You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Glad you are off @RigaBalsam Thanks

Paranoia is part of it. I get that completely, but going for walks or more and getting your body as well as mind better is important.

I remember my first cbt was reading a chapter of a book that showed how the two link together.

Cbt is good but sometimes it's the actual job that's the issue.

RigaBalsam · 12/01/2021 13:22

Thanks January. Yes I think I would be judged more for being with someone in covid times.

I am usually happy to live in the local area. This isn't one of them times. Guess I could put a hat on and hope nobody recognises me people probably think I am working at home anyway and will keep well away from the school.

Thanks TW absolutely!

@RigaBalsam

Thanks all.

The doctor recommended exercise but it makes me paranoid going for a run or walk when I off incase someone judgy sees me. I mean am not there yet but maybe next week. Surely this is ok though?

Hmm I am paranoid all round.

I'm exercising indoors (wii fit and also treadmill) for the next couple of weeks as rates where I live are 1000+.
RigaBalsam · 12/01/2021 13:28

Good point monkey. I do hate passing people.

noblegiraffe · 12/01/2021 13:29

Ange has got a Rosemary Conley tape she can lend you, Riga, if you don't want to exercise outside. Grin

Obviously I will recommend the sainted Joe.

But being outside in the fresh air is also important. We're all allowed a Boris walk.

CallmeAngelina · 12/01/2021 13:35

Oy, I'm still here, you know!!! I can see when you're talking about me!
(although I'm SO busy with this remote learning malarkey that poor Rosemary has been shut away in a drawer).

TrashedWarrior · 12/01/2021 13:38

Wear a mask and a hoody and know one will know! (Might think you're a burglar though!)

RigaBalsam · 12/01/2021 13:39

Embarrassing confession but when I had dd 13 years ago. I joined an RC class. Blush.
It was strange exercising after a meeting.

I have beach body on demand but don't have much space. If I do it downstairs my Mum will think she can watch. ( she's funny like that) 🙈

noblegiraffe · 12/01/2021 13:40

Sorry Ange Grin

I heard on R4 today at about 1:10pm a guy from the ONS discussing death data and that they could see there were riskier occupations which were mainly public facing roles including healthcare workers, taxi drivers and security guards.

Is he talking about the data from May??! Or has more up to date data been released?

Hancock said in the commons today that when he decided on the order of Phase 2 of the vaccine rollout he would look at professions for risk then depending on the data he would produce an order . Wonder if it will be released then that Teachers were at a high risk but it will be ok as we may have a vaccine. I am just being cynical.

That is so true!

TrashedWarrior · 12/01/2021 13:48

The clip I heard mentioned teachers being considered but I don't know who said that. Not the presenter.

Piggywaspushed · 12/01/2021 13:51

That will be the May data . It always is...

noblegiraffe · 12/01/2021 13:51

I have beach body on demand

I read that as 'I have a beach body on demand' which would be really useful.

RigaBalsam · 12/01/2021 13:53

Noble very useful. I really don't have a beach body.

CallmeAngelina · 12/01/2021 13:58

"I really don't have a beach body."

Or at least, not a beach you'd wish to visit.

I just thought it was a stealth boast Grin "gimme a week of Joe and I'm rocking a beach body", kind of thing Grin

Re: technology and kids, they might spend most of their waking hours on devices, but ask them to open a Word document, type something coherent, save it, named, in a specific folder and they're completely stumped.
That's the main issue we're having currently with setting stuff on Google Classroom; they just don't now what they're doing and at this stage (early days, I know) they're needing more adult input.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/01/2021 14:04

So just worked all day on my day off again. I actually don't mind because it's supporting the kids and live marking (shared groups and if I'm the lead teacher I'm responsible for them even when their lessons fall on my day off - I could go, not my problem!, but I don't want to) and responding to issues coming from parents via school etc.

I do, and I want to whisper this very quietly, find myself feeling a little more sympathetic to some parents because I'm realising I'm doing more work than my full time colleagues most days and they are doing the absolute bare minimum despite being full time and being paid in full.

I'm marking kids work only to be told by HOD we don't have to mark it, we only need to do checkpoint marking which could just be a comment every two weeks! Hmm yeah but why would we only do that? If they can be arsed to do the work at home then I can be arsed to skim over it as it comes in and give them an effort grade out of 5 a suggestion for improvement and remark it and change grade when it comes in. It really doesn't take long and most of my colleagues are saving loads of time on commuting time, duties, being in lessons all day etc AND in some cases have really light timetables despite being paid full time.

Still no heating or hot water despite the guy coming out - he thought he'd fixed it, left and then it immediately turned off again so he is back now trying to sort it. I really, really need to wash my hair!

Riga hope you feel better for stepping back. The trick now is to switch off worrying about school and work and actually use the time to take care of yourself. Really focus on doing that - might be a good idea to avoid mn for a while. pm if you fancy a 1:1 chat x

RigaBalsam · 12/01/2021 14:07

Thanks honey. I am definitely staying off the main boards for a while. You are all lovely though.

Thank you all.

SansaSnark · 12/01/2021 14:09

Has anyone had a trainee observe them on a live lesson?

I've asked if I would be happy for this in a KS3 lesson. I'm NQT + 1, so haven't really been observed by a trainee before, but I am probably more confident with live lessons than some colleagues.

In theory, I'm more than happy to be observed, but I'm not sure if I'm then expected to discuss the lessons with her etc, and it feels like additional pressure.

Cracklefraggle · 12/01/2021 14:10

Argh! I need tech support. Recording lessons on teams but they are not saving properly!! Don't show up in stream or anywhere in my onedrive. There in chat as a black box that needs to be downloaded but takes hours Angry

Completely true for our cohort.

We need an overhaul of what we think we know they can do. As if they're born knowing how to use technology. Makes me lol so much on the main boards when some parents slag off others (me) for being strict on gadgets until a later age ("they won't know how to use them, they'll be left behind..." Erm, they know how to do sod all regardless.)
