You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@MrsDanvers123

Should be 'well jelous if your sex voice'!
Apologies - I am on an old and fading tablet that doesn't always do what I ask Wink
MrsHamlet · 10/01/2021 20:19

I hate the sound of my voice recorded.
It was a million times worse though when - post stroke - I couldn't project so I had a Britney Spears style headset mike. I sounded and looked ridiculous. The kids were ace though :)

MrsDanvers123 · 10/01/2021 20:26

You must have only been young to have a stroke. I'm reading how lots of you have had real shit in your lives but you all keep going; although, this gvt is certainly pushing us to our limits...

MrsHamlet · 10/01/2021 20:33
  1. No one ever got to the bottom of why but I was really lucky that it only affected my speech. I think that was when I realised that the only person who'll look after me is me, so HT trying to guilt me into going in for no good reason is fairly easy to ignore. It's also why I try to look out for other people. In the months I was off, I was pretty much ditched... except for then HT trying to suggest I was pulling a fast one. He really was king of the twats.
JanuaryChill · 10/01/2021 20:46

Wow MrsH! No problems since?

MrsDanvers123 · 10/01/2021 20:46

29! You were only a babe in arms! It's shocking how people can be so uncaring and I agree that traumatic events help you to put life in general into perspective. Must be why you bunch of witches are so unsupportive and determined to scupper the life chances of all and sundry Wink

HarrietDVane · 10/01/2021 20:46

Wow, @MrsHamlet - what an experience to go through. Your then HT sounds a real charmer.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 10/01/2021 20:47

At 25 i had a random life threatening blood clot situation too.

MrsHamlet · 10/01/2021 20:50

No problems since. When I get a cold I lose my voice because my vocal cord is a bit floppy, but that's it.
That head was a vile human being who attempted to destroy a lot of teachers' lives. He went on to run a MAT and do the same. It still baffles me that people who come in to teaching, which is really about people, and show such contempt for people.
It's really not difficult to be kind, is it?
Incidentally, apart from my NQT staffroom which was lovely, this is the best one I've been in. We all seem to like each other and teaching and kids except Kevin but he's an arse and it's kind.

MrsHamlet · 10/01/2021 20:51

Rule - that's really young!!!!

Floobydo · 10/01/2021 21:17

Do I win a prize for the first case tracked back to Monday’s ‘schools are safe everybody in’ fiasco?? Not me but a colleague, from a child in on Monday who then tested positive.

So that’s a whole key worker bubble now completely stuffed.

WhenSheWasBad · 10/01/2021 21:23

On no flooby

There’s going to be so many popped bubbles over the next two weeks / months.

Hope your colleague is ok.

JanuaryChill · 10/01/2021 21:46

@Floobydo (love the name) here we are

Star
JanuaryChill · 10/01/2021 21:47

Obviously hope everyone's OK there

MrsHerculePoirot · 10/01/2021 21:54

Thanks all turtle doves ordered for my mum!

MrsHamlet · 10/01/2021 21:59

Floobydo you win. I think there's some Blutac in a cupboard you can claim as your prize.
That's really shit and so avoidable.

Cracklefraggle · 10/01/2021 22:01

Sophie Ridge is now my favourite person!

Sophie Ridge to Matt Hancock on Sky:
So Gav has told parents to contact Osted if they have concerns about their child's school. Who can parents contact if they have concerns about Gavin Williamson?
😂😂😂

Here is the act disapplying the normal school attendance rules:

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachmentdata/file/950219/EducationnAct19966-schoollattendanceoffenceedisapplicationnoticeeJanuary2021.pdf

NB the end of para 2a) states that the purpose is to reduce pupil:pupil, pupil:staff and pupil:community contacts. No mention of staff:staff!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 10/01/2021 22:44

Ye gads - just logged on to the 'send work here' email address. Parent meltdowns a go-go. Bless, this is all so shit and doubly shit if you don't speak English so feel you can't support your child.

Lots of KW bubbles closed in my LA.

Piggywaspushed · 10/01/2021 22:46

Presumably because they know it is bollocks that we spread it to each other over 'coffee in the staffroom' January!?

Monkeytennis97 · 10/01/2021 22:50

@JanuaryChill why is it only until 6th Feb?

DreamingofBrie · 10/01/2021 23:09

@MrsHerculePoirot

Who can recommend me their thermal socks? Also something for hands but not full gloves? I know you’ve talked about but want to get some for my mum.

@RigaBalsam deffo take time if you need it.

Catching up on the thread, but @MrsHerculePoirot, I think the wrist warmers from this shop are gorgeous:

www.fromthesource.co.uk/collections/knitted-woollen-wrist-warmers

I bought some big woolly slipper socks for dd for Christmas, but they've sold out on the site, sadly.

JanuaryChill · 10/01/2021 23:12

Because that's the end of the half term (06/02). Don't know if we should be worried that it hasn't got a clause in to possibly extend it, as I'd rather assumed we wouldn't go back that early?

DreamingofBrie · 10/01/2021 23:36

Caught up on the thread. I'm so sorry Riga and those of you who are struggling with mental health, poor working conditions and unsympathetic SLT. Just wanted to say thanks because reading all of your posts tends to ground me - my own school has been pretty good this lockdown; we can work from home if we prefer and they have climbed down a little on some of the crazy workload expectations they gave us last week. PE staff are taking on most of the KWV supervision roles, so I haven't been asked to go in. Will probably go in 2 mornings a fortnight though, as 4 of us on Teams is knocking my broadband out a bit.
