You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

@noblegiraffe

I’ll suffer trauma if I have to, Jan, gin is rank.

But if she insists.

I agree, I really don't understand the gin craze.
ArnottsUnderpass · 09/05/2021 21:51

I drank gin at uni and everyone told me I was a granny.

I like to think I was just ahead of my time 😂

I genuinely may swing for my HoD. Breathe....

CallmeHendricks · 09/05/2021 21:51

I never used to, to be honest. It's an acquired taste, for sure.
My DM used to call it "mother's ruin" and tell us we'd end up like our next door neighbour, who used to drink it in the afternoons until she passed out.

MrsHamlet · 09/05/2021 21:51

You gin haters can just pass it AAAAALLLLL my way.

HarrietDVane · 09/05/2021 21:54

I've just turned the laptop off after yet another weekend of work - making completely pointless knowledge/skills matrices. I've nearly finished so no doubt some new paperwork horror will be bestowed upon me this week.

I have totally missed the rest of the political chat but am in awe of your marking workload, secondary colleagues! The stress and pressure this year especially must be awful.

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 09/05/2021 22:00

I've been acquiring a taste for olives since I was 6, I only started liking them two years ago. My parents obviously thought that age wasn't suitable for beginning gin appreciation... 😂 You lot can have the gin, I'll sit here like a teenager with my strawberry cider (or "grown up pop" as my uncle refers to it)

DreamingofBrie · 09/05/2021 22:02

Happy birthday MsAwesomeDragon Cake. Your puppy sounds adorable! Hope you've had a lovely day.

I feel as if I've been working most of the weekend and yet achieved very little (and still got lots to do). It really has been the week and a half from hell. My lovely HoD suggested I take a day off on Friday as she was so worried about me, and I know how precious (and rare!) it is to have a great set of colleagues around you. I'm involved as a parent so nothing to do with me as a teacher. Dh has been great and handled all communication with the school, but he is also not happy about their handling of the situation. We need to think about what to do moving forwards, but I'm not sure I can see a happy way out of it Sad.

I've been on MN for well over a decade now. Only really found The Staffroom during the pandemic. I usually lurk on FWR (have met some amazing MNers from there) and like to catch any political conversations. It's a good forum for catching up on stuff - there are so many posters who really know their stuff. Sometimes I leave nice comments for posters on Baby Names too Grin.

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 09/05/2021 22:03

Harriet we may have a massive marking spike this year, but I have always been amazed/impressed/horrified (delete as appropriate!) by the level of marking expected from you guys at primary. I raise my glass of pop to you all in a teenagerish toast

TheHoneyBadger · 09/05/2021 22:21

Through all of his picky phases and food issues (seemingly behind us now thankfully and I can't complain as I was the same as a child) ds has always loved olives.

MsAwesomeDragon · 09/05/2021 22:38

dreaming that sounds really stressful. I wish there was a way for us to help. How's your DC coping with it all? I'm happy to hear you've got supportive colleagues and your dh is stepping up to deal with communications with school. Am I right in thinking it's the same school you work at? That must make it very awkward that they aren't handling it in the way you'd hope.

noblegiraffe · 09/05/2021 22:40

Olives also ming.

MsAwesomeDragon · 09/05/2021 22:41

Hear hear!!! Olives are the food of the devil 😈
noblegiraffe · 09/05/2021 22:42

Sorry to hear things are still not resolved, Brie

StaffRepFeistyClub · 09/05/2021 22:43

I have just swigged a large G&T as all I seem to be doing is marking for the effing baskets. The more I mark the grumpier I am getting. And my marking of Year 12 homework has not been generous

You can certainly pass any unwanted olives my way!

Sorry to hear things are still tough at school, @DreamingofBrie - I'm glad your HoD is supportive.

winewolfhowls · 09/05/2021 22:58

Unlurking to say why can i not see a photo of adorable new puppy anywhere on this thread! Down with marking assessments, up with puppies!

DreamingofBrie · 09/05/2021 22:58

Thank you - yes, same school for me and dc. He has found the last week very difficult, we need to keep a close eye on him. He's had a nice weekend with friends and we've discussed various coping strategies. Just lots and lots of talking with each other at home.

I have a 5 lesson day tomorrow Hmm.

CallmeHendricks · 09/05/2021 23:01

Yes! Puppy cuddles!

DreamingofBrie · 09/05/2021 23:02

Regarding olives (yum). Waitrose do a very nice tin of olives stuffed with anchovy fillet Grin. I know I'll never have to share them.

I have fallen into the bad habit of buying a bottle of gin whenever I'm feeling down. Don't drink a lot so it does last ages, but we now seem to have about 9 bottles of gin in the house.

noblegiraffe · 09/05/2021 23:05

I can't do puppies but I can do a noble giraffe.

TINNED OLIVES???? Shock
Even from St Waitrose itself, that can't be right.
Fresh from the deli is the only way. And not the black ones either.
And NEVER on pizza.

noblegiraffe · 09/05/2021 23:06

olives stuffed with anchovy fillet

Wash it down with gin and you possibly have the most revolting combo ever created.

Behold Grin...

I feel as if perhaps I should not have shared that information!
