I'll pop a link in the old one so you know where to find safe haven. I have tried to clear out some space by getting rid of the ohp and vcr trolley and gin is hidden behind the sick sand bucket.

Oh yes, suggesting they email their teacher is like suggesting they turn up on her doorstep with a bunch of flowers, isn't it Honey?!

JanuaryChill · 02/02/2021 11:11

Scientists' latest thoughts on the new variants and how they may interact (posted recently on Data thread) are pretty concerning.

They emphasise the need for adherence to current control measures. I hope Gav and Boris (unsure about who actually holds power re education atm) heed this.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 02/02/2021 12:06

there's a thought that Surrey schools won't be able to return as early as 8 March (if anyone does) because of the SA variant which may be in circulation there

Pointless - it's everywhere by now right?

My kids have worked out how to make polls on Teams, so today's is 'would you drop a kitten or your phone?'

FFS. I spend my whole time clearing shit out, then they find a new 'skill' that I haven't banned yet and tadaaaa.. it's all over it.

JanuaryChill · 02/02/2021 12:17

Oh dear @RuleWithAWoodenFoot !

Yes I fear you're right about the worrying variant being everywhere by now probably.

China would have put whole region (more ppl than UK pop) in an armed lockdown 2 weeks ago. This morning our universities minister urges people in the affected areas to "think twice" before going out........

Mistressiggi · 02/02/2021 12:21

He doesn't bloody ask the teacher when she's live and won't email her
Honey I email my dc's teachers from his account at times. I do my best to write like a teenage boy Blush Just simple things like saying there's a problem uploading the work.

JanuaryChill · 02/02/2021 12:28

I need to namechange, shall I go for a pan-seasonal moniker or revert to my original username .... hmmmm!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/02/2021 12:29

Lovely call back from dds physics teacher and advice re what to ignore and what to focus on and it will really help her stop panicking at least about that subject.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 02/02/2021 12:42

what to ignore and what to focus on

I'm having to do that loads, even with year 3 and 4 aged kids. 40% of our parents said they don't have time to do the work. I had a proper counselling session with a parent on Thursday. We've ended up saying:

Maths - watch the video or come to the lesson - spend 20 mins on the work. Focus on first 4 questions and getting them right/understanding them. Come to the lesson if you keep getting stuck.

Writing - watch the whole class feedback video from last time if there is one, check your own work. Then watch today's video or come to the lesson - spend 30 minutes on the follow up task.

Reading - watch the video, spend 20 minutes on the task.

If you do anything else, good job!

I have full on conversations with parents where we both know we're both pretending they are the child in question. There is no way my nurture groups can possibly write the emails that are supposedly from them. Some send me their own emails "hello miss are you ok? Here is my work". Others send "Dear Ms Awesome, the work today was quite difficult so I struggled a bit too find the area of triangles. My dad helped me and then he marked it once I finished". There's no way any of them would write that many sentences with correct spelling, grammar and punctuation! But I politely address the child in my reply 🤣
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 02/02/2021 13:34

Yep - I reply to parent emails to the parent, and then write:

Child name:

I liked blah blah
Work on blah blah

Mistressiggi · 02/02/2021 14:36

See MsAwesome I would absolutely write the first email when I am pretending to be ds Smile complete with spelling mistakes.

JanuaryChill · 02/02/2021 15:32

I see Scottish Infants are back in after half term....or that's what Nicola said today.

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/02/2021 16:20

Don’t forget we’re back in the main staff room now...

HarrietDVane · 02/02/2021 19:58

Found you! Tentatively wondering if there's any cake left....?

I'm exhausted and it's still only Tuesday. How can it only be Tuesday? I've got a couple more "KW" children in my class thanks to my HT's blanket approval of all requests. I did a straw poll of today's attenders: all but one had a parent at home today. It's just ridiculous.

Hope you're all ok. I'm sorry to hear you're faced with funeral problems, January.

Piggywaspushed · 02/02/2021 21:31

harriet we are all over in a New Republic...see you there!

HarrietDVane · 02/02/2021 22:16

Thanks Piggy! I've muddled my way over there now Grin

JanFebAnyMonth · 07/02/2021 18:01

Urn on.

CallmeAngelina · 07/02/2021 18:03

Urn? It's gin I need, after the effing Daily Fail are getting me all riled up about nicking half our summer holiday. Angry

MrsHamlet · 07/02/2021 18:04

Here you go, Ange
I always have gin....

CallmeAngelina · 07/02/2021 18:06

Ooh, is it Hendricks? That's my current fave, with Fever Tree slimline and chunks of cucumber.

ChloeDecker · 07/02/2021 18:24

I managed to get one of those M and S light up gins and that is very easy on the palette I must say!

Mistressiggi · 07/02/2021 18:24

I would never have thought of cucumber!

MrsHamlet · 07/02/2021 18:25

🤮 cucumber
