You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@Cracklefraggle

Argh! I need tech support. Recording lessons on teams but they are not saving properly!! Don't show up in stream or anywhere in my onedrive. There in chat as a black box that needs to be downloaded but takes hours Angry
I've had the same. I can't get them to save on stream but can to the wall of Teams if I add the class name in channel when setting up the meeting it will save to the 'wall'... nowhere to be seen on stream though!
noblegiraffe · 12/01/2021 14:16

When Gove ditched ICT he said that kids knew how to use Word and stuff and just could pick it up in their other lessons.

Narrator: They did not pick it up in their other lessons.

RandomGrammarPun · 12/01/2021 14:19

We don't have any computers in any lessons/classrooms apart from ICT!!! They do everything in books. I don't think that's unusual?

We did but the keys from the keyboard were pinched and thrown around the room.
DreamingofBrie · 12/01/2021 14:21

Flowers @RigaBalsam, I'm glad you've been signed off. Please do take the time to recover.

Also Wine to @ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas, I feel your pain. Just finished with primary dc for the day, all work uploaded but I'm dreading the art task, which is due later this week. He's doing ok, but it's still time consuming. A couple of things which have helped:

  • I've set up a Dropbox file for him and it's pinned to the file explorer. I upload all of his work files to Dropbox (I've for subfolders for weeks) as soon as they come in and he saves his work to there too
  • It's worth spending the money on the inking pad for him. Saves so much faffing around printing worksheets then photographing them again
  • I make his dad do as many tasks with him as they can over the weekend Grin.

I'm off today, looking at my Y7 and Y8 workbooks and trying to avoid marking an A-level paper. Got out with the dc at lunch, it's a gorgeous day here, although it tipped it down overnight so lots and lots of puddles!

RandomGrammarPun · 12/01/2021 14:28

That a great workaround, Brie.

It concerns me that our parents are so IT illiterate as well as so busy to be able to help dc like you've done!

RandomGrammarPun · 12/01/2021 14:28

Riga - not surprising! Grin

It's all going to be fine (not):

At least he seems to have dropped the 'send em all into school if they don't have a laptop' line.

noblegiraffe · 12/01/2021 14:46

I saw that the company providing the laptops is another Tory donor mate.

We have one bookable set of laptops for the whole school, and can book IT rooms, but yes, in general, all work is done in books, and computers are only really used in IT.
Cracklefraggle · 12/01/2021 15:24

Thanks Monkey that seems to be what is happening but the files take ages to download. Good broadband stream too. Kids can't download them at all. On Mrs H's guide it looks soooo different Confused

By my calculations 100 000 last week and 300,000 more is only 400,000 and less than Boris said schools had/would have at the press briefing on Thurs!

Re tech: lots of our children are unable to be resilient with it and have a go by trying lots of different things. Instead they either refuse to do it or rely on the one child who is a bit more tech savvy. We teach them publisher and word but they dont tend to retain it as they dont use it at home as much however I bet they are better than me at Tik Tok etc.

Yep-they’re still shit!

Secondary bods who have started testing -the different lateral flow tests and their ‘accuracy’ are listed at the bottom of this article-which one have you been given in schools?

MrsHamlet · 12/01/2021 15:44

@noblegiraffe

I have beach body on demand

I read that as 'I have a beach body on demand' which would be really useful.

That's what I thought too😂
MrsHamlet · 12/01/2021 15:48

@Cracklefraggle have a look in the files section in the team - mine have suddenly started appearing in there as recordings.

MrsHamlet · 12/01/2021 15:50

The bastards have "upgraded" teams since I wrote the bastarding guide!
Rest assured, Bill Gates in my shoulder has been told off.

Piggywaspushed · 12/01/2021 15:51

Is there away on Teams to see if kids are dong their work? I use GC so asking for a friend! Really am!

MrsHamlet · 12/01/2021 15:53

If they submit it, it shows nicely as submitted. If you go into the assignment list you can see who has viewed. If you activate the insights tab in a team you get all kinds of scary information
Piggywaspushed · 12/01/2021 15:56

We also have no computers. And I teach a subject where that is specified as minimum kit!!

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 12/01/2021 15:57

A friend just sent me a screenshot of her DD mums group. She said it has been hilarious about them getting onto seesaw - half them understand that they have a fresh link each day but the others do the 'I had no idea comment'. What is really funny is that the ones struggling with a seesaw link are those who are shit hot on setting their kids up on Fortnite!

Piggywaspushed · 12/01/2021 15:58

My friend wants to be able to see if they are working as she knows they aren't! They don't submit work.

On classroom you can see their work progressing 'live' and comment etc? It's a Godsend for live marking.

Get me.

EvilEdnasEnemiesOfEducation · 12/01/2021 15:59

Piggy, if it's set as an assignment that auto marks it will appear in grades once you've posted the scores in forms. If it's an assignment they have to upload something for they have to attach the file and press hand in.

To paraphrase Noble :

Narrator : none of them can figure it out so they all just fill your email box with complaints and occasionally work attached

Piggywaspushed · 12/01/2021 15:59

OK, turns out she isn't doing live lessons!

Piggywaspushed · 12/01/2021 16:01

Am actually quite glad we have GC now even if Google slides are a pile of shite

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 12/01/2021 16:02

Oh and our head was talking about online learning going beyond Feb half term .....
