You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

I have 2 year 11 classes, so 54 students.
They did one assessment the week before last, one this week gone, will do one next week and one the week after.
I've also got a y13 class who do an assessment the week after next.
And some absolute knobber put year 10 assessments in the week before last too.

Luckily I only teach y12 apart from that or I would be dead of marking.

MsAwesomeDragon · 09/05/2021 20:11

That really does add up to a LOT of marking MrsH. I've got a similar allocation of classes this year and spent most of last weekend marking tbh, and writing reports (who the duck puts reports in this half term of madness?). This weekend has been a little break in the workload, as I managed a full day off today. Then year 13 do their first assessment tomorrow, year 11 (2 classes) do 2 tests on Wednesday and Thursday. I will not be marking for any other classes until half term. They will just have to wait.

We only do proper reports for 11-13 so I just need to write a sentence for my 10s, thankfully. But they're due before half term too.
I have a marking spreadsheet. I've got 116 out of the 220 papers I started with left to mark. But at this exact moment, I am totally up to date 😂

Beachhuts90 · 09/05/2021 20:21

I just don't know anyone British who is anti Semitic tbh. I know people who are anti Israeli, but again v few people who are interested in the Middle East. Not sure how interested most people are in foreign policy, full stop. Casual slurs of America / Americans is the most common thing I hear.
Slight detour back to this but yes yes. And as an American, people feel very comfortable saying anti American things to my face. Is it because I'm white? I've had an incident of this in school too but I won't go into details because it's outing and only happened once.

Agreed MN is boring lately. The trainee threads are the most interesting thing on here to me 😂 I think the best parts of MN were threads about cheeky ILs and obviously covid has put a stop to that. (Before anyone thinks I'm uncharitable towards innocent ILs, I enjoy making liberal use of the YABU button...)

Glad you're feeling better hobnob.

I teach at a school that only has years 9 - 13 , soooo.... year 10 and 12 exams mid June (5 groups for me!). An at present = 4x assessments for one year 11 class ; 2 X assessments for one GCSE year 11 option class ; 4 x assessments for year 13. NEAs to mark/moderate for year 11 and 13. Year 12 assessments for CAGs for 6 AS entrants.

Wail.

Ah, I've still got 265/265 papers to mark as they haven't done any yet. So far this term I've marked 2 tests X 2 classes of year 10 exams and a year 12 test, as well as writing 2 sets of reports needing 100 words for each pupil. Feel free to remind me about weekend downtime next week when I'm marking 20 year 13 stats papers and 90 year 11 tests. I don't think there will be much downtime then.

Omg piggy. That's so much!! You win. GinFlowers

MrsHamlet · 09/05/2021 20:53

The thing is that when you write it down, it's ludicrous. But it's got to be done so it gets done.
We should be venerated!!!

MrsHamlet · 09/05/2021 20:54

Y12 exams are the penultimate week of term. 3 groups. Wah!!!

cornercupboard · 09/05/2021 20:55

I don't venture onto actual MN any more, only come on here. I gave up actual MN for Lent and haven't gone back. Too many keyboard crazies.

I had lots of discussion with my Tory sister about Labour anti-Semitism because I couldn't see how it could be A Thing, what with my possibly rose-tinted view of socialism with a small s being a good thing and therefore socialists (ie Labour people) being actually nice and kind to one another. But sister assures me that Corbyn really is a racist, and poo-poohed my suggestion that it was actually anti-Zion, political stuff to do with the state of Israel, and not actual "Jews are corrupt" type stuff. I watched the BBC prog and was not convinced, but perhaps my sis is right to say I am naive.

PS Rule I'm with you on Brexit.

PPS I thought mindfulness was about colouring-in and forest bathing? Racist? Eh?

Saw something about schools trying to claim money back from exam
boards earlier - Guardian or TES headline maybe?

Two deleted posts on this thread 👀

(Not counting the one where Jan drunkenly swore her way through Wurzels’ songs that she asked be deleted)

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 09/05/2021 21:35

Now I've heard piggy's marking workload, I feel like a wuss for getting in a flap about mine! I have to admit that I've never been so glad to be working in an 11-16 school...

JanFebAnyMonth · 09/05/2021 21:36

She may suffer trauma if you don’t use her ‘beverage name’, noble

JanFebAnyMonth · 09/05/2021 21:37

noblegiraffe · 09/05/2021 21:44

I’ll suffer trauma if I have to, Jan, gin is rank.

But if she insists.

ArnottsUnderpass · 09/05/2021 21:44

So help me god, I swear I going to lose my mind this term.

Aaaaaarrrghhhh

MrsHamlet · 09/05/2021 21:46

You'll be in good company though Arnott

CallmeHendricks · 09/05/2021 21:49

I'm trying to stay under the radar these days. Was getting the distinct feeling there was a large target on my forehead.
