I've noticed a lot more northern uk attitudes on here rather than southern & wondered what the demographic of mumsnet is..

I’m really confused how op thinks No one has said they are from the north or south ConfusedHmm

Saidthesharktotheflyingfish · 21/08/2018 00:37

I was born in the Midlands, spent most of my life in East Anglia (is that south by your definition?) and am thinking about moving to Scotland. Which category would you like me to put myself in?

Cakemonger · 21/08/2018 01:37

Seeing as OP hasn't been back to explain what northern attitudes are, here are some attributes of mine that may count:

Dislike/mistrust of overly cheerful people on the TV
Feeling of treachery when catch self emitting a southern vowel
Never really forgiving anyone who wasn't friendly when you first met them, unless VERY good reason.
Inability to take self seriously
General irreverence and urge to take the piss

Un-northern things I do/have done:

Organic herbal tea
Lived in London for 3 years (treachery/misguided phase that had to come to an end)
Wearing a coat on nights out
Replaced Yorkshire Tea with Twinings (unforgivable)

KnobOfStork · 21/08/2018 01:55

I am from the North West. To my family in Newcastle I am Southern. To my friends from the South I am the most aggressively Northern stereotype to my family in Ireland I'm proper English because my dad is from Belfast

As far as I can tell Southern attitudes are eating food dry (has tha nowt moist???) and buying up all the houses here instead of renting a shed in someone's back garden Wink

Just running my whippet's flat cap through the mangle and hanging it out to dry on my Wonderwall before I kick my clogs off and get some kip.

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 21/08/2018 01:58

Snuggybuggy yes to mamsnet

TheSultanofPingu · 21/08/2018 07:23

I've said I think I'm northern op Smile

Dhalandchips · 21/08/2018 07:32

My twatty exh used to apogise to other people for my 'attitude' (mainly when I disagreed with him) by saying "I'm sorry, she's from the north". Weirdly, was born in Berkshire.

EmpressOfSpartacus · 21/08/2018 07:33

Seeing as OP hasn't been back to explain what northern attitudes are

Which may have been the reason for using the Unexplained board?

I was born in Leeds, grew up in Essex & spent most of my adult life so far in London, so Northerner by birth only.

Needsleepneedsleep · 21/08/2018 07:36

Eee by gum lass!

frankiesamson · 22/08/2018 00:57

Whatif "I’m really confused how op thinks No one has said they are from the north or south "

That's because the op said "almost no one", not "no one".

OP posts:
frankiesamson · 22/08/2018 01:00

So far, out of everyone who has mentioned where they're from (around 4 in 110 posts?), 75% of them appear to be from the north.

SoyDora · 22/08/2018 07:08

I said I’ve lived in Leeds, Surrey, Warwick, Paris, Valencia, Madrid, Milan, Bristol and Edinburgh and am now in the Midlands... it’s not always so simple as saying ‘I’m from the north’ or ‘I’m from the south’!

Redcrayons · 22/08/2018 07:11

I’m from the north OP.

frankiesamson · 22/08/2018 10:04

SoyDora, where you're from is usually where you were brought up, not where you live now.. sorry to burst your bubble.

OP posts:
SoyDora · 22/08/2018 10:07

What bubble?!
I was brought up in a selection of those places listed above. See why its difficult to say where you’re from?
DH lived in north wales until he was 6, Kent from 6-10, 10-13 in Wiltshire and 13-18 in Leamington spa. Where is he from?

ilovechurros · 22/08/2018 10:08

OP answer the question that keeps being posed.

What is a northern attitude?

RatherBeRiding · 22/08/2018 10:12

Born in the north, live in the north, have never lived anywhere else but the north, my children are northern, my parents were born & bred, lived and died in the north, my partner ditto.

I am northern.

RatherBeRiding · 22/08/2018 10:14

And would love to know what my attitude is! Grin

SoyDora · 22/08/2018 10:15

Are you assuming that everyone is brought up in the same place for their entire childhood and doesn’t move around?

leanne9312 · 22/08/2018 10:23

I an northern too Newcastle upon Tyne area :)

MrsJayy · 22/08/2018 10:28

Frankie not 1 person on this thread except you knows what you are talking about. Do you not like northern people do you find they are pulling down mumsnet or something? Because bugger me this is a right odd thread Grin

FlibbertyGiblets · 22/08/2018 10:41

Northerners are rubbing their hands at the prospect of Booths Chrismas Book coming soon.

Southerners are perplexed. We have Boots here too, what is all the fuss about.

BasicUsername · 22/08/2018 11:10

@FlibbertyGiblets Booths do the loveliest ones don't they! They have some great recipes in them.

EdisonLightBulb · 22/08/2018 11:18

It's because there is nothing to do but go on MN beyond the Watford Gap.

Life is grim oop north, we are all unemployed, there's a blizzard outside, it's too cold to walk the whippet and we can still post whilst warming the mushy peas in the microwave.

FlaviaAlbia · 22/08/2018 11:36

Maybe OP is from Australia and Northern attitudes include things like the S&B threads looking for the perfect warm coat every September onwards.
