DM trying to figure out what the 'demographic' of MN is and OP is trying to provoke people into answering her cryptic question. Then getting pissed off that "almost no one" is stating where they are from.

Jeez!

MrsJayy · 22/08/2018 15:29

I am not Northern English i wonder if op just meant English people ?

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 22/08/2018 15:31

Another northerner here. Born, raised, studied and have now worked for 20 years in the north. Husband similar. Love it!

RosettaStoned · 22/08/2018 15:36

@MrsJayy the OP mentions northern uk attitudes.

But I still have no idea what she means. I reckon this is a 'research' thread

MrsJayy · 22/08/2018 15:53

It is just odd no examples zilch of attitude just rambling Confused

theboxofdelights · 22/08/2018 16:06

‘Research’ implies systematic investigation.

The OP doesn’t seem to subscribe to that.

Seems a bit chippy to me.

Chestnut23 · 22/08/2018 17:33

Worst thread ever OP.

UrsulaPandress · 22/08/2018 17:45

Here's a northern attitude for you.

Fuck off you annoying twat OP.

HTH.

frankiesamson · 05/09/2018 01:06

Well as for the attitudes on here, if you're wondering you only need to take a look at the majority of replies on this thread to get an accurate idea.

OP posts:
GoatYoga · 05/09/2018 05:40

You aren’t making much sense op and seem unable to define what a northern attitude is.

I’m from the NW and I’m surrounded by people with a variety of different attitudes. Much like other places in England there are the very rich and the very poor, the employed and the unemployed, different political opinions etc - I suppose this all defines who we are and what our attitude is.

bellinisurge · 05/09/2018 06:31

@frankiesamson , do you see the phrase "northern attitude" as an insult? If so, that might be why you've had posters being rude to you. Having that idea is pretty ridiculous.

FlaviaAlbia · 05/09/2018 11:28

Did anyone see the BCAP definition of woman before it was altered a tiny bit due to the outcry?

In some northern working class contexts femininity is associated with strength and aggression

Sounds like the writer has some issues Shock much like frankiesamson Grin
